Can we file a corrected 1099 via QBO?

Hello,

No.  At this time, QBO only allows you to file your 1099 once.  If an amended 1099 needs to be filed, you need to get the form from the IRS website and fill it out and sent it in to the IRS directly.

This seems like a significant shortcoming of the software. Is there a plan to incorporate?

This is a terrible oversight. Does anyone know if this has been fixed for the 2019 1099's for the "on-line" version?

Can we file a corrected 1099 via QBO?

Hello there, kl9.

Thanks for following up on this thread. I'd like to provide some additional info about your 1099 question.

The 1099 E-File Service with QuickBooks Online doesn't allow for corrections to a 1099 form after it has been e-filed. However, any updates or corrections can be made in a printed copy and sent in by mail to the IRS.

This link provides even more details about preparing and filing Federal 1099s using QuickBooks Online, and what to do if you need to make a correction.

I'm only a comment or post away if you have any other questions.

Does anyone know if this has been fixed, can we file corrected 1099-NEC with QBO?  Wrong amounts were created in QBO. Thanks

Can we file a corrected 1099 via QBO?

Hello @MiraS,

As of the moment, there isn't an integrated way of filing your 1099-NEC form after corrections within QuickBooks Online. With this, let's consider downloading a blank copy of your 1099-NEC form and manually enter the corrections of the amounts you need to report.

Once you've created the form, I recommend contacting the IRS and let them know you need to file a new 1099-NEC form with corrections to avoid penalties.

On top of that, I've got you this helpful article for guidance in preparation for the 2020 tax season: QuickBooks Online Payroll Year-end Checklist.

Can we file a corrected 1099 via QBO?

Hello, adamtheartisandesigngroup.

As of this moment, once you e-filed the form using 1099 E-File Service, you can no longer make corrections. What you can do is make corrections in a printed copy and manually sending it by mail to the IRS.

Here's how to file the amended form:

  1. Order 1099-NEC IRS forms online at IRS Online Ordering for Information Returns and Employer Returns.
  2. Fill out the 1099-NEC form and be sure to select the Corrected checkbox.
  3. Once done, mail the form to the IRS.
  4. After that, mail the recipient copy to your contractor as soon as possible so that they can file their taxes.

You can visit this link for more details about this process: How to correct or change 1099s in QuickBooks

In case you need help with printing your 1099s, here's an article for your reference: Create and file 1099s using QuickBooks Online. On the same link, you'll find the steps on how to E-file your forms as well as a guide on how to check the filing status.
