QB locks up

My QB file locks up when I try and reconcile my account. How do I fix this?  I've reloaded QB to my computer and ran the diagnostic tool.  No luck.

Welcome to the Community, @js2020.

Your QBWUSER.ini file may be missing, thus the reason why QuickBooks Desktop stops working. If this is the case, you can resolve this by renaming the file. Once you rename the file, it'll erase the list of your previously opened company files. You'll need to re-open your company file manually.

Here's how to rename the file:

  1. Open the folder where the QBWUSER.ini file is saved:  \Users\[Your user name]\AppData\Local\Intuit\QuickBooks [year]If you can't see the folder, you might need to enable hidden files and folders.
  2. Right-click the QBWUSER.ini file and select Rename.
  3. Add .old at the end of the file name (as in QBWUSER.ini.old).
  4. Rename the EntitlementDataStore.ecml file.
  5. Reopen QuickBooks Desktop.

You can refer to this article for more details: What to do if you can't open QuickBooks Desktop.

If the issue persists after renaming the file, you can run the clean install or create a new Windows Admin User as suggested in the link.

Keep me posted if there's anything else I can do for you. I'm here to help however I can. Have a good one.

Sadly that didn't work.  I can input entries and pull reports.  I just can't reconcile.  It completely locks me up when I try and reconcile.  Doesn't give me my option to add balances, etc.  I have to reboot to get out.  I reinstalled my program, still nothing.  Thoughts?  Thanks.

Thanks for getting back to us, @js2020.

To isolate this, we can reconcile using a sample file. If QBDT didn't lock up, let's run the rebuild and verify data utilities. These tools clean, repair, and notify you of data damage within the file.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the File menu, then select Utilities.
  2.  Choose Rebuild Data.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Follow the pop-up window to save a backup.
  5. Click OK when you see Rebuild has completed.

Once done, you can proceed with verifying the data:

  1. Click on File.
  2. Select on Utilities.
  3. Click on Verify Data.
  4. If you see QuickBooks detected no problem with your data, select OK. You may continue using your company file.

You can also check out these articles to learn more about data damage:

Once done, try reconciling again to double-check.

Still no luck.  My file seems to be working perfectly otherwise.  Just the locking up when I try and reconcile.  It doesn't shut down, just locks up.  It's so strange.  It was working perfectly then just stopped.  Is there maybe a read-only option that might make this happen?  Thanks.

I've downloaded and paid for the update last May 2021.  However, taxes are not computed in my payroll

Hi @ronicor. I can help you configure your QuickBooks Desktop Payroll to calculate taxes.

I see that you've already downloaded the latest tax table and paid your taxes last May 2021. For QuickBooks to calculate taxes, let's update it again today and download the latest payroll tax table.

Once done, you'll have to check the payroll items on each employee's paycheck.

Here's how:

  1. In the top menu bar, select Lists then Payroll Item List.
  2. Right-click the deduction you want to verify and select Edit Payroll Item.
  3. Click Next until the Gross vs. Net screen.
  4. Verify that the selection is correct.
  5. Click Next until you can click Finish.
  6. Click Finish.

Let me know how it goes about fixing your payroll tax calculations. I'd always be delighted to help. Take care.
