On the third quarter Florida payroll report (Form RT6) the second page that has the employees on it now prints horizontally and the social security number that used to print as 9 digits (XXXXXXXXX) now prints XXX-XX-XX and leaves off the last 2 digits. While most of my forms are e-filed on the FDOR website, I cannot obviously I cannot give this form to a client who manually sends in there forms.
The second quarter was fine but now I go back into the second quarter it also prints incorrectly by leaving off the last 2 digits of the social security number.
I am assuming an update caused this issue. I have updated my file to the latest update, reset the update and still the issue exists.
I use Quickbooks Desktop 2022.
Is anyone else seeing this problem?
To Quickbooks - Is there an update that will fix this issue sooner than later ?
This is also an issue in 2021 desktop and 2023 desktop versions.
I have called Quickbooks and reported the bug through the software and am waiting to talk to someone who can fix the issue. The rep that answered the phone was unable to help.
I appreciate your effort in sharing those details, Madeleine34608
I understand the importance of accurate and complete information on these forms. I'm here to ensure your payroll forms are up-to-date.
We've recently released a new payroll update (22316) for QuickBooks Desktop that includes updates to various state forms, including the Florida RT-6 Employer's Quarterly Report. This means that the RT-6 form has been updated to the most current version, ensuring compliance with the latest requirements set by the state of Florida.
To find the most recent payroll update for your QuickBooks Desktop version, select your product year from the list below:
To access the updated RT-6 form, simply download and install the latest payroll update for QuickBooks Desktop. This will ensure that you have the most recent version of the form available within your payroll module. Updating to the latest payroll tax table will also resolve any unknown client-specific tax form printing errors.
If you continue to experience issues with printing paychecks, pay stubs, or forms, you may find this article helpful: Fix printing issues in QuickBooks Desktop. It provides steps to check your printing preferences, printer setup, or print alignment.
Let me know how this goes or if you still have other concerns about payroll forms. I'd be glad to help. Keep safe and enjoy your day!

As per my original post I have done all the updates and am on the one you note. The payroll updates are up to date.
It is NOT a printing error - it is a format error on the social security number field on page 2 of the RT6 form that only accepts 9 characters.
The format was always XXXXXXXXX and now Quickbooks has it formatted as XXX-XX-XX which uses two of the characters as dashes and leaves off the last 2 digits of the social security number.
I have been working with Quickbooks payroll for over 20 years so rest assured that I know most troubleshooting things to do and have even found work arounds to issues that Quickbooks were very slow to fix. I did the updates, I reset the updates, I re-did the updates again and I tried different versions of Quickbooks desktop and all are to the 22316 update you reference. ANd all have the same issue in the social security field.
I shared my screen (something that I hate to do as I was dealing with a social security number issue, (and therefore social security numbers were showing on the screen) and the rep had someone from higher up on her phone but I was not allowed to talk to the "higher up". I kept asking for technical help but was left with the rep that was just turning pages and having me do things that were not even related to the issue.
I was referred to my IT person as I kept getting told it was a printer issue. It is not a printer issue.
I am looking for a true fix for this issue as I need to get this particular form done today as my client is leaving the country.
I do not efile the forms through Quickbooks but if this formatting error carries through to the efiled forms then I am sure they will reject from the Florida Dept of Revenue.
I asked yesterday for the person trying to help me to actually go into the form at their end to see what was happening but they would not/did not do that.
So today I start all over again calling Quickbooks to explain again.
I spent over 1 hour and 45 minutes on the phone yesterday with no resolution with Quickbooks.
Also Archie_B, the rep kept asking what error messages I was receiving when printing the forms.
There are no error messages on the form. It is correct.
She could not understand why I did not get error messages.
And I tried to explain that the error is in the form's formatting so I would not get an error as the input info on the form is correct.
Thanks for following up with the Community, Madeleine34608. I appreciate your detailed information.
Since you're using Payroll Update 22316, you're seeing the RT-6 Employer's Quarterly Report correctly. On September 21, 2023, it was updated to its current version.
I can certainly understand how an ability to have the social security number (SSN) field display in a "XXXXXXXXX" format instead of an "XXX-XX-XX" format could be useful and have submitted a suggestion about it as of today.
You can also submit your own feedback while using QuickBooks.
Here's how:
Your feedback's definitely valuable to Intuit. It will be reviewed by our Product Development team and considered in future updates. You can stay up-to-date with the latest news about your product by reviewing Intuit's Product Updates webpage.
