Can't send emails using GoDaddy (Microsoft 365) SMTP server. Get "Your browser is a bit unusual..." message when trying to log in

GoDaddy recently upgraded to MS365 mail servers which only accept OAuth2 authentication.  I tried to update my Email Preferences in QB, selecting Outook/Hotmail/Live as the Provider and selecting the Enhanced Security check box.  It brought up a Microsoft 365 login screen, but after entering my credentials it brought up an error window stating "Your browser is a bit unusual..." (see attachement).

It doesn't look like QB can just open the message in my native email program (Thunderbird) where I can manually send it anymore, so is the only solution for me to have to save a PDF copy of my invoice, and manually enter the recipients, subject line, text message, and attach the file?

Can't send emails using GoDaddy (Microsoft 365) SMTP server. Get "Your browser is a bit unusual..." message when trying to log in

Welcome to the QuickBooks Community, TCSI. Let's perform troubleshooting steps so you can send emails in QuickBooks Desktop without issues.

The error you received might be a settings issue. Since you've already updated your email preferences in QuickBooks, let's check your browser's email preferences and you may need to reset your email preferences there. QuickBooks uses Internet Explorer to run web services in the background.

Here's how:

  1. Close your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
  2. Open Internet Explorer.
  3. Select Tools then the Settings menu. Then, Internet options.
  4. Choose the Programs tab and click Set Programs.
  5. Select Set your default programs. Then select the email service you want to use.
  6. Click Apply, then OK.
  7. Close Internet Explorer.

If you get the same result, I suggest repairing your MAPI32.dll. You can open this artilcle and follow the instructions stated in Step 4 to perform the process: How to fix "Error: QuickBooks is unable to send your email to Outlook".

If the issue persists, you may accomplish the solution you've mentioned which is to save a PDF copy of my invoice, and manually enter the recipients, subject line, text message, and attach the file. Then, I suggest contacting our QuickBooks Support Team. They have the tools to pull up your account and be able to investigate the cause of the error.

Lastly, I'm adding this article if you need help creating multiple templates for each transaction type in QBDT: Create custom email templates in QuickBooks Desktop.

I’m always ready to assist you if you have any other questions or concerns about managing your emails and other tasks in QBDT. Tag me in your reply and I’ll sprint back into action. Have a good one and keep safe, TCSI.

Can't send emails using GoDaddy (Microsoft 365) SMTP server. Get "Your browser is a bit unusual..." message when trying to log in

This seems like a outdated response which is not tailored to my specific issue.  Internet Explorer is not used anymore with Windows 10, which now uses MS Edge.  I'm guessing anyone who is using QBDT and has a recently updated GoDaddy email server is having this issue (which looks like it has been an issue for years, seeing previous posts).  Previously, it appears you could work around the problem by using basic authentication, but I don't think that works anymore with the latest Office365 update.

I would consider calling your support team, but am not really willing to pay for for support when this seems more like a product (or documentation) bug.

Can't send emails using GoDaddy (Microsoft 365) SMTP server. Get "Your browser is a bit unusual..." message when trying to log in

This response is a duplicate from an issue reported in 2022.

I was successfully using Outlook365 through GoDaddy until the wifi adapter went out on that laptop.  I ported my QB files to another computer, updated QB and now can't send emails through QB.  Even when I select Outlook as my email of choice and then have QB send the email to Outlook to be forwarded on, nothing gets sent.  I get the same GoDaddy "Your browser is a bit unusual" message when I try to validate my email through QB. I spent  2 hours on a chat with GoDaddy trying to troubleshoot - turning off every pop-up and ad blocker they recommended, etc.  Still not working.  Can't email anything - invoices, paystubs, etc.  I've tried every possible way to set up my email through QB preferences (webmail with and without enhanced security, Outlook).  The fact that this worked on my old computer with no problem says to me that QB made a change in their program that only affected new email set up.

The help I was directed to in the process of trying to send an email was for Gmail and indicated I needed to turn on 2-factor authentication in Gmail.  GoDaddy does not have a 2-factor authentication.

