What about on an invoice, if I want to limit or round the price per weight to 2 decimal places, it will force my sale amount up by a few cents. And when I force the total amount back down, it changes the weight again to show 4 decimal places.  I don't want to see 4 decimal places on our invoice. QB desktop 2015. Any suggestions?

Hi, @mfree.

Thank you for your response. Let me help share some information about decimal places in QuickBooks.

At this time, QuickBooks Desktop can only show two decimal places. We can't change the decimal places in an invoice because the field only accepts two decimal places. Please see attached screenshot.

I've seen similar requests from other customers about the ability to change decimal places in QuickBooks. I'd suggest you also send a feature request about this. The more requests we receive about a specific feature, the more likely it gets implemented.

Here's how you can send feedback:

  1. Got to Help menu and select Send Feedback Online.
  2. Click Product Suggestion.

Let me know if you have additional questions about your invoice. I'm here to help.

This is an estimate that shows way more than 2 decimal places in the cost field.  How do I prevent this from happening?  It also shows the same on the invoice.

It is automatically placing multiple decimal places after the . on an estimate or an invoice.  Please tell me how to get this to round up.

Hi, @Octal.

Thanks for joining in the discussion. I'm here to help figure out why you're having multiple decimal places on your estimate.

The cost automatically calculates based on the quantity and total amount you entered in your estimate. This will include multiple decimal places to view the total cost divided from the total amount.

Please see attached sample below for your reference.

For now, the option to get this to round up is not available in QuickBooks Desktop.

If you need help articles in the future, you can always refer to this website: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/community/Help-articles/ct-p/help-articles-us?label=QuickBooks%20Deskt....

Please don't hesitate to also ask again in the Community if you have additional questions about decimal places on your transaction forms. I'm just around the corner if you need my help.

So there is still no fix. I have things out to the 5th or 6th decimal place on quotes.  It is very annoying I have to go back and look at a quote prior to giving it out.  It looks very unprofessional to have $3.45643 on the quote.  The Total amount is always to the 2nd decimal place but the cost is where it gets stupid.

So no fix for this then?

When it calculates the cost of an item for a quote it shows up sometimes up to 6 digits past the decimal place.  See the attached quote on InkedScreenshot 2020-09-25 16.04.48_LI.jpghow it shows 3 places.  This looks horrible.  I would like to round this number.

Thanks for joining the thread, @Josh ness.

As mentioned above, the system only shows the exact calculation for cost. If you want to get rid of multiple digits after the decimal, you can manually round them off and enter by hand.

You might want to use some form templates so you can modify the details. QuickBooks contains the customization tools you need to make them so. You can control how they look and what information to include. Let me show you how:

  1. Select the type of form you’d like to customize.
  2. From the form, select the Formatting tab then select Manage Templates.
  3. Select a template to preview, then select Copy to create a new template.
    Capture.PNG

You can refer to this guide on how to complete the process about customizing and using form templates. In case you want to copy them from one company file to another, the link also includes importing and exporting instructions.

Should you have other questions, please let me know so I can answer them for you. Keep safe.

I am having the same issue - it basically makes this function useless for sales people to change a mark-up on the fly.  Did this happen to get fixed?  In the item card, if you try to make these changes - it slightly adjusts the mark-up to make it a round number to .00, instead of allowing .00000 ...

I have some information about how to handle price rounding. If you're using the advanced pricing feature, you can choose the rounding of your decimal places from the settings.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Edit menu at the top, then tap Preferences.
  2. Choose the Sales & Customers tab, then the Company Preferences tab.
  3. Scroll down towards the Custom Pricing section.
  4. Tick the Use the same rounding across all price rules radio-button.
  5. Hit the Select drop-down to choose. You also have the option to Set rounding on each price rules. See the attached image below.

However, if you're not using the custom price rules feature. You can choose the minimum number of decimal places from the transaction template as mentioned by @MadelynC. Below is the screenshot of how it looks like.

Thank you for responding!

The minimum # of decimal places does not reduce the number when it is over 2, just makes sure there are at least 2.  It does not round to 2 digits.  If it did just show 2 digits there would still be problems - in the example I am working it shows 100 cases x 33.305 = 3330.50 - so if it did show 33.30- the total would still be more than the sales price x qty  - as QB would still add that additional 3rd digit x qty (it would show 100 cases x 33.30 = 3330.50).  This would cause a lot of confusion about where the 0.50 came from -  as you cannot see the new sales price on the estimate screen - only in the print preview of the estimate.

Turning on advanced pricing has no effect at all on changing the mark-up in estimates functionality and is for price rules.

