I'm trying to help a neighbor out with quickbooks. I'd rather not make a mistake so please bear with me as I explain the situation.
With that said, they had quickbooks desktop installed on a Mac through bootcamp running windows 10. Both operating systems decided to crap out. I spent most of today fiddling with both systems trying to find a path of least resistance. I got Mac up and running but windows will not load normally or in safe mode, it will not chkdsk /f. Would love to save and fix whatever is broken in windows but I'm running out of tricks. I'm thinking I might have to reinstall windows but I need to know:
I can access company files from the Mac side so I copied them over (C:Users/Public/Documents/Intuit/Quickbooks/). I don't think this counts as a backup so was wondering is there a way to restore from this data?

Which QB Desktop year version do they run?
The folder just says QuickBooks 2024 under Program Files/

Prior to me getting it, the computer was crashing due to any free space being consumed by something -- (I was able to clear up 1 GB of space but in 10 minutes it was gone. Something consumed it which I think is either corruption of virus.) To my point, she tried to do a backup but it stated there wasn't;t enough room on HD. I'm wondering if the data I copied from the Users/Public/Documents/Intuit/QuickBooks/ directory contains the failed attempt or is the company files regardless of backups. I'm not sure where else the company files would be located.

I did this search from within Mac (used mac specific search terms) and was brought to my backup folder.
I tried this method however when I clicked to open up the company file that I had found on the old drive (.qbw 61,128kb) I get a popup message that states it needs to download a File Doctor. When I click the link in the popup I get sent to some quickbook page that isn't found but includes another link to some random generic search page. I can't find any information about this File Doctor though. Does the app need to download some updates -- could it be out of date? I downloaded it straight from their account page under their active products. Any ideas?
Can you find any *.qbw or *.qbb files?

Try installing and running QB ToolHub on your bootcamp. I prefer using Parallels to run QuickBooks Windows. If you don't have a PC to troubleshoot, contact Intuit Support for help. Otherwise, you can contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA for assistance. They can help to check (and fix) your company file.
Yeah, I would agree. I'm usually on windows using linux on virtualbox. This setup is very smooth. The mac/windows setup is a little frustrating in regards to scaling the window correctly. I didn't push Parallels because I knew there was a cost to it that she might not want to shell out. Knowing what I know now, I might suggest it as a better approach.
Ended up reaching out to support and did a screenshare with them. We ended up uploading the file to their support team in which they were able to repair it. I was at work but I was told that they met with her again today to help restore the fixed file. All is good now. I really appreciate everyone's help with this!!