If anyone has figured this out, please reply because QB doesn't seem particularly worried about helping their customers out.

Can't send emails using GoDaddy (Microsoft 365) SMTP server. Get "Your browser is a bit unusual..." message when trying to log in

Hi there, MinkaFarm. I understand how important it is for you to have the email function working and to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

Since you've already attempted to configure your email preferences through QuickBooks, but the problems persist, I recommend performing additional troubleshooting steps by repairing your MAPI32.dll.

But just a heads-up if you're not confident following these steps you can reach out to an IT professional for help. To narrow down the issue, let's first run this test:

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. Open Microsoft Word and create a new document.
  3. Select the File menu, then Send, and then Email as PDF Attachment.
  4. Once done, send a test email.

If you are unable to send an email from Microsoft Word, I suggest contacting Microsoft Help and Support. There could be a problem with your Outlook or Office Suite.

Otherwise, if you can send an email from Microsoft Word but not from QuickBooks, try repairing your MAPI32.dll. Here's how:

  1. Close all open programs.
  2. Open the Windows Start menu.
  3. Type "File Explorer" into the search and open File Explorer.
  4. Type C:\Windows\System32 into the search.
  5. Find and open Fixmapi.exe. Follow the on-screen instructions to run the repair.
  6. When the repair finishes, restart your computer.

After that, Open QuickBooks and send a test email or transaction. If the repair did not resolve the issue, you can reinstall QuickBooks Desktop to start the program in a clean slate.

Let me know if you still need assistance or have follow-up questions about QuickBooks Desktop. I'll be here to help.

I can see you're currently having trouble sending your emails, @kmeckert. Let's resolve this error you encountered by updating your Microsoft Office and QuickBooks Desktop.

Before that, may I ask if you tried the suggested troubleshooting provided by my colleague above? If you tried it already, let's proceed to the next possible fixes to get you back on track.

For some reason, this error usually appears when Microsoft is outdated. Thus, we'll have to update it to get the latest features, security patches, and bug fixes for Office 365 subscribers. These updates are vital to keep your Office apps up and running seamlessly.

Here's how:

  1. Open the Office app that you want to update.
  2. Then, open a Blank document.
  3. Click on File.
  4. Click on Account, which is listed on the left.
  5. Click on the Update Options drop-down menu, and click on Update Now to install office updates.

Next, update your company to the latest release. It will keep your account up to date and improve QuickBooks Desktop features.

Here's how to update manually:

  1. Go to Help and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Select Update Now, then choose Get Updates.
  3. After that, close and reopen QuickBooks.
  4. When asked to install, select Yes.
  5. When the installation finishes, follow the on-screen instructions.

Once done, close your Desktop account and reopen this as administrator.

  1. Press the Windows Start button and search for QuickBooks Desktop there.
  2. Your results ought to appear in the Search window.
  3. Select the year and version of QuickBooks by using the right-click menu.
  4. Tap the Run as administrator to start.

After reopening as admin, update the application again to guarantee the available fixes and product improvements will fall into place.

Here's an article to see the detailed instruction. You can also visit the Video Section: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

Let me know if you have other concerns with your company. I'll be here to support you along the way.

Nope.  Just tried updating as suggested below, but that didn't help.  Basically, I have to manually copy the recipient address, my BCC address, the subject line, and the message body into a new email message (as well as saving the invoice as a PDF and attaching it).  Pretty onerous workaround, IMHO.  Fortunately, I only send out a few invoices a week.

Office365 auto-updates, so I think the MS software is fine (it doesn't even have an Update Now option).

Strangely enough, I have QBDT on auto-update, but it was not updated to the latest release.  I did follow the manual update procedure but that still did not solve the problem.  When trying to use enhanced security, it brings up the Webmail Authorization window with the GoDaddy logo, but after entering my UN/PW, it brings up a message

Your browser is a bit unusual...

Try disabling ad blockers and other extensions, enabling javascript, using a different web browser or turning off your VPN.

