Hi becdieter!

There isn't a roundtrip option during creation. You can only add it after you save the trip, as shown in the screenshot. I'll provide steps to guide you through it.

  1. Create the trip first.
  2. Click More on the saved trip.
  3. Choose Round trip.
  4. Review the details and click Save.

Thank you. ThT is helpful. There was a button you checked right on the input screen before. Not sure why it changed.
One more question, again online when I type in the name of a place it no longer automatically pulls up the address. Additionally, it was not computing the mileage like it had in the past. It worked on the phone app but not on the online version on my PC.

Thanks for getting back to us and bringing this to our attention, @becdieter.

Let's perform basic troubleshooting steps, so you can pull up the address and automatically compute the mileage. There are times that too many cache files stored in the browser can cause unexpected behavior with the product.

To start, let's logging in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account via a private browser. It's also a great way to isolate the issue since it doesn't store data in the cache.

Please use these shortcut keys to access a private browser:

  •  Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Safari: Command + Option + N

Once signed in, go to the Mileage menu and locate the address in the Filter trips by info. Let me show you how.

  1. Go to the Mileage menu.
  2. Find the trip in the Filter trips by info.
  3. In the Distance (MILE) column, view the potential deduction of your trip.
  4. Click Edit in case you need to change it.

If it's working, you'll have to go back to your regular browser and then clear the cache to get rid of the junk files. You can also use other supported browsers as an alternative.

In case you need to track multiple vehicles, please refer to the Manually track mileage for multiple vehicles article for the steps and details.

Is this feature available in Self-Employed? Either web or mobile app. I can't seem to find it.

The Round Trip feature is only available in QuickBooks Online, kba736.

I can see how the functionality to create a round trip when entering miles would be beneficial to your business. With this, I'd recommend submitting product feedback to help improve your experience using the program. This way, our product engineers can consider the round trip option for future system upgrades.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Assistant menu.
  2. Type in the "Submit or Give feedback" keyword in the Type something... field.
  3. Choose the Add a feature option.
  4. Type the feature you want (i.e., Round Trip feature) in the Type something... field again.
  5. Click Yes.

For the time being, you'll have to manually enter your round trip details in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

How can I access(add and edit) my mileage via online platform on my laptop, and not on the phone app? I have the simple start plan. The mileage portion of the app is super clunky and a pain to use.

Thanks

Hello, Chris.

I'd be happy to guide you on how to access your mileage through the web browser version of QuickBooks Online.

Open your laptop's web browser and go to http://qbo.intuit.com/

You'll want to use the same credentials you've used on the phone app. You can access the Mileage feature by simply going to the Mileage tab on the left navigation panel.

If you have the new navigation panel, go to the Apps menu then select Mileage

You'll be able to edit or add your mileages using the options on the page.

Ok I found the Mileage app on the browser like you instructed. Thank you. Next problem. When I go to add a trip I enter my starting address and ending address. Then a window pops up and says would I like to use the auto calculated distance for the trip. Regardless if I select yes or no, the window closes and the screen goes right back to the main list of mileage trips without saving the new trip I added.

Please help!

Thanks for keeping us posted, Chris.

Let's perform some troubleshooting solutions to get your mileage working out.

There are times when a browser's cache data becomes full of frequent access to web pages or damaged. This causes odd behavior when adding trips in QuickBooks Online (QBO). To better isolate this issue, let's try signing in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account using a private or incognito window. This mode doesn't use the existing cache data and helps us confirm browser-related issues. Here's how:

  • For Google Chrome browser: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • For Mozilla Firefox browser: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • For Safari browser: Command + Option + P

Then, try adding the trip your mileage again.

If it works, go back to your regular browser and clear the cache to delete those temporarily stored files and browsing history. The overtime collection of data can create corruption, however, removing this should fix the issue. You can also use supported, up-to-date browsers to roll out the possibility of a browser-related issue.

Yes, that worked! Great. I did the private browser window and then cleared cookie/history of a regular browser window(Safari). Only issue now, is it won't auto calculate mileage anymore when I enter the two addresses. Not a huge deal, but that could be handy.

Thank you for your help

-Chris
