Ever since my most recent QuickBooks Pro 2018 update, this application has been starting automatically upon my logging into my Win 10 computer on which it is installed. It it doing this despite the fact that I have disabled it in the task manager startup.
Also starting is a splash screen that attempts to sell me on data services that I do not need. I have also disable that in the startup options to no avail.
I have been a satisficed QuickBook users for more than 20 years and was even a QuickBooks consultant for a number of those years. I have to tell you though the fact that I can't disable this behavior is really upsetting to the point that I'm ready to junk this software and go public with my discontent.
This isn't the kind of service that we want you to experience especially for a long time customer like you, @LHouse28.
Let me make it up by providing the steps that will fix the issue.
When you install a QuickBooks product, not only are you installing the base product but also a variety of add-ons to assist in your usage of that product, such as the QuickBooks Web Connector.
By default, the installation of the QuickBooks Web Connector enables the program to launch every time you turn on your computer. Running this program in the background if it's not needed can take up unnecessary resources.
However, we can disable this one from launching when you turn on your PC by deleting the appropriate startup entry.
That's it! Please let me know if there's anything else I can do to be of assistance. Wishing you and your business continued success in all that you do.
The instructions you supplied do no apply to Windows 10. There no longer is an "All Programs" option in the start menu. If memory serves that went away with Windows 7!
I do find in my start menu a "Web Connections" option. There is however no option to disable it, nor is there a way to uninstall it.
I started the "Web Connections" app and poked around within the app but could find no way therein to disable it. I attempted to use the uninstall option which took me to the Windows Settings list of applications to "uninstall or change" but could not find it (or anything like it) included in that list.
I rechecked the Windows Settings Startup Apps list and again confirmed that all entries in that list (Intuit Data Protect, QuickBooks and QuickBooks Update) were disabled. I also recheck the same list in the Task Manager Startup tab list and found the same thing.
I found the web connections folder within the QuickBooks fold in programs and attempted to disable the app by renaming its executable prefacing the name with an X. This did not resolve my complaint however as when I logged off the machine and the logged in again the "Intuit Data Protect" splash screen attempting to get me to try and buy that service reappeared and shortly there after QuickBooks started as well.
I could live with the time it takes for these apps to open if I had any intention to use them during my session, but since I don't they are a real annoyance and a source of frustration. What really upsets me is the fact that your developers have employed a way of deploying these apps which circumvents my ability using the operating system to disable and remove them.
Hi,
I totally agree with @Calhoun . It is really annoying to have this application startup and consume resources when none of my customers use it and I have not found a way to disable it on Windows 10 or Windows Server 2016 and up.
Please @ReymondO provide clear steps for Windows 10 and Windows Servers 2016 and up to properly disable the QB Web Connector from the start up or even better to uninstall it if it is not used by the end user.
Thanks!
Good afternoon, @ERijo.
Thanks for joining this thread.
At this time, QuickBooks Desktop doesn't offer an option to disable the QuickBooks Web Connector. I'm going to submit feedback to our Product Development Team to review and consider making this an option soon.
For now, there's an option to uninstall the web connector, and here's how:

Hi @Kendra H
Thanks so much for the quick reply and the details on removing QBWebConnector, but it didn't work.
In my case on Windows Server 2016, I found the QBWebConnector folder in "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\" and did the following:
Please see attached image of my server after deleting the folder and rebooting the server.

When I followed this set of instructions to stop QuickBooks from loading automatically upon startup (along with 'script error' messages on Intuit Data Protect), I di not see an option to select "Web Connector " and therefore, I could ot fix the problems. I am running QuickBooks Pro 2020 on a Windows 10 computer. This is extremely frustrating. Any new suggestions?
