The problems: I have four company files. Any time I try and display a report, QuickBook entirely crashes. I also cannot open any of my accounts, including my checking account. Clicking on it results with nothing happening.
After hours of troubleshooting, it's not any of the data files. I've successfully installed QuickBooks Desktop Premier 2020 on my second computer and it's not having any of these problems with my company files.
However, I need to get QB running properly again on my main computer system. I've repaired/uninstalled & reinstalled the application (several times)/run the Repair Tool on the installation. Nothing works. My Windows 10 Pro 64 Version 1909 OS Build 18363.959 is completely up-to-date.
How do I entirely uninstall QuickBooks on this system and reinstall as if it had never been on this computer? I think that will do the trick -- it did on my other computer. Each time I reinstall, it finds my license info so I know not everything is being removed from the uninstall.
Or I'm open to other ideas on how to resolve this. I'm desperate for a solution after 6 hours working on this and trying to work with their chat tech support to no avail.
Screenshot is the error when I run a P&L report. Not much I can show in a screenshot of not being able to load the check register. I click on it over and over again and no window appears.
I'd like to share a solution, MikeBrooks.
If you're getting this error when you log in using the Admin, let's run the QuickBooks File Doctor from the QuickBooks Tool Hub. This helps fix common errors. Before you start, please make sure to close QuickBooks by going to File > Exit.
Once done with the File Doctor, try to run the Profit & Loss report. If you're still getting the same error, you'll want to follow the other solutions in this article: Unrecoverable Error: General Troubleshooting Steps.
Please let me know if you're able to run the Profit & Loss report. I'm just a few clicks away to help you some more. Thanks.
Unfortunately, this has not fixed my issue. I have installed QuickBooks and my files on another computer and all seem to be working fine there. All attempts at fixing the installation on my primary computer (repair, uninstalling/reinstalling, QB Hub Utility Installation Fix).
I really need to get this resolved and am at a loss on how to proceed. I even reverted my Windows back from a backup from a month ago. All of the functionality was restored TEMPORARILY and then stopped working again. Symptoms of the issue:
1. Cannot open anything from Chart of Accounts (including check register)
2. Cannot run any reports without QB completely crashing.
This happens on all four of my company accounts as well as the sample business account I downloaded.
The only thing I have not tried to do is create a second Windows User account on this system. That would be problematic for how I use my computer.
I've tried all of these solutions and none have worked. The only thing that seems to be working is that I installed QB on another computer and all is operating well there. I'm having no other software or computer issues except with QB on my primary computer system.
I have done a repair, uninstall/reinstall, QB Hub File Doctor Installation Repair, and nothing has worked.
I even restored my computer from a backup of a month ago. That temporarily allowed me to work with QB and then it stopped functioning properly again. The symptoms:
1. Unable to open any account on Chart of Accounts (including check register).
2. Running any report crashes QB.
This happens in all of my company files, including the sample business QBW file I downloaded. The only solution I have not tried is to create a second user account on my computer. That would be problematic in how I use my computer and I would hope there is another way to fix this issue with the QB software.
I am having the exact same problem. I have tried repairing and reinstalling. It will work for a few minutes fine and then I will change companies or close and reopen and when I go to run a report it crashes. None of the other computers in my office are having this problem. Very frustrating.
Let me add some information about this issue.
Currently, our product engineers are investigating with opening accounts in COA and running reports in QuickBooks. Please know that they are working sorting this out in no time. The case code is INV-49965, wherein customers get the Unrecoverable error and unable to open the accounts in COA.
In the meantime, I'd suggest reaching to our Care Support Team to add your account to the investigation. This way, you'll get notified once we've fixed opening the registers in COA and running reports.
Also, as I've checked about this issue, our fellow QuickBooks Champ and other users shared a fix, too, by running QuickBooks with admin privileges. To do this, find and right-click the QB icon on your desktop or Start menu, then select Run as administrator.
If the hurdle persists, I'd recommend running QuickBooks as Administrator and then open the company file under a new or different Windows user. If another Windows user doesn't exist, you can create one using instructions found on Microsoft's website.
Feel free to post a comment here if you need further assistance, or tag me (@Jovychris_A). I'll keep my notifications open. Stay safe and well!
Thanks for acknowledging this as an issue that is being worked on and investigated. I've tried online chat support and they had me jumping through hoops for hours that didn't fix anything. Also, their instructions on how to contact telephone support are inaccurate. I follow them and what I see in QuickBooks 2020 does not match.
I will try and run as an administrator. My latest idea to try and fix was to update to Windows 10 Build 2004 so that is currently in the process of running.
I've had enough with your online chat care team who asked to troubleshoot this with me "for a minimal fee" in my last chat. Happy to share my transcript of that. How may I reach out to you privately so that I can give you all of my information and have me added to the list of people notified when there is more information on an update?
