I'm having difficulty with the software saving changes. Especially when reclassifying transfers. Am I doing something wrong? How do I save progress???

For context, I reclassify a transfer (with or without the match), go back to the dashboard to see if the qb a/c balance had changed and it hasn't. Go back to the transaction, and its unchanged (as in it wasn't reclassified). Help!!!

My main goal is to help you reclassify transfers in your account, usertrevor. It will maintain precise financial records and ensure that transactions are categorized correctly for reporting and analysis purposes.

Beforehand, did you receive an error message when reclassifying transactions? Any details would help us resolve the issue.

When you reclassify a transfer, ensure you select the appropriate categories or accounts for both sides. After reclassification, QuickBooks Online (QBO) saves changes automatically. Then, check the dashboard or account summary to ensure balances have been updated correctly. Changes may not appear instantly due to syncing or update intervals.

If changes aren't visible, refresh the page or log out and back in. Also, ensure you have the necessary permissions to modify and reclassify transactions.

However, if everything is fine, let's perform basic troubleshooting steps. Too much historical data is stored in your cache and cookies, which speeds up loading times for frequently visited websites. Clearing it should solve the issue.

First, access your account through an incognito window to rule out the possibility of a webpage issue. You can refer to these shortcut keys to open an incognito window in all supported browsers:

  • Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

Once done, reclassify transfers again. If it works, switch back to your regular browser. Then, clear its cache. This way, you can access QuickBooks with a clean slate. You can also use a different supported one.

For more details, see this link: Reclassify or move multiple transactions.

Additionally, an accountant with a supported version can perform the process on your behalf. Users with this access have additional privileges to undo bulk reconciliation, reclassify transactions, and write off invoices. You can use this link to invite your accountant: Add accountant users.

There are specific steps an accountant needs to perform under the Accountant Tools to reclassify transactions. For more details, refer to this article: Reclassify your client's transactions.

Moreover, pull up balance sheet reports by class or location to know which part of the transaction QuickBooks gets the data from. It'll help you determine the accuracy of your data.

If you have any additional questions concerning reclassifying transactions, don't hesitate to leave a comment below. I frequently hang around in this area of the Community.
