Changing Default Browser in QB Desktop

Thanks for joining us here today, @ericjohnson602.

I'll share some information about changing the default internal browsers. Internet Explorer 11 is the current browser for QuickBooks Desktop, but as of June 15, 2022, Microsoft will no longer support it. Last June 10, 2022, all supported versions of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) will begin to use our new custom browser. All you have to do is update to the latest release.

Since you've already updated your QuickBooks, check if you have Released 15 (R15) in the program. Let me guide you how to check.

  1. On your keyboard, press Function 2 (F2).
  2. A Product Information window will open, you can see the release at the very top.

If you don't have it yet, proceed with the manual update. Refer to this article for the step-by-step instruction: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

Once finishes, restart your computer to install the update.

Additionally, you check this link to learn more about our built-in browser and its technical specifications: Use out built-in browser in QuickBooks Desktop.

Feel free to leave a comment below if you have follow-up questions or concerns with QuickBooks' default browser. I'll be around to help. Have a great day!

Changing Default Browser in QB Desktop

I am running QB Pro 2021 R10P and Loan Manager does not work.  it is still looking for IExplorer.  I have a number of loans loaded and I can not access any information on them.  I contacted tech support a couple weeks ago and they said they are working on it.  Has this been solved?

I know that this hasn't been easy for you, JISAINC.

Before anything else, I appreciate the effort you've spent in trying to get rid of the Loan Manager.

As of now, our engineers are still working hard to rectify this situation as soon as possible.

In the meantime, you'll want to consider visiting our QuickBooks App Market to find a third-party loan management application that best suit your business needs. I'm also adding this article to learn how to manually set up accounts for your loans, and manually track them in QBDT: Manually track loans.

If you need more help in accomplishing your other tasks, please don't hesitate to tag me in your comments and posts. I'll be more than happy to assist you again.

@JISAINC

Have you removed your IE 11 on your machine? Or is it still available but you encounter that error message?

IE11 was removed via a windows update

The only third party option in the market place is $999 per year which is simply insane.

@jn5300

Any specific concern?

QB appears to think there's no browser imbedded.

Started when I had to switch to new Chase connection. Appears Chase doesn't interface with IE. But that's supposedly removed. So how do you change QB to use a different browser?

@jn5300  If you have updated to the latest release and you are using QB 2020 or later, QB definitely has an imbedded browser that is NOT IE.  The embedded browser used to be IE, but it has been replaced (in early summer 2022) by a custom browser designed by Intuit.  Try re-downloading the entire update.  Remember to close QB, reboot, then restart and install the update.

@JISAINC Someone else suggested copying the IE executable file from an older operating system (like Windows 10) installing it on the Windows 11 machine.  The odd thing is, I have clients running QB 2021 on a Windows 11 machine.  It isn't perfect, but it does run.

More odd now.

Because I needed to get transactions updated, I downloaded OBO from Chase. Then out of curiosity, I tried to update thru bank feed and browser appeared. But it goes to Chase website and says you need to download a browser.

I can't be the only one with an issue with the new Chase Bank interface.

@jn5300 It really does sound like your update didn't take.  Go to Help: Update QuickBooks Desktop: Update Now: Check the box to Reset Update and click on Get Updates.  After downloading, close the program and reboot, then reopen QB and Install the update.

Current release numbers for each version of QuickBooks Desktop:

  • QuickBooks 2023 R1_15
  • QuickBooks 2022 R5_150
  • QuickBooks 2021 R10_52
  • QuickBooks 2020 R15_49

Will try again, I'm on R10_52

I think this is a Chase- QB interface issue but we'll see

@jn5300 Sometimes, if you download the QBO file and then import it, the bank feeds will start working.  Also, for Chase, you may need to use Express Mode and be logged in to your Intuit account, which you can check by looking at the upper right corner to see if it says logged out.  It should say your name or your business name and have a green dot.

Changing Default Browser in QB Desktop

Hi, jn5300. Joining this thread to share additional information you need about the default browser and find the name and green dot within your company file.

The custom browser is available in QuickBooks Desktop Pro/Premier/Enterprise/Accountant, released in 2020, 2021, and 2022. As advised, we can update your QuickBooks to the latest version to get this done. I'll show you how:

  1. Go to the Downloads & Updates page.
  2. Select the country, product, & version and click the Search button.
  3. Click the Get the latest updates link.
  4. After downloading the updates, navigate to the Downloads folder of your computer. Then, double-click the update file to initiate the installation process.
  5. Follow the prompts on the screen to install the updates.
  6. Restart your computer after the update is installed successfully.

If the same thing happens, please contact us so we can check your account and figure out why it's not showing on your end. To contact us, open QuickBooks Desktop and click the Help menu. Then, select QuickBooks Desktop Help.

Since you're unsure what bank feed modes you're using now, we can go to Preferences to review your setup. It helps you see your name and green dot shared in this thread. Here's how:

  1. Be sure to upgrade QuickBooks to the most recent version.
  2. Be in single-user mode before switching modes. To switch between modes, go to the QuickBooks File menu, then select Switch to Single-user Mode/Switch to Multi-user Mode.
  3. Go to EditPreferences> Checking> Company Preferences.
  4. In the Bank Feeds section, review the setup. If it needs to change, select Express Mode/ Advanced Mode/Classic Mode.
  5. Then, click OK.

I have gathered a few articles about handling bank transactions. Feel free to check them:

If you have more questions about the built-in browser, bank transactions, and anything related to QuickBooks, know that we're here to help you anytime. Take care.

@jn5300 A whole bunch of stuff actually happened at the same time as QBDT switching to an Intuit-specific internal browser.  Chase and Capital One made some changes to the way they download.  If you are on the correct release, I would begin by downloading the update from the Intuit website and reinstalling, then close QB, reboot, and reopen and install.  See @SarahannC 's post above.  Then DISCONNECT your Chase Bank feed and set it up using the Bank Chase Bank All New.  Then review this article about the bank changes:  https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/bank-connectivity/refresh-connection-....  Then you may need to call support.  To see if you are logged in to your Intuit account, look here:  Capture.JPG

Did all of the above and still no go. Chase doesnt recognize the QB browser - says it right on their website.
