Can I convert Sage 50 to QB if I only have a Sage 50 back file (.ptb) and I will NOT have sage 50 software on my computer.

Glad to see you in the Community space, @metb16

The conversion process between Sage 50 to QBDT needs both programs installed on the same computer. You also have to make sure that your system meets the requirements set for the tool to work.

Check out this article for more information: Convert from Sage 50 to QuickBooks Desktop. On the same link, you’ll find what data can and can’t be converted to the program.

I’m adding this resource to serve as your reference when using the tool: Use Sage or Peachtree conversion tool to convert to QuickBooks Desktop.

You can also contact our Technical Team to do the task. Just a heads up though, fees may apply.

Here’s how to contact support:

  1. Go to the Help menu at the top and select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Click the blue Contact Us link at the bottom of the pop-up window.
  3. Enter a brief description of your concern and hit Continue.
  4. Select the support option that works for you.

I’m adding this article as your guide: Contact the QuickBooks desktop customer support team.

I know. I keep reading both softwares have to be installed. I really need to find someone to convert this for me. Like I said, I just have a backup sage file .ptb. Is there a Quickbooks support center that I can send the file to for conversion?

I missed that part that customer service will do the conversion. I’m willing to be a support fee. So you think it’s possible to send them the sage backup?

Welcome aboard to the Community, @metb16.

We have our Data Services team who help converts data to the Desktop version of the program. They will be asking you to send the data needed via email to perform the process.

For additional information about the Data Services team, check out the following article. It also contains detailed steps regarding the type of files you can upload:

@metb16

As mentioned by QuickBooks team, you may contact Data Service to ask the conversion service.

But should you need to get the converted data file in due course, consider purchasing a 3rd party conversion service as we had our clients to do so.  We notice the following information is not converted:

  • Bank Reconciliation (You will need to do a single bank reconciliation after the conversion. They will send you instructions to do this.)
  • Paychecks are converted as Journal Entries (Importing Paychecks is not supported by Quickbooks)
  • Employee YTD information
  • Employee Payroll setup data is not converted (Sick Pay, Vacation, Direct Deposit information, Pay rates, Tax setup including Withholdings, Deductions, etc.)
  • Individual employee wage or deduction information
  • Custom templates
  • Jobs are not attached to transactions
  • Budgets
  • Fixed Asset Items (This is only applicable if your Sage 50 data file is linked to Sage 50 Fixed Assets)
  • Work Tickets
  • Posting and Non-posting transactions after the current date are not converted
  • Closed or partially closed Sales Orders, Purchase Orders, and Estimates
  • Sales Tax items are converted to Quickbooks but Customer Sales Tax defaults are not assigned to customers.
  • They try to map every available field in Sage 50/Peachtree to the corresponding field in Quickbooks. In some cases, fields are not compatible and are not transferred over. You will need to manually enter such fields after the conversion. Examples of such fields are vendor default account numbers, preferred vendors for inventory, multiple shipping addresses for customers, and default Customer Sales Tax settings.

Hope it helps.

Yes, this helps a lot.  So you are recommending a third-party convert vs. sending to Quickbooks Date people?  Do you have a specific 3rd party you can recommend?  My understanding if this isn't a big file, about 2 years worth of booking.  There is not sophisticated job costing, etc., sounds like just basic bank, a/p, a/r transactions.  Payroll was not done through Sage, they had a 3rd party payroll service and entered payroll by uploading a journal entry to sage.