I have had the same issue for weeks. I've spent hours on the phone with support, which has been no help at all. Not sure if the problem is Quickbooks is still using Internet Explorer, as it's no longer available on Windows 11, but this problem needs to be fixed. I send dozens of emails a day and have to manually save as pdf and then email from my email app. This problem is costing me hours of work time.

I appreciate you for bringing this to our attention, @tvacha. Let me ensure you'll get the assistance you need to resolve this issue so you can resume sending emails in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

As of June 15, 2022, Microsoft has no longer supported Internet Explorer 11. All compatible versions of QBDT are now using our new custom browser. It's reliable and will contain critical security updates. Please read this article to learn more: Use our built-in browser in QuickBooks Desktop.

I understand the inconvenience of having to send invoices manually. For now, I recommend reaching out to our customer support team. While I'm aware you've already contacted them, we'll need to get in touch again so they can look into this further and raise an investigation if necessary. To do that:

  1. Go to the Help menu and click QuickBooks Help.
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Provide a brief description of your concern, and click Continue.
  4. Log in to your Intuit account, select Continue, then Continue with my account.
  5. Enter the single-use code you received in your email and hit Continue.
  6. Choose between Chat with us or Have us call you.

Moreover, create custom templates for your sales forms so you can modify how they look and include specific information according to your preferences.

Feel free to reach out back to us whenever you have additional questions about emailing invoices. The Community is open anytime to address your concerns. Stay safe.

I have the same situation.  goDaddy changed my email from Secure Server to Office 365.  I was just told by goDaddy that Quickbooks does not support the Exchange Server for Office 365 and I can no longer email out of Quickbooks.  Has anyone else heard this?  I can't be the only business that is having this issue!

I appreciate you for sharing your concern here, wruby2004

A compatibility issue with the Server for Office 365, which is causing you to be unable to email out of QuickBooks using your GoDaddy email addresses is something we need to look further.

To isolate this issue and continue using QuickBooks seamlessly, I recommend using an alternative email address for sending emails from QuickBooks. This could be an email address from a different provider that is known to work well with QuickBooks.

If the other email address works, let's send feedback straight to our product engineers. You can input further details about the incompatibility of the email provider. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu in your company file.
  2. Select Send Feedback Online and choose Product Suggestion.
  3. Then, click the Send Feedback button.

If you have any specific questions, the Community is always available to ensure your QuickBooks experience is seamless. Feel free to share your inquiry, and I'll be prompt in assisting you.

I just checked using another email account (Sonic) which does not use MS Office, and the email sent fine.  (This is not a real solution for me as I really need to use my work email address when sending out professional documents - invoices, etc.)  I tried sending a Bug Report/Enhancement Request, but got an Internet Setup Error Window with the message "Internet Client has not been successfully initialized. You must uninstall, and then reinstall this application." Error code 67108890.

I can share some troubleshooting steps to get this working, @TCSI.

Have you tried unchecking the Use enhanced security box and entering the Server Name: smtp.office365.com and Port: 587 manually and checking the SSL/TLS box in the Edit Email Info window? It works for some Microsoft 365 users.

Meanwhile, I suggest updating your Security Permission in QBDT to let your operating system run QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) program as an admin. It can help you avoid the Setup Error Window.

Here's how:

  1. Find the QBDT icon from your computer desktop screen.
  2. Right-click on the QuickBooks icon and then select Properties.
  3. Go to the Compatibility section.
  4. Check the Run this program as an administrator box.
  5. Click OK.

In addition, make sure QBDT is up-to-date with the latest release to avoid unexpected errors while working with the program.

If everything is updated and the problem continues, I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the program to fix system behavior. Make sure to back up your company file and keep a copy of your QuickBooks Desktop product and license info before uninstalling QBDT.

Once ready, you can now continue with the procedure:

  1. Open the Windows Start menu, search for Control Panel, and then open Control Panel.
  2. Select Programs and Features or Uninstall a Program.
  3. Choose the version of QuickBooks Desktop you want to uninstall from the program list.
  4. Click Uninstall/Change and then Remove.
  5. Choose Next. If the option is not there, sign out and sign back into Windows as an admin (or a user with admin rights).
  6. Once done, reinstall QuickBooks Desktop.

