How can I convert QBO to Quicken?

I've got steps to ensure you're able to convert your  QuickBooks Online data to Quicken,@cicenhour.

First off, we're unable to directly convert QuickBooks Online (QBO) data to Quicken. As a workaround, we can download a QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) trial version where we can export the data from QBO. Then, we can use QBDT to export your lists or transactions to Excel where you're able to manipulate it. Finally, we can now import it to Quicken.

You'll want to refer to this article for the links to download the QBDT trial versions: QBDT trial versions. Before you start, ensure that your computer meets the minimum requirements to install QuickBooks: What are the system requirements for QuickBooks Desktop?.

Let's begin by converting your QBO data to QBDT. Before you convert, here are a few things to remember:

  • If you use Multi-currency in QuickBooks Online, you shouldn't convert to QuickBooks Desktop. Your data will not export correctly.
  • You need a recent version of QuickBooks Desktop installed before you start. You can download a trial to use as an alternative.
  • These steps explain how to convert to QuickBooks Desktop for Windows. You can also convert to QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.
  • You need Internet Explorer 11 installed to complete these steps.

You may want to refer to this article for the data lists that can be converted from QBO to QBDT: Data lists that can be converted from QBO to QBDT.

Once everything's set, we can now proceed with converting your data form QBO to QBDT. We will need to set up Internet Explorer for the smooth export process. Here's how:

  1. Right-click the Internet Explorer icon and choose Run as administrator.
  2. Select the Tools ⚙ icon, then Internet Options.
  3. Pick Security, then Trusted sites.
  4. Click Sites then in the Add this website to the zone field, enter *.intuit.com, and *.qbo.intuit.com.
  5. Ensure Require server verification (https: ) for all sites in this zone is unchecked.
  6. Close the Trusted Sites window then make sure Enable Protected Mode is unchecked.
  7. Hit Apply, then Okay.
  8.  Leave Internet Explorer open.

Then, you can follow the steps outlined in this article to continue the export process: How to export from QBO to QBDT?.

Once you're done, we can begin exporting the files to Excel. We can start with exporting your Chart of Accounts and Vendor lists. Below are the steps how:

  1. Go to the Vendors menu, then choose the Vendor Center.
  2. From the Excel drop-down, tap Export Vendor List.
  3. On the Export window, select Create a new worksheet: in a new workbook, then click Export.
  4. Save the Excel sheet.

After that, you can now import these data lists to Quicken. Here's how:

  1. From the File menu, choose Import.
  2. Pick Addresses, then click Tab.
  3. If the file name did not automatically populate, select Browse then locate your file. Choose Next.
  4. Hit Quicken Field, then Add.
  5. Repeat step 4 until you have selected all the fields you want to import, then select Done.

Please refer to this article for the detailed steps on how to import these data lists to Quicken: How do I import data from Excel to Quicken?.

How can I convert QBO to Quicken?

We're getting the same requests from clients now that Quickbooks went to high priced annual subscriptions. Small businesses need to work within their budget. It wasn't smart to move from under $200 every 3 or 4 years to $250-$300 every year.

You may consider purchasing the one time license for QB Desktop 2021 Pro for 3 users, Premier for 5 users, or Accountant for 10 users. Then you will distribute the license between your clients to lower their cost.

There is currently not a way to convert data from Quickbooks to Quicken. Data can be converted from Quicken to Quickbooks, however if assistance is required during that process, it can only be provided by Quickbooks support

Why not leave the fee affordable or allow a conversion to a more reasonably priced software? Without compromise, small business owners who need to respect a budget will just start new in a more affordable product causing Intuit to lose a customer.

I would recommend to convert data from QB Online to QB Desktop instead. You can use the converter tool. No need to convert manually. If you don't mind to use the trial version, you can use it for good if required.

You've to export data from QBO in a compatible format (CSV) for Quicken. Use QBO's export tool for lists (customers, vendors), transactions, and reports. Import this data into Quicken to retain records and minimize manual entry.
