How do I cut a check after I've paid monthly 941 taxes in Quickbooks. I can't find a way to delete the entry and start over.

By "paid" I mean, in quickbooks only in the register. I haven't cut a check and am not authorized yet to pay electronically. The due date is 12/15/2020.

How do I cut a check after I've paid monthly 941 taxes in Quickbooks. I can't find a way to delete the entry and start over.

Good day, donna96.

I'll share with you the steps on how you can delete the tax payment in your bank register. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Reports menu and look for Payroll Tax Payments in the Search bar.
  2. Look for the payment that you made and click on it.
  3. Click the drop-down list beside View and Print Form, then click Delete.
  4. Click Yes to confirm that you want to delete the transaction.

Then, follow these steps on how to re enter it and print the liability check as well.

  1. Go to the Taxes menu and proceed to the Payroll Tax tab.
  2. Click Pay Taxes.
  3. Look for the 941 taxes that you need to pay and click Record payment.
  4. Click the drop-down list beside Record payment and click Record and print.
  5. Click View and Print Form.
  6. A PDF window will pop-up, just click the Print icon in the upper-right hand corner of the screen.

I'd also like to share a few articles about managing tax payments in QBO for additional reference:

Unfortunately I do not have the "delete" option on that screen.  Is there a setting I can update?

Thank you for your assistance!

I've got you covered, @donna96.

To fix this, let's access your QuickBooks Online company using a private browser. There are times that the browser is full of frequently-accessed page resources, thus causing websites, like QBO, to act weirdly.

Here are the shortcut keys you can use depending on your browser:

  • Google Chrome: Hold Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari: Press Command + Shift + N
  • Microsoft Edge or Mozilla Firefox: Hit Ctrl + Shift + P

Once signed in, follow the outlined steps provided by my colleague JenoP, to delete the tax payment.

If this works, go back to your regular browser and clear the cache. This will refresh the background processes of your browser to prevent problems when accessing websites.

If you get the same result while using a private browser, I recommend switching to a different browser. It could be that the one you're currently using has a temporary issue with QuickBooks.

Here's a great source where you can find articles that can help you in managing your books in QuickBooks, please head to QBO help articles at this link. This includes topics such as reconciliation, track income, and expenses, run reports, etc.

You can always get back here if you have other concerns or questions about deleting tax payments in QBO. I'll be here to help you. Stay safe.

How do I cut a check after I've paid monthly 941 taxes in Quickbooks. I can't find a way to delete the entry and start over.

Unfortunately that did not work either.

I tried a Chrome incognito window first - no ability to "delete".

Then I tried Firefox and Safari and neither allowed the ability for me to delete the entry.  :-(

Anything else to try?

I REALLY appreciate you both trying to help!

Good work for trying the recommended, Donna96.

I suggest reaching out to our customer care support so an agent can take a better look at this. They have more tools, like screen sharing, that can help you. Here's how:

  1. Click Help inside QuickBooks Online.
  2. Select Talk to a human.
  3. Enter "Delete a tax payment" in the Type something field.
  4. Click I still need a human.
  5. Select Contact us.
  6. Choose between Chat or Callback

The Community is available 24/7 to help you. Feel free to reach out to us again if you have other payroll concerns.

Did you ever find a solution? I'm currently in chat with a QB agent and I'm sure he thinks I'm crazy and not doing something right.

They deleted my tax payment for me after 30 minutes of 'trying to figure out the problem.' No solution.