Currently, we're unable to access your account here in the Community privately. To securely add you to the list to get a notification update, you can use this URL to quickly chat our Care Support team: intuit.me/qbdt.
They have tools to pull up your account and get you added to the list of people who'll get notified. It's for free, and you won't get charged when chatting with them.
To get in touch with them at your most convenient time, you can check our support hours before reaching them.
You can follow the link provided by RenjolynC about how to troubleshoot Unrecoverable Error, @gconsult. However, if it persists, I'd recommend following the troubleshooting steps I've said above this thread. I've added links for references as well in quickly navigating the solutions.
I'm so happy that you're able to keep moving, @Spinflyer. This way, you can now get back with the work well with your tasks.
Additionally, you can utilize the Search box to the QuickBooks Community page to search for topics that are alike with your concerns. You also use the tabs there for "How do I" topics, training and get started with QuickBooks.
Keep me posted if you need further assistance. I'm always here to guide you. Have a great day and more power to each one of you!
Having the exact same problem. Had it on 2018 Premier Accountant. Upgraded to 2020 Accountant and all seemed well for a little while. Now having same problem on 2020. Whatever y'all have broken is something that crosses versions.
I know this wasn't an easy process for you, @pmaccpa.
As mentioned by my colleague, our developers are already working to resolve this case. Meanwhile, you can run the software QuickBooks Desktop as a workaround for you to be able to log in without issues.
I also recommend contacting our Phone Support Team so you’ll be listed to the affected users. That way, you’ll get notified once the issue is resolved.
I’m adding here a link where you can search for articles whenever you have other concerns with QuickBooks Desktop. Help article.
Please let me know if you have any other questions. I am always here to help. Keep safe.
Thank you. i may have mis-communicated. I'm having no trouble "logging in." I have exact symptoms as original poster. I can open and access company files in QB Premier Desktop. But once loaded, many actions - such as show bank register - do nothing. But opening any report crashes the entire application.
What i hoped to "add" to the conversation was that i first experienced in QB Acct 2018. Thinking the program might be an issue, i uninstalled and laid down a fresh QB Acct 2020. Worked fine for a few minutes, then developed exact same behavior.
Hello again, pmaccpa. Thanks for clarifying things out.
We recently received report about the Unrecoverable error as an ongoing issue in QuickBooks Desktop and our engineers are diligently working to fix this as soon as possible. I'd suggest performing the steps provided by Jovychris_A as a workaround which is to run QuickBooks with admin privileges. To do this, find and right-click the QB icon on your desktop or Start menu, then select Run as administrator.
Moreover, to include you to the list of affected users, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Team. Here's how:
I appreciate your patience while we work on a fix. If there's anything else I can do for you concerning QuickBooks, let me know by commenting below. I'd be more than happy to help. Take care.
I've learned that the culprit for this issue is RoboForm! The latest update of RoboForm introduced this issue. If you uninstall RoboForm (or uninstall and go back to a previous version - or a future version that fixes this), the problems with QuickBooks will disappear.
Run as Administrator also continues to be a working solution.
So spent over 31/2 hours with Intuit and did it all...like others when I went to P&Lreports in my QB Premier 2019 version, I got the irrecoverable error message and I couldn’t access my checking accounts...while I hear about the work around others are doing... I am reading and hearing that it simply has to with the Windows 10 2004 update which was downloaded on my computer today. MS and Intuit are at odds about the “bug” fixes leaving us caught in the middle with an app that won’t work...it is clear something in this update corrupted the software as the Intuit tech said ...”MS corrupted components not allowing QB files to open properly“ I am working with a great MS tech who is remotely cleaning up this update for me but I am fearful my business accounts are up a creek until these two companies get their act together to resolve patches, drivers or? ...that has caused these problem...and get a fix done now...many users are affected and it requires we raise a loud stink about it so fixes are done IMMEDIATELY! My business can’t wait for them to dilly dally...
Intuit Office of the President escalated my QB issue to Desktop management...great experience...found out that after Windows 10 2004 update my third party app Roboform (which also wasn’t working correctly) was not allowing my QB files to open correctly...my QB shut down on 9/11...frank discussion with desktop clarified that developers were “scratching their head” on the issue until they found flaw in Roboform build...Roboform became aware and put out update build 8.9.3 on 9/15...I updated Roboform...restart...and QB working flawlessly...Bravo Sasan...Bravo Desktop Management...Bravo for this fix...here is the more detailed fix link:
I have not had any success using QB on my primary computer since July. After extensive chat help, I too was offered more help for a fee. Not happy with that at all. Tried all the standard fixes. Won't open as an administrator either. Can run QB on alternate computer. It's not convenient or desirable. Very frustrated! As a long time QB user, I have been surprised at the lack of support and the inability to fix a debilitating problem.
