Hello and welcome to the Community, tracy5.
It would be my pleasure to help you submit W-2 in QuickBooks Online.
Can you share with me what happens when you try to e-file the form? Did you get any error message during the process? As early as now you should be able to submit the form W-2 within the QuickBooks product.
I've checked here, and we haven't received any reports from other users about a problem with submitting W-2 forms.
I want to ensure that you're able to submit the form electronically, so please don't hesitate to provide additional details below. I'm just a click away.
I'm having trouble understanding if Quickbooks did this for me as well. So I E-filed Employer Copies Form W-2. Does this electronically submit to SSA?
Hello and welcome to the Community, @mpe309.
I'm here to provide some clarification on your questions regarding the W2 form in QuickBooks Online (QBO). The Employer Copy (Copy D) is an exact replica of the version (Copy A) sent to the Social Security Administration. Copy A is what was sent when you elected to E-file in QBO, and Copy D is available to be printed for your own personal records. If you'd like to check the filing status of these forms, follow the steps below:
Checking E-File or E-Pay Status
We offer plenty of additional information on this in our guides on Preparing and Filing W-2 Forms and Checking the E-file or E-Pay Status. You can also check out the brief video demonstration I've included below for a visual example:
With these steps, you can be certain that the SSA has received and is processing your employee's W2 forms. Please keep in touch with me here for all of your QuickBooks needs, I want to make sure you're taken care of. Thanks for reaching out and have a wonderful rest of your day.
I am having trouble too! Keep getting an error message that says try again later...or print and mail!
Hello there, Jadehc.
Let's make sure that the previous submission did not go through to avoid duplication.
If not, let's submit the W-2 form. Before that, let's try these browser steps first.
First, use the Incognito window. If it works well, you can go back to the main browser and clear cache. If you're still getting the same error, you can use different browsers such as Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer or Google Chrome.
Let me know if you need more help.
When I try to view W-2's I get this error message:
Form not available at this time. Error reason:The requested form is not ready yet. Newly created data is still being processed. Please try again in a few minutes.
I switched from QB Desktop to Online mid year.
Any suggestions? I've tried multiple browsers and Incognito but still get the same error message.
im having the same trouble. hope someone posts the answer
Hi priti,
If you're getting an error that the form will be available soon, please see this link: Forms unavailable (blocked) for Q1 2019. This article shows the forms that are still in progress.
Otherwise, you can follow the troubleshooting steps provided by my colleague Joyce_Pb.
If you still get the same error after the troubleshooting steps, I'd recommend contacting our Phone Support Team. They have more tools to investigate this further.
Feel free to reach out to us if you have any other questions about QuickBooks. Thanks.
Yes me too! I'm about to pull my hair out.
What if you are trying to submit from the desktop and not QBO? It just keeps saying it can't submit at this time and to retry or print and mail them. All other clients are doing just fine, so it has to be something with this version (QB Desktop Pro 2017)? I've downloaded and installed all updates.
Downloading all of the updates in QuickBooks is a good place to start to fix errors like this, hsmithcpa.
Since you're still getting the same behavior when e-filing your W-2's, I'd suggest giving us a call. We can further check what's causing the error and fix it for you. This way, you can submit the forms before the deadline.
Here's how to get our contact number:
Please let me know if you need anything else. Thanks for dropping by.
Error submitting filing electronically. Error reason: Employee address is invalid or missing. It must contain an alpha character
Hi there, @AHSLV.
You may need to perform some browser troubleshooting steps. This is done to check if this is a browser-related issue.
You can begin with using an incognito browser. This can help us determine if this is a data issue. Below are the shortcut keys you can use to access one:
Once done, check if you're now able to e-file. If it works fine, clear your browser's cache to delete the cache files that cause unusual QuickBooks Online responses. If the issue persists, you can use another supported browser instead.
However, if the troubleshooting method still doesn't work, I'd recommend contacting one of our Customer Care Team. They have the tools to verify your account and help you get to the bottom of this. The support hours is Monday to Friday 6:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. PT, and Saturday 6:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. PT.
I've added this article in case you want to check your e-filling status in the future: Check e-filing or e-payment status.
I'm just a comment away if you other questions. I'll be here around to help you always.

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, Hungryhippo1. I will be delighted to help you here. If you haven't already, I encourage you to follow the troubleshooting steps, as my colleague mentioned above, to see if this is a browser-related problem. If you have done these steps and the issue still persists, please let me know. I will be looking out for your response. Take care for now!

I was having trouble and got the address needing an alpha character. After trying all of the suggestions in this thread I finally found the answer with live help.
There really was an address that only had the street number and not the street name! I just didn't look closely enough for it. I fixed it and everything worked.
Look at each employee carefully. Hopefully you don't have hundreds of them. Look for anyone who joined the company in 2022.
