I have just replaced my laptop, and want to load Quickbooks desktop onto my new laptop. How do I get a new license number for when I load it on the new laptop.
I have purchased Quickbooks online but prefer Desktop.
I am based in South Africa
You were using QB Desktop UK version, correct?
Do you consider to use QB Desktop 2024 US version now? They have discontinued QB Desktop UK version. You can use the trial version of QB Desktop 2021 UK version as a workaround if required.
It's nice to have a new face here in the QuickBooks Community forum, Fiona15. I appreciate your interest in our product. I'm here to share some information about the availability of QuickBooks Desktop to other regions.
As of the moment, QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) is available in the US, UK, and Canada regions only. For other regions, QuickBooks Online (QBO) is the recommended option. QBO has global and regional versions that cater to different countries' regulations, including VAT tracking and reporting.
If you have any further questions or need clarification on QuickBooks product availability and suitability for your specific needs, Fiona15, feel free to leave a comment. I'll be happy to provide more details or guidance.
Do we need to pay a yearly subscription fee still? I have Desktop Pro Plus 2023 and it wants me to renew a subscription even though I do not have any features that need any online help. I do not want to go to online. I will change software companies if this is the case.
QB Desktop 2023 Pro Plus is a subscription product and you have to pay the renewal fee annually. You can renew it and get a cashback, or switch to a non subscription product. You should contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA for details.
I appreciate your inquiry to this thread, @2Laidback. Let me share more details about your QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus (QBDT) subscription.
Yes, 4gal is right. QB Desktop 2023 Pro Plus is a subscription product, and you have to pay the renewal fee annually. You can renew it and get a cashback, or switch to a non-subscription product.
On the other hand, even if you are not using online functions on your Desktop like online banking and payroll, you are still required to continue or renew your QuickBooks Pro Plus subscription since there is no longer any option to downgrade your QuickBooks version to a lower version.
As of July 31, 2024, please know that QuickBooks will no longer offer new subscriptions for QBDT Pro Plus, Premier Plus, Mac Plus, and Enhanced Payroll. However, existing subscribers can't be affected by this change. That way, they can renew their subscriptions anytime, and QuickBooks will continue to provide customer support, product updates, and security updates to its existing subscribers.

So, to summarize
QBDT 2024 costs $650, & is avail for purchase until 7/31/24.
Is this a 3 year subscription price, valid until 7/31/27? If so, desktop 2024 costs $216/year, for 3 years.
Is this billed annually or are all 3 years paid in advance?
Then, after 7/31/24, there is no plan for QBDT 2025,
Or will annual versions still be available for existing users to purchase, in 3 year subscriptions?
Is 7/31/27 the last date QBDT will work?
All clients will then have to switch, mid year to another accounting system to finish the year off for tax preparation?
Welcome to the thread, @ASR Consulting. I'm available to help you with any questions regarding QuickBooks Desktop products.
Before we get started, could you please specify the version you are inquiring about? If you are inquiring about QuickBooks Desktop 2024 Pro Plus or Mac Plus, please note that the deadline to purchase these products has been extended from July 31, 2024, to September 30, 2024. Additionally, all QBDT 2024 products are now subscription-based and will be billed annually.
After July 31, 2024, QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise 2025 will still be available for purchase, as it is not affected by these changes.
It's important to note that only existing subscribers of QBDT Pro Plus, Premier Plus, Mac Plus, and Desktop Enhanced Payroll will be able to renew their subscriptions after September 30, 2024.
As long as your subscription remains active, you can continue to use any version of QuickBooks Desktop 2024. This means your clients can still use the product until the end of the year for tax preparation.

QB Desktop 2024 Pro Plus for single user = $650 and this cost is for 12 months. You can get $100 cashback to purchase it via a reputable partner if required.
Then, after 7/31/24, there is no plan for QBDT 2025,
Or will annual versions still be available for existing users to purchase, in 3 year subscriptions?
You will have to pay the renewal fee every year to keep your license active. I believe Intuit will release QB Desktop 2025 Enterprise on schedule. QB Online users still need QB Desktop to export their data to TurboTax.
Is 7/31/27 the last date QBDT will work?
All clients will then have to switch, mid year to another accounting system to finish the year off for tax preparation?
No. They will support QBD 2022 until 2025 and 2024 until 2027.
Don't know about the new version, but I'm still using my QB Premier 2020 version and it's working fine. They did everything possible to force me to switch to online, online does not meet my needs and I cannot afford the ridiculous price increase! I have been a QB user for probably close to 30 years, for a long time they kept saying the online version was the only version going forward. But now they have come back with a desktop version, must have been a lot of us that refused to go to the online, or it just wouldn't work for us. I like Quickbooks, but if they insist on $1000 per year for their product, I will figure something else out to use.
You are using QB Desktop 2020 with a non subscription license, correct? You can stay with it. Do you have any specific concern? Why do you have to upgrade to a newer version?
It seems to me, once you upgrade to a subscription, you are locked in for life. Otherwise, you will lose access to your data, with the exception of exporting it to TurboTax.
I assume they are increasing the price astronomically to cover investments into AI...
:- ((
Which QB Desktop year version do you have?
You don't want to know, lol.
I'm still using QB Desktop Pro 2018.
I'm spoiled.
Not fond of the online versions, reports, cost, etc. but I'm working on it...
Each year, for the past 14 years, the push for upgrades has gotten more & more difficult.
After 30 years, I am seeing the end of QB desktop. I'm not going to invest in the unknown. I'm not ok with a one year plan. A 5 year plan would be nice. :- )
If you don't need to run any add-ons, you can use a newer version with a non subscription license. You can also easily exporting data to TurboTax. It will definitely meet your 5 year expectations
Good Luck on continuing with desktop. I was forced out of my Desktop last year and as a small, only me employee business, I can't afford to do the online. As much as I hated being forced to it, I did try it this year, but could not figure out how to even bring over my information as it took away all of my former information. I feel like I have been definitely worked over by Intuit. Forced to use a different program which I don't like as much as what Quickbooks used to be, but no choice. QuickBooks definitely could care less about the little business owner! I was just on again today hoping beyond hope that maybe, just maybe they went back to offering a desktop version. Yeah, major disappointment but no surprise. Good luck!
could not figure out how to even bring over my information as it took away all of my former information.
You can use the trial version to access your historical data for good.
