converting QB 2011 for Windows to QB 2015 for Mac

Hi there, @fhall55.

Allow me to provide some information about converting a file from the QuickBooks 2011 version for Windows to the 2015 version for Mac.

Since you're using the QuickBooks 2015 version for Mac, this isn't already supported. QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) has a 3-year life cycle. Thus, 2017 below versions aren't supported.

Just in case you want to convert your company file to a newer version, you must meet several system requirements of your Mac computer for a smooth transition.

Also, both subscriptions should have the same year version to successfully convert your file. You'll want to temporarily download a free trial link for QuickBooks Desktop 2020 for Windows prior to the conversion.

After setting things up, follow the steps in this article to upgrade your QuickBooks 2011 to 2020: Upgrade your company files after switching to a new version of QuickBooks Desktop.

Once done, you can proceed to convert your Windows company file to a Mac file:

  1. Start with Updating QuickBooks Desktop for Windows to the latest release.
  2. Open the company file in QuickBooks Desktop for Windows.
  3. Re-sort lists.
  4. Then, Rebuild and Verify your company file data.
  5. Go to the File menu, then select Utilities and choose Copy Company File for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.
  6. Save the file in your desired location. This creates a file with the extension MAC.qbb.
  7. Send the copy to the Mac computer using your preferred method, such as a DVD, external hard drive, flash drive, FTP web site.

Then, restore the file using QuickBooks Desktop for Mac:

  1. In the No Company Open window, click on Browse and locate the file you want to restore.
  2. If your QuickBooks Windows file is on an external drive, save it locally by dragging it to the desired location before restoring it to avoid data corruption.
  3. QuickBooks will ask if you want to restore a QuickBooks Desktop for Windows file, just select OK.
  4. Enter a name for the restored file and then choose Save.

I'm adding this article for more details: Convert a QuickBooks for Windows file to QuickBooks for Mac.
