Since we are being forced to switch from QB2020 desktop for mac (the most recent update blocks the ability to manually import a qbo file) I need to explore the functionality of QB online simple start.
If I sign up for Simple Start,
1) will I be able to import my current QB2020 desktop for mac files into it?
2) will I be able to download transactions directly from my bank? If not, will I be able to manually import a qbo file downloaded to my hard drive into Simple Start?
3) Same question with Credit Card transactions.
Hi there, @gatehealing.
I understand the need to migrate from QuickBooks Desktop 2020 to QuickBooks Online. I'll address your questions one by one to ensure you choose the plan that best suits your need.
For your first question, you can import the desktop for Mac files into QuickBooks Online. Just make sure to condense your file if it contains more than 350,000. I'll show you how:
The Bank Feeds setup doesn't move to QuickBooks Online. It includes being unable to download transactions, send online payments, or online transfers. This is because QuickBooks Desktop 2020 is no longer supported.
Therefore, you cannot download bank and credit card transactions into QuickBooks Online. You'll want to consider contacting its Support Team for assistance in setting up and transferring your data. Rest assured we'll do what we can to help you get back to business.
Visit this page for the plans and pricing: Intuit QuickBooks. Features, discounts, and FAQs are shown there.
If you'd like to import transactions manually, refer to this article: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.
If you have other questions, add them below. I'll be here to answer them for you. Have a great day.
If I have manually imported my bank's qbo files so that all transactions are showing in my journal/register, then shouldn't that port over to Simple Start?
Hello there,
As my colleague mentioned above, migration is not possible anymore for discontinued product versions. However, if you're to avail of the supported versions, yes, ideally, it will port over.
You can browse the QBO help page if you need more ideas about managing your bank transactions. It includes helpful steps and video tutorials that you can follow.
Feel free to post here again if you have further QuickBooks-related concerns. We are available 24/7 to lend a hand with each of your queries. Stay safe!
Wait, you collegue said,

Then they listed the steps to do so. So are you saying they are incorrect? Or are you saying that if I do purchase the $9/mo QBOL Smart Start that I WILL be able to transfer in my data from QBDT2020 mac to QBOL Smart Start?
If I do QBOLss, will I be able to download transactions directly from my bank?
If not, will I be able to download a qbo file to my computer then manually import it to QBOLss?
If my 2023 data up to now cannot port over, then will I be able to just download Jan 2023 - now, or download a qbo file with that date range and manually import it?
Please be specific as I am not super tech savvy.
Jon
Hello there, @gatehealing.
Thank you for getting back to us. I'm happy to share with you the steps in getting the transactions from your bank statements by manually importing them into QuickBooks Online (QBO).
In doing this, you'll have to restore the QuickBooks Desktop 2020. First off, you can download a trial version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) then, restore the file, then create a backup file.
Then, install a trial version of QBDT, restore the backup file, then create a new backup.
Once done, you can now restore the new backup file to your QBDT Pro 2020.
Also, please know that it's important that your computer is compatible with QuickBooks to utilize the program smoothly.
I recommend contacting our support team for assistance setting up and transferring your data. This way, they can provide the correct codes to use when installing the trial version of QBDT 2021. They can also guide you through the steps of installing QBDT and migrating the company files to QuickBooks Online (QBO).
We can now upload the transactions manually in QBO. To do that, please refer to Step 4 in this article: Manually upload transactions into QuickBooks Online.

Which MacOS do you run?
2019 MacBook Pro, OS13.4
I still am using QBDT 2020 mac . . . not sure if I need to restore? I am actively using it right now, just manually typing in each transaction.
You are running QBD 2020 on Ventura, correct? Install the trial version for QBD 2021 to upgrade your data and convert it to QBO.
Yes, Ventura. Ok, that makes more sense . . . I couldn't figure out why I'd download a trial of what I already have.
Thanks!
Jon
Contact me in private and we can share the trial version for QBD 2021 if required.
I'm here to clear out your confusion, gatehealing.
Yes, you can move your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2020 files to QuickBooks Online Simple Start. To understand how your books were moved, I recommend browsing this article: Learn how Features and Data Move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.
If you're ready, you can start migrating your company data. Once done, you’ll receive an email confirmation that can take up to 12 hours.
I've also added this article that'll help you learn more about the steps you should take after moving your file to ensure your data is ready to go: What to do After you Migrate to QuickBooks Online.
In addition, you can connect your bank and credit accounts to QuickBooks Online. After that, the program will automatically download your transactions every night. If you can’t find your bank and credit but still want to add your transactions, you can manually upload them.
Aside from manually importing bank data, you can also import your other data from Excel to QuickBooks Online.

Please keep us posted if you have additional questions or concerns about moving your books. We want to ensure the migration process is seamless.
Thx! While I can download the transactions or manually import them for now, I am concerned that Intuit will drop this product at some point and I'll lose the ability to bring in files either via the internet or downloading and then importing a qbo file. If this happens, will I be locked into a higher price, or will I stay with this one, and the upgrades are included?
Thanks for replying back here in the Community and updating us with your further queries, @gatehealing.
While there is no further information as to whether QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2020 will be totally dropped out from Intuit or not, the thing that I can assure you as of the moment is you can still move your QBDT MAC 2020 files to QuickBooks Online. You can follow the steps provided by my colleagues above for the process.
However, since the product is already discontinued, its ability is already limited. If you have issues, you won't have access to live technical support or any of the additional Intuit services that can be linked with QuickBooks Desktop. Desktop Payroll, QuickBooks Desktop Payments, and online bank feeds are all included in this. Versions that have been discontinued won't get the newest, most important security upgrades.
With that being said, you might want to pursue getting QuickBooks Online or upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop version.
You can read through this article to know more about this policy: QuickBooks Desktop 2020 service discontinuation policy.
Additionally, when decided to migrate from QBDT to QBO, your books may appear differently as both have their unique features. To help you understand how your books were moved, feel free to utilize this article: Learn how features and data move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.
Drop a reply anytime if you still have questions or concerns with managing your QuickBooks Desktop subscription and files. I'll be here to assist you further. Take care and have a nice day ahead.
Fortunately, I don't use payroll, payments, or any online services. . . a bit annoyed that I cannot even import manually a qbo file. . . I could do that without being connected to the internet at all.
I'm talking with my CPA about some free options that she can work with since my needs are barebones basic (only a single member LLC, no inventory, no payments, I do my own payroll, no need for online services (when I can download and import a qbo, xls, etc file).
