Latest QBs Desktop 2019 & 2020 corrupting our client's accountant's copies.

When we try to work inside of client's accountant's copies stored either on our client pc desktops or the servers, the file becomes corrupted and closes. Just started happening after the most recent QBs Update.

Latest QBs Desktop 2019 & 2020 corrupting our client's accountant's copies.

Thanks for getting back to us, @OhioCPAGoBucks.

We received reports regarding users getting the same error message when working in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). A ticket has already been created and forwarded to our Product Engineers. They're now investigating and working to fix this issue as quickly as possible.

In the meantime, I suggest contacting our Phone Support team so they can add your details to our notification list. This will help our Engineers determine the number of affected users. An email will be sent to you once this has been resolved. I'll also inform you here when we get the update as well.

To reach them, you can follow the steps shared by my colleague above or refer to this article: Contact QuickBooks Desktop support.

Feel free to leave a comment in this thread if you have any other concerns or issues. I want to make sure everything is taken care of for you. I'll be here to assist. Have a good one!

Thanks for following up with the Community, OhioCPAGoBucks.

My colleague's recommendation to utilize our QuickBooks Tool Hub is going to be the best troubleshooting step to take in such a scenario. I'd be more than happy to go over some of the things it can be used to troubleshoot.

Here's a list:

  • Program issues
  • Company files
  • Network problems
  • Error messages
  • Installations

It can also be used for password resets. To download a copy and confirm which tab(s) you'll want to use, you can review the Fix common problems and errors article in MirriamM's post.

If your client's file remains corrupted/continues corrupting and closing when trying to work with it, you'll want to get in touch with our Customer Care Team. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.

They can be reached while using the tool hub:

  1. In your left navigation menu, go to Support.
  2. Choose an appropriate Message Us option.

You'll be able to find many useful resources about using QuickBooks Desktop Accountant in our help article archives.

I'll be here to help if there's any additional questions. Enjoy the rest of your day!

To Clarify, this is not a single file issue, it occurs whenever anyone in our firm opens an accountant's copy inside of a recently updated version of QuickBooks (regardless of whether the client's copy is updated before it's transferred to us). I believe there to be a glitch in the update itself disallowing any changes inside of an accountant's copy without receiving this error.

I’ve check here on my end and the ticket is already tag as closed. Since you’re still experiencing this issue, I recommend updating your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to the latest release.

This error is caused by QuickBooks 2020 and QuickBooks 2021 integration. Updating the program is the quick fix. Let me show you how:

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Go to the Update Now tab.
  4. Select Get Updates to start the download.
  5. Restart QuickBooks When the download finishes,
  6. Accept the option to install the new release.

You can also refer to this article for more details: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

In case you run into some issues while using the Accountant File Transfer Service (ACFT), you can refer to this link for the complete guidelines: Troubleshoot Accountant File Transfer service issues.

Let me know if you need further assistance managing your accountant’s copy, I’ll be around ready to lend a hand. Have a good one and keep safe.

Hello Jasro,

I've updated repeatedly using the steps you've indicated and it still doesn't work consistently. Is it possible that our clients will need to update their QuickBooks on their end before generating the accountant's copy transfer file?

Thanks!
