Join nowI have been having issues with data files giving me various error codes when trying to open in Desktop Pro 2018. The data files are stored on a server, accessed from one and only one PC on the same network. The most recent error message is -6144, -82. Is there something wrong with my file set up that is causing these errors? It doesn't happy every time, and it is become a problem restoring data files from the tape back up and re-entering the missing day's data.
Good morning, @RSM111.
The error code -6144,82 you're receiving means that your network is set up incorrectly. To resolve this error, you can rename the .ND and .TLG files. Once you rename these files, they're automatically re-created when you use the QuickBooks Database Server Manager and when you open the company file. These articles will walk you through the steps of additional solutions:
If you still have trouble afterward, I recommend calling in to speak with a member of the Desktop Support Team. They have a tool that allows them to screen share and work alongside you to determine what's causing the problem.
I'll be on standby if you have any other questions concerning QuickBooks. Take care!
For years I have had Quickbooks on dropbox so that I can use the same program from home and the office. Now it doesn't open until I try multiple times, use the Quickbooks Tool Hub, fix program or let some self fix run. Is there a problem having dropbox sync Quickbooks now? How else would I use the program on two computers, having bought one program?
Thanks,
Ross

Hey, Would you happen to know why would I get this code when trying to create a company file? I have been trying to solve this for a week, I started a new LLC to hold some real estate and for life of me I cannot create a QB file.
Thanks for joining on this thread, @mjem66.
Let me help you create and resolve your QuickBooks Desktop company file. The error that you’re getting has numerous triggers and requires several steps to resolve.
First, we need to make sure that your account is up to date. Once confirmed and the error keeps going, I'd suggest running QuickBooks Tool Hub to shut down any lingering background processes QuickBooks may be using.
Here's how:
After that, re-create the company file to verify if it's already functioning well. If the issue keeps going, I'd recommend repairing your QBDT. Let me show you how:
If the error continues, please follow Solution 6 on the first article and turn off the settings window to resolve the issue. After that, go back from the selective startup normal set up and re-open the QuickBooks.
