Does anyone else think QuickBooks is terrible?

There are SO MANY quirks and issues.  Like reports not updating when you make a change to an item unless you refresh the page or exit and come back in.  Also, I randomly get booted out of the report I was in and back to the main page for no apparent reason.  Then recently, I keep getting this error where it says something like "this report can't be accessed now" or something to that affect (also displays some graph in the background).  It is slow. It is clunky.  It is bloated.  I almost feel like it is a push to force you into the $1900 desktop version but who knows, that may be just as bad.  In fact, the idea that it may be as bad as the online version is one reason I haven't purchased it.  Then throw in the fact that I can't pull my Quickbooks online data into my Turbo Tax for Business software.  You can if you have the $1900 desktop version!  SMH.  I see no advantage to using Quickbooks, at this time, and I am actively seeking an alternative.

Then throw in the fact that I can't pull my Quickbooks online data into my Turbo Tax for Business software. You can if you have the $1900 desktop version! SMH.

You don't have to purchase the license. You can use the trial version of QB Desktop to convert data from QBO and export it to TurboTax for free.

I see no advantage to using Quickbooks, at this time, and I am actively seeking an alternative.

Contact me in private for details. We can recommend 3 cloud based accounting apps to compare. You can convert data to QB Desktop file and use the trial version to access your historical data for good. Then you will start from scratch in the new app to lower your conversion costs.

You charged my credit card for two services that do not work.  I want a refund and cannot seem to get it.  Do I need to take my issues to small claims court?

Yes. Horrible. I want to switch to another accounting software.

1. QBO search feature hardly works. They should call it "searchless".

2. I'm tired of developers redesigning the interface and making us re-learn where they have hidden various features that are used regularly. It's time consuming and costly.

3. The insulting and childish cartoon characters that pop up are getting exhausting.

4. The large useless and immovable top banner menu that creates a very small working screen on a laptop is frustrating.

Horrible and slow garbage that they are forcing down small business owners throats.

I would recommend staying with Desktop or finding another supplier of software.  It has become apparent the QBO is poorly planned out in how it works.  You will find the transition painful, and will invest time into trying to figure out how to work around QBO's issues.  QBO support will explain to you how important your issue is to them and nothing will move any closer to a resolution.  When you start using the software it will become apparent that there are silos of employees that stay within their own area and don't speak with other teams that are designing a different portion of the software.  After they put each of these teams work together it turns into something that does not flow well together and creates headaches for the end user.

Today's latest issue for me was finding out that they do not allow you to modify the template for a PO.  They will allow you to add a custom field, however you cannot modify the template.  Yesterday, was finding out that the footer field in the Estimate and Invoice template is limited to 400 characters.  Room is needed for terms of payment and there is not enough here.  This issue shows complaints dating back over 10 years with no resolution.  But don't take this in a bad way.  We are being told that they are diligently working towards a resolution and they care deeply about the product and their customers.

If you need to import customers or vendors from QB Desktop over to QBO you are allowed to import 15 fields of data.  However, if you manually enter the data you have 30 potential fields of data, leaving you with blank fields that you will have to manually enter for each customer or vendor.  They are diligently working that issues as well, or you can go to a third party app that has fixed QB's issue and enter data that way.  They conveniently list the third party apps right there in the software.  It has become apparent that QBO is a marketing company and not an accounting software company.  QuickBooks is great at selling a subpar product, just not good at making good software.  I do have to applaud them, on making money.  I am sure it pays really well to sell a product and not have to maintain it.  Just make it so other 3rd parties can fix their shortcomings.  Don't know for sure but I bet you can make a nice profit charging those third party apps that create work arounds to be on your software.

If they would spend more time fixing their issues instead of sending me emails about how I have become a higher rank in the QB online support community it might be a reasonable product.  I hope this helps you with your decision.  I wish I knew how painful this was going to be before investing as much time in this as I have.  For months I was trying to remain positive about this transition, it has become apparent that they do not fix their issues and are not interested in being one of the top accounting softwares.

Such a complete and beautifully stated summary of the QBO experience, you really should mail this as a letter to intuit CEO Sasan Goodarzi:

Sasan Goodarzi
Chief Executive Officer

Intuit

New York, NY 10003

You may also wish to include the countless pop-ups that users must close, only to have them return after performing a single task in the software. It appears they simply cannot be closed at all.

Add, too, that users can import invoices from a worksheet, but the customer's payment settings will not be applied. Users must manually edit every imported invoice to re-enable the proper payment settings.

