Replaced disk drive need to recover data

Hi there, @PJ9880.

Allow me to get you steered in the right direction and provide steps on how to recover data in QuickBooks Desktop.

To replace the disk drive in QBDT, I'd suggest communicating with our Technical Support. They have tools to help you with the whole replacement process.

Here's how:

  1. Go to this link: https://help.quickbooks.intuit.com/prechats/offerings/QB-Desktop-ProPremier-CHAT/22240/view.
  2. Complete the necessary information.
  3. Hit Submit

Please check out our support hours to ensure we cater to your concern quickly.

Although before interacting with them, let's recover your data first using our QuickBooks Auto Data Recovery (ADR). This feature can recover all or most of your data using your current Transactions Log file and a copy of your company file.

Please note that this feature is only available in QuickBooks Pro, Premier, and Enterprise Solution for Windows.

Here's how:

  1. Create a new folder on your Desktop named QBTest
  2. Open your company file's folder, then look for the .tlg file.
  3. Copy the .tlg file, and paste it to your QBTest you've created.
  4. Go back to your company file, then open the QuickBooksAutoDataRecovery.
  5. Copy the .QBW.adr file and paste it into the QBTest folder.
  6. Right-click the  .QBW.adr, then rename it. Make sure to delete the .adr.

After that, let's access your QuickBooks, then open the QBTest folder to verify the data. Let me guide you how:

  1. Fo to the File menu, then choose Utilities
  2. Select Verify Data to validate the data integrity of the recovered file.
  3. If everything is good, you can relocate the damaged company file to a different location. Then transfer the copy from QBTest to the original location.
