converting company file from Windows (QB Pro 2016) to a Mac version (QB for Mac 2021)

QB said "You can convert any company file to a Mac version from a U.S. versions of QuickBooks Simple Start, Pro, Premier, and Premier Accountant Edition for the same year as your version of QuickBooks Desktop Mac or the two previous years. So if you have QuickBooks Desktop Mac 2020, you can convert your file from QuickBooks for Windows 2018, 2019, and 2020."

Question is: can I covert my company's file from QB Pro 2016 (Windows) to QB for Mac 2021(for Mac)?

Install the trial license of QBD 2021 Pro edition to convert your file then migrate it to QBD 2021 Mac.

Hello,

Thank you for your answer. Actually I used QB Pro 2016 to Convert the Files for QB for Mac.

The statement from intuit staff that mentioned 2 year different is not valid.

Cheers.

Follow these steps:

1. Open your company file on QBD 2016 and create a backup copy (QBB)

2. Install the trial license of QBD 2021 Pro

3. Restore the QBB file

4. Migrate the restored file to QBD Mac 2021 file format.

Have you tried those steps above?

I was just doing this, converting a company file from Windows (QB Pro 2016) to a Mac version (QB for Mac 2020), when it informed me that since I use multi-currencies, I cannot convert it. Does this mean QB for Mac 2020 can't handle multi-currencies? That seems very odd.....is there any way I can remove the foreign currencies in my file so that I can convert it? In the end, my bookkeeping is all in USD.

Yes, this is right, RuthTranslator.

QuickBooks Desktop for Mac does not support multi-currencies, making it unable to import a QuickBooks Desktop company file that uses this feature. See about converting a QuickBooks for Windows file to QuickBooks for Mac and go the Data that isn’t converted from Windows to QuickBooks Desktop for Mac section for more information.

As for removing other currencies or disabling the Multicurrency feature, we're unable to do this in QuickBooks Desktop.

What I can suggest is to continue using the Windows version and upgrade it. If you no longer have a Windows computer, you can seek help from an IT professional to use the Windows version on Mac using programs like Parallels. However, this is beyond our support. I'm just making suggestions so you can still use your company file. You can also look for third-party apps that are capable of removing the Multicurrency feature in QuickBooks Desktop.

If you have other questions about converting your company file, please don't hesitate to go back to this thread.

You can use a Quickbooks multi-currency removal service to remove multiple currencies and then convert to QB for Mac.

@RuthTranslator

Consider purchasing a multi currency removal service.