And don't forget the enjoyable Bank Transactions portal where QBO can't help but repeatedly make matching suggestions that are entirely incorrect.  And the fact the software fails to employ the most basic ISO programming standards.  And the stunningly honest instruction from QBO support reps that QBO Online Accountant software is full of bugs and should be avoided.

Intuit, where quality is not job one. In fact, it's not even a consideration.

QBO is not a relative to QBDT in any way, shape or form.  It's been completely re-written by remedial programmers that have no real-world bookkeeping/accounting experience and that have never had to suffer the use of this monster they created.

Vintage AF - I totally agree with you, QBO is a disaster for anyone who has had the Desktop version.  It has about half the features if you can locate them, and you will have to find your own work arounds to conduct business as you have been accustomed.  I volunteer my services for my church and were told that Intuit would no longer be supporting the desktop version we were using.  They implied that we would have to go to QBO and that there were no desktop options available.  We signed on with the Advanced QBO for the premium support. LOL what a joke that was. After struggling for a week or two and discovering more and more functions that were unavailable, I contacted Intuit sales and discovered that there was indeed Enterprise Desktop still available.  I completed one payroll session in QBO and entered no other transactions before switching to Enterprise and I have not looked back.  Everything is in the same place as before, all functions are there, all reports are in the same place.  I am so happy now.  I only hope that they do not discontinue this version any time soon.

You can use a 3rd party tool as a workaround.

You can still purchase QB Desktop 2024 Premier Plus before July 2024 and Intuit will support it until 2027. You can purchase a 3rd party service to downgrade your file from Enterprise.

You purchased the license directly to Intuit, correct? You may consider to cancel your license and ask for the full or pro-rate refund. Then purchase a new license of QB Desktop Enterprise thru selected partners. You will get a discounted price and a perpetual discount on renewals to lower your annual costs.

Thanks 4Gal. Intuit touted the ability to import invoices as a feature of the software, as a selling point to entice users. It should work without the need for a third party app. That a third-party app is needed is a perfect example of why QBO is garbage through and through, and why its users despise it.  It's a chore to use. It will never, ever be a suitable replacement for QBDT.

You can contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA and they will share more details about the private cloud solution.

Yes

Yes

what the costs ?

$22.5 /user/month. You can add/remove user every month to justify your needs and costs. You can use one user access interchangeably, It means you can only purchase 2 user access to lower your costs if you don't need to access the server at the same time.

Does anyone else think QuickBooks is terrible?

Hello Avi,

Thank you for coming back and seeking clarification regarding the QuickBooks Desktop product that best suits your business needs.

To answer your question, you can still use the QuickBooks Desktop subscription that includes 8 company files and 4 users under one license. However, please note that accessing QuickBooks Desktop software from any device connected to the server cloud is only available in QuickBooks Online.

If you would like to know more about the product and prices, whether online or desktop, you can refer to this link: Choose the QuickBooks Desktop or Online product for your needs.

Morover, you can also refer to this article to learn how to install and set up QuickBooks Desktop on a server so that computers on your network can access your company files: Install QuickBooks Desktop on a server.

If you have any additional questions about your QuickBooks Desktop account, please feel free to drop a comment below. I am always here to assist you. Stay safe!

I absolutely hate it.  I've used for 20 years and feel locked in because all my data is in there.

They are always trying to add features that benefit Intuit.  They are constantly offering me loans and sending me surveys.  I pay $65/month, isn't that enough to just leave me alone and let me use your subpar program?

You can convert your data to QB Desktop file and use the trial version to access it for good. Then you can start from scratch in a new app or program.

I had this same issue and useless CS experience with no help at all.  All of my deposits were missing the name field or source of revenue!  It’s a reported bug by many users and they haven’t done anything to fix this migration gap.  Updating it manually would have been impossible.

To top it off, they're pushing you to "Experts" rather than build an easy to use program

I have used it a long time and it has been helpful to me.

However,

I think what they might mean is that we are faithful users and all of a sudden we have to go online and pay for QB every year and from what I heard there is much less that you can do online than you could with Desktop discs.  I never even used the internet with my Quickbooks at all, except to update or find out about an error.

I guess I did not even need the internet to mail in my w-9's, but they won't let you do that now.

I had a few companies in QB at one time, and I understand you cannot to that anymore so what do we do about that?

It just really seems that they are pulling the rug out from under a lot of business owners, especially smaller businesses.

If any one agrees......
