Scheduled payroll is behind a week

I went to do scheduled payroll this week and the dates showed 6/11 instead of 6/18. When I clicked on it I got a message saying I already had checks dated for the 11th. So I continued and changed the pay period and check date to 6/18. Once completed, it now says my next scheduled payroll should be 6/18 when it should be 6/25. I have not skipped a week of payroll or done anything I can think of that would have caused it to get off track. All the previous payroll checks have the correct pay period. Does anyone know how to fix this? I have upgraded for 2018 Desktop to 2021 Desktop 3 weeks ago.

I followed your steps and the delete payroll schedule did not work but I clicked edit payroll schedule and it let me change it to the correct date.

Thank you!

Scheduled payroll is behind a week

I am delighted to have you here, @junegerhardt.

Usually, this error occurs when your data is damaged or corrupted. We can run the Verify/Rebuild tool utility to detect the data damage.

Here's how:

1. Go to the File menu, then hover over Utilities.

2. Select Rebuild Data.

3. On the QuickBooks Information window, select OK. Follow the onscreen steps to save a backup.

4. Let the tool repair your file. It may take some time. QuickBooks may seem stuck, but as long as you can move your mouse, the tool is working.

5. When the tool finishes, select OK.

6. Go to the File menu, and then hover over Utilities.

7. Select Verify Data.

8. Let the tool check your file for data issues.

If QuickBooks doesn't find any problems, select OK. However, if QuickBooks finds an issue with your company file, click Rebuild Now.

Also, make sure QuickBooks has its latest release. This is to ensure that everything is up to date.

See this link for more details: Set up and manage payroll schedules. Also, the following article for more information: Change or edit paycheck date

Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with today. Keep safe and have a beautiful day.

Scheduled payroll is behind a week

Hi Maybelle,

I was just able to get around to doing this today. I ran the utilities you suggested and no errors were found. I also made sure I was updated to the lastest version and it is. Payroll still shows my next scheduled date is 6/18/2021 instead of 6/25/2021.

Thank you for your help.

I appreciate all your efforts in performing the steps above, junegerhardt.

I see the importance of having the correct payroll schedule. No worries, I'm here to make sure your payroll will be back on track.

Aside from updating your QuickBooks software to the latest release, let's ensure that you have the latest payroll updates. This guarantees that you have current and accurate rates. Then, you can delete the scheduled payroll and recreate them. This way it will start fresh with the latest updates. I'll show you how.

  1. Go to the Employees menu, then select Payroll Center.
  2. Click the Pay Employees tab.
  3. Under the Create Paychecks table, choose the payroll schedule that you want to delete.
  4. From the Payroll Schedules dropdown, select Delete ScheduleNote: If you get a prompt saying you can’t delete or make a payroll schedule inactive, you still have employees on it.
  5. Select OK.

Once done, you can recreate your scheduled payroll. For your reference, you can review this guide: Set up and manage payroll schedules. This contains the steps on how you can remove and create scheduled payroll.

In addition, feel free to check this resource if you want to correct the pay period listed on paychecks: Incorrect pay period dates in QuickBooks Desktop Payroll.

Post any details if you have further concerns about running your payroll. We're always here to back you up 24/7. Stay safe!

Jeungerhardt,

Thanks so much for asking this question!  I just had the same issue and your method worked beautifully.  And it was way less complicated.
