No, but if you use the QBO desktop app, it never closes itself like the browser version does. Otherwise they are mostly identical

Hi @swecollc,

Nice to see you in the Community. I'm here to help with the system logging you off.

@Malcolm Ziman has provided a good suggestion of utilizing the QuickBooks Online Desktop App, which allows you to stay logged on indefinitely. You can locate information about this, and download it, at the following link: Get QuickBooks Mac & Windows Apps, Powered by QuickBooks Online.

Another option that you may wish to consider is adjusting the time required to be signed out for inactivity, which can be changed up to 3 hours. Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon and choose Accounts and Settings.
  2. Select Advanced on the left side of the page.
  3. Click the Pencil icon that's located in the Other preferences section.
  4. Select the drop-down next to Sign me out if inactive and choose the preferred amount of time.
  5. Click Save then Done.

I've included a picture to serve as a visual reference:

For further insight into this, including how inactivity is measured, please see the following article: Change the Timeout Duration in QuickBooks Online.

That's it. I believe these resources will help you with staying signed in.

The Community is always here, so let me know if you need anything. Have a good one.

Hello there, @LusATM.

I appreciate you joining the Community today. Allow me to address your concern about adding an autosave feature in QuickBooks Online.

Currently having the autosave option in QuickBooks Online isn't available. For now, you can try the workarounds provided by Malcolm Ziman and DavidSC above.

I can see how this feature would be beneficial for you and to your business. I'd encourage you sharing this idea to our Developers so they'll be able to determine those features that needs to be added in future updates. Doing this helps them assess how we can help you run your business easier. I will also do my part and raise this concern so this will be taken cared of.

You can visit our QuickBooks Online Blog to be updated about our latest happenings. Through this, you're able to get the newest news, features, and updates about QuickBooks Online and what our Product Care Team is working on.

Please know that the Community has your back should you need anything else. Have a great day!

Just lost another hour of work because I forgot to hit save with every change. Why can't you have an autosave or a version history for estimates and invoices?

Thanks for joining this thread, @Ben Wolfram

I see how tiring it can be to add the transactions again since you forgot to click Save after making changes. The option to have a history for your estimates and invoices is currently unavailable.

We are striving to improve QuickBooks so please know that we're taking note every detail of your suggestion. Rest assured, I'll also share this along here on my end.

I'll be here to lend you a helping hand if you have other concerns, @Ben Wolfram. Have a great day.

I tried to create the same invoice six times.

Sadly the connection timed out and I kept losing the work.

There really needs to be an auto save feature .  Its impossible to work with out autosave.

The online version should have some offline features...

thanks

Hello, @asteriman.

I'd love to have the autosave feature as well in QBO. For now, you can only click the save button as you go along with your work or use the QBO app as suggested by one of our Community Backers.

Letting us know what works best for your business will show our developers what they need to consider in future product updates. In the meantime, you can check out our Product & Industry News updates to keep you in the loop as to what's new and what's coming.

Should you have other questions about our product features, do let me know. I'll be around to help.

Is there a auto save feature, several time due to interuptions, i have lost my work. is there some way to have the system save before it logs off.

It seems to me that the online program is just very frustrating.

Additionally,  since i sometimes use a chomebook, downloading the qb app is not an option.

The point to working in the cloud is to avoid downloading

Many online programs allow users to work offline... QB should do the same.   At the very least the auto  save function would save us from losing hours of work.  Truly,,it is not enough to ask users to hit the save button while doing work.    It takes one moment to forget to lose everything.

As a new user ,  I kept losing the invoice i was working on.
This doesn't happen with other programs .

So kindly let me know if you are working on an auto save function .

If you aren't, then I think i have to consider other options..

Many qb users are asking for the same thing.  This should tell you that its a problem.

Thanks for addressing my concerns

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts and feedback with us, @asteriman,

I just want you to know that I hear you, and I agree how helpful it is to have the auto-save feature in QuickBooks Online. Our developers are constantly working to meet our customer's needs and are taking note of every feedback we forward to them.

