I'm having the exact same problem. I don't remote access, and it has auto updates. Since you say you have an ongoing investigation, I'll check back in a few days and hope they've solved it.
I am also using QB desktop and having the same problem - I have restarted my computer updated the software for QB all payroll is updated and still getting the same message. Hoping by tomorrow maybe they will have a fix for this as we need to get our quarterly payroll reports going!
They seem to have fixed it. There was an update this morning, and afterwards I was able to make it happen. Thank you.

As per checking, the Printing Error 10004 only affects those in the Right Networks hosted environment. Our developers are already investigating this issue. For now, it's best to reach out to our Technical Team so you'll receive updates about this.
Also, you'll want to update your QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release since this also helps other users.
