Hi, Can anyone tell me what a backup error message 1071 is?
Thanks
Barbara
Hey there, Barbara @bryan123.
It's nice to see you in the Community. I'm here to share some information about the error you're getting in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
Are you trying to run the Intuit Data Protect (IDP) backup? If so, this error may occur when there is a Firewall or connection issue. To isolate this, let's perform some troubleshooting steps that can help us fix this.
To start off, let's run the IDP Diagnostic tool. This will detect if there's an issue with a firewall or third-party security software. Then, make sure to add Windows Firewall ports and Trusted sites.
To run the tool, here's how:
1. On your computer, right-click on the IDP icon (green padlock) at the bottom of the screen and select About Intuit Data Protect.
2. On your keyboard, press Ctrl+F2 to launch the tool, then click Run Diagnostics. If it detects an issue, you need to reconfigure the software and/or hardware to allow access to IDP files. For information about configuring your security software and/or hardware, check your manufacturer’s website.
3. Then, add the following files for exceptions:
To add Windows Firewall ports:
1. Go to the Start menu on your computer and type Control Panel in the search field.
2. On the System and Security, pick Windows Firewall, then click Advanced Settings.
3. On the left panel, select Inbound Rules and choose New Rule from the right side of the same window.
4. Enter the ports, then select Next (Incoming Port: 80, Outgoing Ports: 443, 16841).
To Add Trusted sites:
1. Open your Internet Explorer (IE) and go to the Tools menu, then select Internet Options.
2. On the Security tab, uncheck the Enable Protected Mode box.
3. Choose Trusted sites, then Sites and uncheck the Require server verification.
4. Add *.backup.com, *.intuit.com, and *.intuit.net, then Close.
5. Now, go to the Privacy tab, then pick Sites.
6. In the Address of Website box, add the following websites: *.quickbooks.com and *.intuit.com, then choose Allow each time you add the web addresses.
7. Click OK.

Same problem for me with data protect backend error 1071 notice. Help!!
Hi Fritz,
I have the same problem. I've run the diagnostics and all elements passed except the test backup. My Windows firewall is configured correctly; the correct files are set as trusted sites; and I've exited and signed back into Intuit Data Protect. I also reinstalled QB 2019 Pro and ensured IDP is updated. Nothing has helped.
My last successful online backup was yesterday. As of today, it's not working. I haven't changed any settings. Any ideas for me?

I checked if there's an ongoing issue about this, but there isn't currently one. Since the persists after performing all the troubleshooting steps, I highly recommend contacting our Phone Support team.
They are able to pull up your account using their screen-sharing (remote access) tool in a secure environment and further investigate. They can also perform other troubleshooting steps to fix this for you.
Here's how to reach them:
Just in case, I'll be adding these articles for future reference:

Hi guys,
I'm no expert but when I got this one today I realized that my server ran a big update last night. I imagine it rebooted itself at some point in order to finish it, and probably right in the middle of my scheduled backup.
It was mean and didn't care. :)
I came looking to see if this error was something else but all my settings are correct as well and it's run properly hundreds of times. If it was a connection issue, that's my guess?
Guess I'll find out tonight!