I'll be here to help if there's any questions. Have an awesome Thursday!
ZackE - as you can see in my earlier post I have reported the bug already so I don't need the steps to do so. Unless I keep reporting it so something gets done ??
The format for the SSN has ALWAYS been XXXXXXXXX so I don't know why it would have changed and not caught at Quickbooks with this update. Are you able to see it at your end if you try and create an RT6 for Q3 2023?
Can you provide me with an time frame on when this can be fixed ?
I appreciate you for coming back to the thread and clarifying your concern about RT6. I can see how vital it is to have the Social Security Number (SSN) field displayed in "XXXXXXXXX" format. Let me share additional information on how the form works in QuickBooks and route you to the right support team to assist you further.
As mentioned above we newly released a new payroll update (22316) for QuickBooks Desktop that includes updates to various state forms, including the Florida RT-6. Moreover, please know that the updated SSN format that shows in QuickBooks is dependent on what your state provides. This assures compliance with the most recent Florida standards.
For the time being, we are unable to provide a specific timeframe for when the SSN format will be formatted as XXXXXXXXXXX. However, you can contact your state's support team to confirm this and see if the old format is still accepted and be used in managing Quarterly Payroll Form in QBDT.
Lastly, refer to this article if you need help on how to run a payroll report to view your payroll totals, including employee taxes and contributions: Create a payroll summary report in QuickBooks.
If you have further concerns about RT6, don't hesitate to comment below again. I'm always looking forward to helping you, Madeleine34608. Take care!
How do I contact my State's support team?
I am pretty sure the State will not accept an incomplete SSN on a printed form.
Another 2 hours and 20 minutes on the phone and trying all kinds of things.
Nothing worked.
I was told it may be because I am using 2021 version but I am having the same issue in 2021, 2022 and 2023 desktop.
I now have asked for a supervisor call back which is scheduled for tomorrow (my day off).
Until then all I can do is efile the ones that are e-filed directly through the FDOR website and try and convince other clients that usually paper file so I don't have to hand write the forms.
So frustrating.
Please answer my question from a few days ago - you mentioned to reach out to my State support team but do not tell me how to do it.
So surprisingly the supervisor did not call me on Friday as I had requested. They were meant to call between 1 pm and 4 pm. Talk about poor customer service.
Is anyone else having Florida RT6 issues for Q3?
My work colleague has found a workaround for those clients of mine that paper file returns - he opened the RT6 in a pdf format that you can manipulate and he is able to add in the missing 2 digits of the social security number.
So for my paper file clients I will wait a week and then have to use this workaround since Quickbooks does not care about me as a customer even though we have been paying and using their software for over 20 years and our accountants' payroll subscription bundle is renewing in less than 2 weeks for $1,999.00
Another 2 hours on the phone today trying all kinds of stuff. None of it worked.
I did finally get Quickbooks to acknowledge that others are having problems. But apparently when they moved the file to a C drive (not network) and used another computer in the office, the issue was "solved". But then after I hung up I got a voice mail that said the issue was marked as "under investigation"
So, I have already tried using another computer and it had the same issue. On Monday when I am back in the office I will try another computer and move the file to a C drive and see again if it works. Though moving files to the C drive to process payroll and then put back on the network is not really an acceptable fix. Now I am being told that Quickbooks doesn't always work well on a network. It seems like different excuses each time I call. I never did get a reason why I did not get a call on Friday.
So frustrating.
Hello,
I'm Sarah, I'm in the Accountants Group Expert Network. I am looking into the formatting on the RT-6 because if I understand correctly the formatting has always worked up until this Qtr with the dashes out and everything went smoothly. Now in Qtr 3 the form has dashes and is dropping the last 2 numbers of the employee's Social Security number. I have taken many calls from Florida Accountants on this issue and I will see what help I can be in finding a resolution. I would like to set a realistic timeline of 7 days to have this resolved because it involves different departments.
