Yes, you can access 1099s send by your clients without subscribing to QuickBooks Self-Employed, @vicki6.

Since your client invited you, you'll receive a link in your email. You need to click the link so you'll be routed to the QB Self-Employed page (free version). You can use this free account in accessing your info and viewing your 1099s at tax time.

You can also go to the Documents section to view and print your 1099.

If you have further questions or concerns, feel free to reach back out anytime.

I click the "View your 1099" link and go to a screen that asks me to log in with my Intuit password. When I do that I get a billing info screen asking me to choose between a paid subscription to QB Self Employed either with or without TurboTax. I am not routed to a free version.

As I mentioned in my first post, I already subscribe to QB Small Business as a sole proprietor/freelance contractor, so I do receive 1099s. Intuit just isn't giving me that free access screen for some reason.

Hi Vicki,

Instead of clicking on the link, you can log in to your QuickBooks Self-Employed account through this link:https://selfemployed.intuit.com/login. Then, click the Documents section on the left-hand side of the Dashboard to see your 1099 form. This section will only appear when your client has submitted your 1099 forms to IRS.

Please give it a try, then let us know if you still can't see your form.

I'm not the original poster but I have the same issue, and using the link from your last post here still takes me to a subscription-choosing page with no access to tax documents. How should I proceed?

I’m here to help so you can view the 1099 form sent by your client, @juki.

Do you have an existing QBSE account or did you initiate a free trial when you accepted the invitation sent by your client? This may be the reason you're being routed to the Choose your subscription page. To resolve the issue, below are the options you can perform.

When you accept the invitation link for viewing 1099 info this will allow you to have a free trial of the QBSE account. However, if you exceed one month and still can't access the form, you can contact your client and ask for a printed PDF file of the 1099 form.

Also, if possible, ask your client to resend the invitation using a different email. Then, make sure to click the link within the email as it will allow you to access a free QBSE account. See screenshot for reference:  freeqbseaccount.JPG

Then, here's how you can view your 1099 info:

  1. Click the link from the email.
  2. Navigate to the Clients menu.
  3. Hit the Forms tab.

For your reference, please see this article: Fill out a W-9 and view your 1099-MISC in QuickBooks Self-Employed.