A great solution for our company would be:

1) the sales price column be on the estimate screen, like it is on a sales order or invoice.  Currently in estimates the sales price per item is not seen in the estimate screen, only the total price (sales price x qty).  The only way to see it is do a print preview.

2) the mark-up in estimates work like it does in the items card, rounding the sales price to 2 digits and slightly adjusted the mark-up amount.

3) a major bonus would be to have both the margin and mark-up available to calculate the price in estimates, like on the item card - as we typically work on margins.

4) a double bonus would be  both margin/mark-up showing as a percentage for the total estimate as well as on the line items (it currently calculates the total markup on the order in dollar value, but we have to do the math to see what is the order mark-up %).

If you have any other solutions - I would love to hear them - I have spend many, many hours on this issue over the years to no avail.

Hello there, JohnCII.

You can edit your estimate template so you can select the Cost and Markup to show both on the screen when you create an estimate and when you print it. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Lists menu and select Templates
  2. Double-click on the estimate template.
  3. Click Additional Customization and go to the Columns tab.
  4. Check both Screen and Print for Cost and Markup.
  5. Click OK and then OK to close.

The markup amount and percentage will only show when you have a billable expense attached to the estimate. For more details, you can click this link: Tracking job costs in QuickBooks Desktop.

Let me know if you have other questions. Take care!

You're most welcome, @JohnCII.

I have an idea to make sure you can enable the margin field on your estimates. To achieve this, you'll have to customize them

I've got the needed steps to ensure your success. Here's how:

  1. Open an estimate, and then go to the Formatting tab.
  2. Choose Customize Data Layout, and then navigate through the Columns tab.
  3. Select the Other option, and then enter Margin as the Title.
  4. Tick the Screen and Print checkboxes.
  5. Click OK.

Once done, you can now enter the desired amount on the Margin column. Please note that QuickBooks won't auto-calculate the said amounts. Thus, you'll need to set the percentage or value you want on them.

Also, you can pull up the Transaction List by Customer report and then customize it to keep track of all your estimates. To do that, go to the Reports menu, and select the said report from the Customers and Receivables section.

Lastly, I encourage you to check out our Firm of the future site to get you in the loop about the latest news and product enhancements.

I'm always around to help if you have additional questions about managing your estimates in QuickBooks. Have a good one.

Hi JohnCII,

I have the exact same issue that you are experiencing.  The inability of the software to round to 2 decimal places for unit prices for marked up items makes this software useless for marking up items. I cannot send quotes to customers with more than 2 decimal places for line items. It looks unprofessional and my customers refuse accept unit pricing in this format.

I sat on a support call with Quickbooks for 4.5 hours on 2/3/20 (not an exaggeration) which consisted of me speaking to 3 different reps and ultimately be told that the Premier version in which I was currently using did not have this feature. I was told that if I upgraded to the Enterprise version, I would have the option to round off to 2 decimal places.  After taking the suggestion and upgrading, paying 3 times more for the Enterprise version, the rep had me change some configurations as shown in the previous thread.  To no avail, I still have up to 5 decimal places for unit prices.

Quickbooks, please resolve this issue and train your support reps better! I have wasted a lot of time on this issue and should not have been misled to upgrade to a version that did not resolve my issue.

Hello,

I am entering EUR Vendor payments and the X-change rate is i.e.  1.194529   (six digits after the decimal.)

QB Enterprise automatically rounds this up to 1.19453 which results in a exchange difference. Can the settings be changed to six digits after the decimal .?   Thank you.

Hello,

when entering EUR vendor payments , the x-rate has often six digits after the decimal point i.e. 1.194529.

Enterprise / QB automatically rounds it up to 1.19453 which causes an exchange difference in the books.

Is there a way that we can change the exchange rate to 6 digits after the decimal point?

Thank you.

Hi there, CW191.

Let me share some information about how QuickBooks Desktop handles transactions in foreign currency.

By default, the program can round of foreign currency rate until 5 decimal places only. The option to change or adjust the decimal places up to 6 digits is unavailable.

At times, we roll out product enhancements based on our customers' requests and suggestions. Rest assured, I'll take note of this to improve your QuickBooks experience. To stay current with our latest news and product updates, you can visit our Firm of the Future page.

On the other hand, I've attached an article that will help you track how you're business is doing in terms of vendor expenses: Customize vendor reports.

Let me know in the comment section if you need more help in entering your other transactions. I'll always have you back.

I had the same problem.  It happened only when I used "Create Invoice" from an Estimate.  I solved it by NOT using the "Create invoice for percentage of the entire estimate" .  If you choose the 3rd option "Create  invoice for selected items or for different percentages of each item"  and then punch the % in the invoice screen itself, line by line, it keeps the original contract amount in tact.  I don't know if this problem is happening if you do not use Estimates, but this worked for me.
