I can use Quickbooks for writing checks, making deposits or reconciling but when I try to open payroll, it immediately crashes and shuts down.
I know it is essential for you to run payroll in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), Amys10. Let me share additional information about this matter.
We are currently investigating the issue of QuickBooks crashing when accessing payroll. Our engineers are actively working to know the root cause of this unexpected behavior.
While we look into this, I recommend reaching our Customer Support Team to add you as an affected user. This way, you'll receive an email notification once we resolve this. You can also provide this (INV-87796) number.
Here's how:

Having the same problem in QB Enterprise 23. It started when the 22312 payroll update was available. Tried to download the payroll update. It gave an OOPS error and now it crashes each time when clicking on Employee or Payroll center.
I wish you didn't have to go through all these hurdles when doing your payroll tasks, FBCPA.
I understand how updates are relevant, and we appreciate the time you've taken to let us know about this concern. As per checking, we currently have an ongoing investigation relating to this unusual behavior when accessing payroll or the employee center. Please know that our engineers are already aware of this issue and are implementing measures to provide a resolution as soon as possible.
With that, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Team to have your account information added to the list of affected users. This way, you'll receive updates regarding the status of the investigation and ensure you'll get back to business.

SAME PROBLEM HERE! We upgraded to Enterprise 23.0 on June 4. On June 21, we loaded Payroll Update 22312 and WE ARE HAMSTRUNG!!! Weekly payroll with 125+ employees. We are panicked!
Can we UNINSTALL Payroll update 22312?????
I'm adding further information to this thread to address your concern on how to remove a payroll update in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @RunningCPA.
I understand how the payroll update has presented some concerns for you. Please know that this isn't what we want you to experience. Currently, the process of updating your payroll is irreversible. That said, we're unable to uninstall it in QBDT.
In the meantime, I can provide some workarounds to get you back in running payroll. Please refer to the following:
If the issue persists, you may follow Solutions 1 to 6 stated in this article: Troubleshoot Unrecoverable Error XXXXX XXXXX.
Moreover, you'll want to invite your employees to QuickBooks Workforce so they can access their W-2s and pay stubs. This way, an email notification will be sent to them once their pay stubs are available for viewing and printing.
Let me know whenever you have additional concerns relating to payroll. We're always around to help. Take care and have a wonderful rest of the day!
"I understand how the payroll update has presented some concerns for you." "Some concerns" does not begin to describe where we are. The replies to this issue revolve around "workarounds" and "we understand." WE ARE HAMSTRUNG! Your software has disabled us. The replies include LOTS of verbiage to be nice and you are reading a script. THIS NEEDS FIXED! I want to apologize for my tone, but doing so minimizes the urgency of needing this fixed!
I also have the same issue with the payroll update crashing the employee center. I'm not certain the criticality of this problem has been expressed fully to the development team. Without the ability to get into the payroll area staff cannot be paid. If you can imagine not getting a paycheck when you are expecting one you might start to understand the severity of this issue. NO ONE over there should be permitted to go home or get paid until this issue is resolved. The payroll module is one area that CANNOT be allowed to fail. We need fixes or we need QB to perform payroll for us until the problem is resolved.
ALSO....we cannot use the system in multi-user mode! We are paying for five users.
Hi there, RunningCPA.
I would love to provide you with helpful insights regarding your current issue, but I just need further information. In order to do so, could you kindly provide me with more details about your concern when using multi-user mode?
Additionally, if you encounter any warning or error upon setting it up, please post it below. This will ensure that I give you the most accurate and relevant details tailored specifically to your setup.
Any additional input will be greatly appreciated. I'll keep an eye out for your response and look forward to assisting you further.
** UPDATE
Just got off the phone with QB Support. Went to HELP menu, Update QB Desktop, Update Now, check Reset Update and click Get Updates. I had an error code under "critical fixes". Once updates are complete, restart QB. Hope this helps!
I'm having with same issue with QB crashing each time i try to use the payroll center. BUT managed to get payroll process thru a work around!! I am not tech savvy... i just kept trying.
I was able to enter timesheets but that was all.
Click Employees at top menu, SCROLL to Payroll (do not click or it will crash), menu will open to the right and CLICK Unscheduled Payroll. I managed to get payroll processed this way. I hope this helps someone... bc YES this is a MAJOR issue for businesses! I have a call into QB Support as well.

Hi there, @TduvallTexas. I am sorry to hear you experienced this issue.
Our engineers are aware of the issue and it is in the process of being prioritized/investigated. Although this is being actively looked at, we do not have an ETA for resolution at this time.
In the meantime, there is a workaround you can use to get you up and running. Here's how:

The fact when I try to open Payroll it crashes Quickbooks...As the title
I spent an hour on with support last night an had my issue resolved. I was having the issue in Desktop Accountant. Below are the steps the rep had me take.
1. Download and install the latest updates from the website. This was mine, you would need to find your version. https://downloads.quickbooks.com/app/qbdt/products?productName=QuickBooks%20Desktop%20Accountant&edi...
2. Navigate to control panel > Uninstall a Program > Locate your Quickbooks on this list and double click. The Wizard will open, on the second screen select Repair. Follow though the Wizard
Not sure if the following was necessary but we did this before trying to reopen the payroll center
3. Download and open Quickbooks Tool Hub . The link is listed under step 1 on this link. https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/login-password/fix-common-problems-er...
4. Navigate to Company File Issue. Run both 'Quick Fix my File' and 'Run Quickbooks File Doctor'. These steps probably took the longest.
After all the above I was able to open my Company files and navigate into the payroll center without it crashing. Hope this helps someone else!
My QB Desktop 2023 is having the same issue - it crashes any time I try to open Employee Center or Payroll Center. Were you able to get your problem rectified?
I'm sorry you've had to go through this, leigh6. I'm stepping into the thread to give updates on this issue and some workarounds you can perform to access the Payroll or Employees Center seamlessly.
I want you to know that our engineers are actively working together and prioritizing this issue to gather a resolution as quickly as possible. While they're doing that, I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Desktop Support to have your name added to the list of affected users in the ongoing investigation. Once added, you'll automatically receive email notifications of the latest updates.

Please be patient while our team works to find a solution to this behavior. If you have other QuickBooks or payroll questions in mind, let me know by leaving a comment below. I'm more than happy to help. Have a good one!
I am tired of "our Engineers are working on it" and I'm tired of seeing "workarounds." We use Enterprise Solutions 23.0 (multiple users). We have 140 employees that we pay weekly. We have multi-state payroll. We use Desktop. This all happened when Quickbooks put out Payroll update 22312. IT IS AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. Workarounds are not acceptable - what happens to THAT when it is fixed?!?!. YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND so quit saying you do. Quit sending info that "in the meantime, you can read these articles about your payroll processes." It is obvious that YOU DON'T EVEN USE YOUR OWN SOFTWARE or this would not have ever happened. I agree that NO ONE AT QUICKBOOKS SHOULD GET PAID UNTIL THIS IS 100% RESOLVED! THEN, and only THEN, will you "understand." Again, I'd like to apologize for my tone but doing so minimizes the urgency and impact of this situation. We are actively pursuing another accounting software company.