We currently don't have the information on the time it takes for them to implement this function. What's good about QuickBooks is that, it automatically rolls out an update without you downloading it manually. Email notifications are also rolled out in batches to all QBO users.

In the meantime, you can visit our QuickBooks Online Blog to be updated about our latest news and updates on what our Product Care Team is working on.

I'd encorage you to fix your f#%&ing program so it has an autosave feature.

If you can have an autologout feature why can't you have an autosave feature??? or the ability to turn off your stupid auto logout feature??

i can guarantee that my office would be more secure from someone coming in and accessing my computer to look at my accounting files than your online server is from being hacked and everyone's accounting files stolen.

This simple stuffup on QBO's behalf has just cost me double what i pay for the service yearly!! i might as well go back to creating all my docs with word or pencil and paper.

So this thread is almost a year old and the autosave issue is much older than that. I'm guessing your developers are not that challenged. They're just not addressing it. You say QBO is working on it but more than likely the majority of your users have been in the business long enough to know what PR looks like and nobody is buying that. You don't "have my back" you're not "there for me" and i don't need coddling and soothing when I have a problem with your system. The one answer I expected to see but haven't yet is that "it's for my safety or convenience". I already know that one so don't try that. Please try and make QBO intuitive for a change.

The ironic aspect of these posts about QBO needing auto-save and still not having it is that when you are typing on this forum it pops up every so often and tells you it is auto-saving your post.

This is a poor excuse! Why is this not a feature and especially why in this day in time is it not??? Lost 2 hrs of work! Get it fixed qb. This is one of the many reasons people don't recommend qb.

I just lost 3 hours of work!! Complete garbage! Get your heads out of your A$$ and create an autosave feature morons! They're too busy trying to sell you the next year of garbage they're creating to fix their junk. All they care about is the new subscribers and once they have you they drag their feet to fix anything.

I've had the same thing happen twice, only I was sitting there typing in very detailed descriptions for the estimate and searching RS Means data to validate pricing. Apparently QuickBooks does not view you adding line items to an estimate as "activity." Here is the most laughable thing, the QuickBooks forum just autosaved my reply here but in the Year Of Our Lord Two Thousand Twenty, they cannot autosave an estimate to complete on re-login if they log you out!! At MINIMUM it should at least prompt you on the alledged inactivity before it screws you over. This is a severely screwed up UX. This is basic stuff Intuit. Very basic stuff to deliver a good user experience over a crappy one.image.png

Just had the same thing. Created a big invoice only when I went to save it it logged me out and nopw all the work is lost. Why no auto save?

Such a bad program. Cancelling service for something that actually works.

Don't buy shiitbooks

I've tried changing the log off time to 3 hours, I've tried using the QBO desktop app - which is suddenly logging me off if I try to open a second window.  This is ridiculous, I was two lines away from finishing a 3 page very complicated bid when it logged me out and lost EVERYTHING!!!!!  This is the third time it has happened to me this week!  You NEED an autosave if you continue to refuse to take away the autolog off.  I have tried everything in these message boards.

I understand your frustration and also want to auto-save my entries so save time, Hampton360.

At the moment, we're still using the time duration to stay logged on in QuickBooks. While the auto-saving of transactions isn't an option, you can send a product request about this feature.

Here are the steps you can follow:

  1. Select the Gear icon at the top, then Feedback.
  2. Enter your comments or product suggestions. Then select Next to submit feedback.

Your valuable feedback goes to our Product Development team to help improve your experience in QBO. You can track feature requests through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.

I had just got to the end of a long bill input, which has taken approximately 2 hours using the desktop app. Then Quickbooks just logged me out.!!!!

I have now set the auto log off to 3 hours as suggested above, but others are saying that this still does not work...

Intuit,

Figure out autosave for online quickbooks, your service is terrible so the least you can do is create this functionality to keep us around.
