I need help with loading in Backup from Quickbooks 2011 to Quickbooks 2018 and generating reports

Hello,

I am trying to restore a backup from Quickbooks 2011 into Quickbooks 2018 but encounter a problem when I try to use the 'Previous Reconciliation' report functions.

All the accounts do not match up with the reports generated.  For example if have accounts A, B, C, generating a Previous Reconciliation report account A will give me account C instead.  And when generating a report for Account B, it will give me a report for Account A.

I think I needed to convert the backup in steps, from what I read?  But I do not have trial licenses. Please help!

Hi there, @OPIRX. Let me provide some troubleshooting steps to get around this issue when running your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) reports.

One possible reason you're having issues running the Previous Reconciliation reports from a QBDT 2011 backup version is that you have restored it directly to the 2018 version instead of restoring it by a 3-year cycle.

You're correct that you'll have to convert the company file to a newer version in three years. However, please note that trial licenses aren't available for older versions since it is intended for new users to test the latest QuickBooks products.

For now, let's use QuickBooks File Doctor to fix your QBDT company file issues. Please keep in mind that this might not work since QBDT 2018 is already a discontinued version. I'll guide you on how:

  1. Make sure to close QuickBooks.
  2. Download the most recent version (1.5.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub and save the file where you can easily find it.
  3. Open the downloaded file (QuickBooksToolHub.exe). Then, follow the on-screen steps to install it.
  4. Double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool.
  5. From the tool hub, choose Company File Issues. Tap Run QuickBooks File Doctor.
  6. In QuickBooks File Doctor, select your company file from the dropdown menu. If you don’t see your file, tap Browse and search to find it.
  7. Select Check your file and then Continue.
  8. Enter your QuickBooks admin password and then hit Next.

@OPIRX

It's possible that your file is damaged. You may encounter the same error message when trying to restore the backup file on QB Desktop 2011 as well. You should contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA for assistance. They can share the trial version and/or repair your company file.

Thank you for the replies.

I tried repairing the file but it did not work.

How do I contact Fiat Lux - Asia for a trial version of 2015 Quickbooks?  I want to try this route of converting 2011 to 2015 then to 2018 Quickbooks.