Thanks @SMJones1
i have spent over 6 1/2 hours on the phone over 3 days with Intuit and been told so many different stories from how it is because I’m using 2021 version, my adobe is corrupt, I shouldn’t be using files on a network …. and I could go on. No one has really believed me that it is not my computer, my network, my adobe, my printer etc. Each time I’ve called I have to start from scratch even though I’ve had a case number. I got a new case number yesterday (not sure why) and I’ve reported a bug on 9/28 so it should already have been assigned and being looked at already as 7 days have already passed. A supervisor was meant to call me last week and they did not
Payroll is a really important part of my work with clients and with over 50 to do, I am beyond frustrated at Quickbooks.
i will reiterate that the issue is in 2021, 2022 and 2023 versions whether they are on a network or not.
i have had 4 people screen share and laugh when they say to hide any sensitive info because it’s the social security numbers that are the issue. And you can’t get more sensitive than that. One person told me that they don’t write anything down yet in the next breath she says she sent a screen shot to someone!!!!!
I was curious if you could update the post if you found the printer suggestions helpful and did they work. I also would like to just apologize to you and the others here who have had to call in multiple times and be told a variety of information that may not resolve your issue. I also have my own accounting and tax practice so I feel I can straddle the fence in that I love my job and I love Intuit , I also empathize 100% with my customers because I know their struggles and frustrations when issues arise. Oh, QuickBooks and Networking and Multi-User applications work great together we have been doing it since we could which was many years ago.
I wish you didn't have to go through these hurdles, @SMJones1. Allow me to address your concern about the Social Security Number (SSN) cutting off the last two digits of the quarterly payroll forms in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) when printing.
I appreciate you bringing this to our attention. As per checking, there's an ongoing investigation regarding this issue. Please be assured that our engineers are diligently implementing measures to resolve this matter at the earliest time possible.
We understand you've already reached out to our customer service team. However, we recommend contacting them again so they can add you to the list of impacted users. This way, you'll receive email updates about the progress of the investigation. To do that:
Additionally, viewing your payroll totals in QBDT is a breeze when you generate reports. They contain the necessary information for filing payroll taxes with the government, such as employee wages and contributions.
Let me know if you have other questions in mind concerning payroll forms. The Community is always available 24/7 to rescue you. Take care.
If reaching out 3 times does not put me on the impacted list I do not know what will. I have even asked for it to be escalated but apparently that has not happened. I have reported it as a bug twice giving me contact details. ANd NO I do not have another 2 hours to talk to someone who is reading from a piece of paper and not understanding the real issue here.
I have been using Quickbooks and their payroll for over 20 years so YES I know how to run reports and hand write forms, but after paying $1,999 for the PAP bundle I don't think this is really a solution you should be promoting.
So. please stop with the boiler plate answers and have someone work on the real issue here - the formatting of the SSN field in Form RT^ (FL payroll form) that changed with the update. YES I now the form was updated by the State to include some things BUT THE SSN FIELD was not one of the fields that needed to be updated or changed.
On a side note I find it really interesting that I have not received one survey on "How did we do" since I started contacting Quickbooks.
I will reiterate that NOTHING Quickbooks has tried to do so far has worked.
A work colleague who has a pdf program that can edit pdf documents has given me a workaround to go in and physically change each SSN on Form RT6 using this software for those clients who do not want theirs efiled.
That is cumbersome but right now it is the best option I have other than hand write a form which does not look in the least professional.
Finally got an email from Intuit on my issue. Only took them 12 days to acknowledge what I have been trying to tell them
Engineers are aware of the issue and it is in the process of being prioritized/investigated. Although this is being actively looked at, we do not have an ETA for resolution at this time.
After 3 weeks this issue has not been resolved.
Filing deadline is 2 weeks away and no resolution.
After paying $1,999 for the Accountant's payroll PAP bundle, my boss is not a happy camper.
The workaround we are using is to use a pdf software program that allows us to alter pdf forms and for those that do not owe money we are filing on the FDOR website directly.
We just went to see a 3rd quarter 2023 RT6 on the Florida Revenue website to see about amending an RT6 we filed through QuickBooks with social security number problems. We indicated that we wanted to amend the return and gave the reason from the dropdown arrow to be correcting a social security number. When we went on the return that showed up for 3rd quarter 2023, the return had all the social security digits and the correct dollar amounts of wages, so the full social security number somehow went to Florida Department of Revenue even though our printed copy was missing two digits. So, we are hoping this may not be a problem.
That is good to know and I will pass it along to my accountants group that have had theirs rejected when efiling through Quickbooks (even though Intuit shows it as filed.
However, my issue is with my paper file clients as it is printing as xxx-xx-xx on the form so I don't think that is not going to be acceptable with the FDOR.
