Thanks for letting us know about this, mickey.

I'm here to help install your QuickBooks Desktop to another computer successfully.

I understand that you're using the same product number which previously worked out on the wrong computer. Just to double-check, please make sure to check the following:

  • If you bought QuickBooks Desktop from our website: Look in the purchase confirmation email you received from us.
  • If you bought QuickBooks from a retail store: Look for the brightly colored sticker on the original CD envelope.

Another way to check your license and the product number is through this link: License and product numbers.

For additional details on fixing wrong product numbers for QuickBooks Desktop, check out this article: Fix errors when activating QuickBooks, or adding license and product numbers.

Once done, you can continue installing the product. Here's an article for the steps on how to install QuickBooks Desktop.

If I have Quickbooks installed on another computer, is it preventing me from installing it on a new computer by saying I have wrong product number. I've checked the Lic and Product number and they're correct

Let’s get this resolved, @mickey.

Allow me to share some information and steps so you can successfully install QuickBooks Desktop.

The previous installation isn’t preventing you from installing the program on a new computer. Sometimes the background processes or unexpected happenings during the process might be the reasons that it tells you to have an incorrect product number.

We can download the QuickBooks Tools Hub and run QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool to fix and close any open background processes that QuickBooks uses. Here’s how:

  1. Download the most recent version ( of the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  2. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it.
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
  5. Double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

Once done, please proceed to these steps below:

  1. From the Tool Hub, then select Installation Issues.
  2. Select QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool. It can take up to 20 minutes.
  3. When the tool finishes, restart your computer.

I have done all the steps you recommended to no avail. Are you certain that if my Quickbooks is still installed on another computer, I can still install the program with same Lic and Product number on another?  My plan says 1 user

Hey there, @mickey

Thanks for reaching back out to the QuickBooks Community.

Yes, you can install the program on more than one computer using the same License and Product number. Your plan is designed to allow only one person to be signed into the company file at one time.

To help resolve the message you're receiving (wrong product number), I recommend running the Clean Install tool within the tool hub. This tool fixes any company file issues that may be occurring with your account. Here's how:

Step 1: Remove QuickBooks

  1. Go to the Windows Start menu.
  2. Select the Control Panel
  3. Choose Programs and Features
  4. Click QuickBooks Desktop.
  5. Pick Uninstall/Change
  6. Hit Remove
  7. Tap Next

Step 2: Reinstall QuickBooks Desktop

When you're ready, reinstall QuickBooks Desktop

You can check out this article to help fix errors when activating QuickBooks, or adding license and product numbers

These steps of running a clean install should do the trick. I'm always here to help if the issue persists. Let me know if there's anything else I can help you with. Have a great day!

There is no Clean Install tool within the Tool Hub, only instructions on how to uninstall.  I've done all this

Thanks for joining this thread, Dante.

Let me provide insights on how to make sure you can enter the correct product number in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) company.

I suggest reviewing if your license number and product code match to make sure you'll prevent getting incorrect license/product number errors.

If you purchased QuickBooks Desktop from our website, look for your license number and product code in the email that confirmed your transaction. If you can't locate them, you can access them by logging into your Customer Account Management Portal.

If you bought QuickBooks from a retail store, you may look for the sticker on the original CD envelope.

Please check out this article for more details on fixing wrong product numbers for QBDT: Fix errors when activating QuickBooks or adding license and product numbers.

However, if you're sure with the product number yet the issue persists, I recommend contacting our Technical Support Team. One of our experts has the necessary tools to check your account securely and perform a screen-sharing session to investigate this behavior further.

Here's how you can get in touch with an agent:

  1. In QBDT, click Help.
  2. Choose QuickBooks Desktop Help or press F1 on your keyboard.
  3. Click the Contact Us button in the Have a question? window.
  4. Enter your concern in the description box and select Continue
  5. Choose either Chat with us or Have us call you

Please take note of our business hours to ensure we can attend to your needs.