To give you more details about this process, you can always review this link: Reinstall QuickBooks Desktop. Then you can follow the steps suggested by my peer, @SarahannC, to submit feedback or use the email from this article under Accessibility feedback: Accessibility features in QuickBooks.

Keep me posted on how things turn out. I'll be around to assist you if there's anything else that you need help with. Take care!

I have spent over 2 hours on the phone with QB and got nowhere.  The agent got nowhere and was told that I would get a call back from someone else.  (Never happened) At some point in the conversation I was advised to contract godaddy - which I did again spent over an hour on the phone.  No results - we can't be the only ones that are having with issue with Godaddy emails.

Somehow I fixed it but it all of the sudden stopped working in the middle of sending statements ugh!!!!!

Can't send emails using GoDaddy (Microsoft 365) SMTP server. Get "Your browser is a bit unusual..." message when trying to log in

I have not found a real solution.  I did call customer support and they had me reconfigure my email settings to the following:

Email Provider: Others

SMTP Server Name: smtpout.secureserver.net

Port: 587

Check the SSL/TLS box

It works in some cases as expected.  However, if I am sending to a gmail account (only the most common email used in my customer list) or some of the emails that are @businessname.com, it fails.  I then have to download a pdf, send directly from my GoDaddy hosted email account and invoice through Square (Yay. More bookkeeping tasks - wait, isn't QB supposed to be saving me time?!)

I just installed the latest QB update, hoping this problem was fixed.  Doesn't appear that they've gotten to it yet.  Going to try calling support again.

I don't believe they will actually provide you with a solution.  From what I can see, Intuit has zero interest in connecting to Office 365 to send mail.  They will allow Gmail accounts to be connected, but since they run their own email construct, they don't want to bother with going through everyone else's business accounts.  I do not think you will find a reasonable resolution to this.  Every suggestion that has been given for this since 2019 (you can find posts about this for years) was either to print to PDF and send it out via Outlook (but then, why did some of us even bother to swap to online, when this is just what we were doing with QB Desktop? Plus, it defeats the purpose of time saving AND probably kills the auto-reminder function as well), or connect a secondary Gmail account as the primary to send email through.  This is a VERY unprofessional suggestion.   Those of us with 365 accounts also want to show professionalism  by using the domain our client is accustomed to, not just tossing a random Gmail account at them with invoices.

So this is not a real resolution to the problem.  Its a bad band-aid.

The other resolution I see is to buy a third party app that connects your 365 account  through QB.  Now, this is not only more money the user has to spend, when it is Intuit that should be providing this service, but its dangerous to the user as their email and password are now being held by another entity.

So, intuit has failed everyone yet again.  365 is one the largest professional email providers on the planet, but Intuit is somehow missing the boat on connecting to them?  Seems dodgy at best.

Hey QuickBooks admin: prove me wrong.  Give us the resolution to this problem. Quit giving side-BS band-aid suggestions and actually get a developer to make this happen. or have the decency to tell everyone that you don't have it, and you won't have it.

So I wanted to reach out with a resolution, in-fact I made an account just to post what worked for us.

You're unable to use the WebAuth portal and the hand-off for Outlook with the GoDaddy Office 365 is less than desirable coupled with crashes and errors. We thought it was tied to end-point security and corrupted files initially but this has been the long term resolution for us.

You need to enable SMTP Authentication on your Email Account as directed in the link posted below and uncheck the SSL/TLS checkbox in Quickbooks from the Edit > Preferences > Send Forms configuration.

Accepting the SMTP settings that auto-populate.

I just spent a whole day with a similar problem After updating QB Desktop from 2022 to 2024 I lost my email setup. I tried to plug in the SMTP "address" that was for my Godaddy Outlook 365 email, but every time I treid to send a test email, it would never recognize my password.

Back and forth between Godaddy ("we haven't changed anything, go to QB") and QB ("our notes say that Godaddy is no longer compatible with QB") with no resolution. I finally read in this forum a mention that Godaddy has switched from Secure Server to an Outlook/365 setting.

So I went back into QB and chose "other", my email address and used SMTPOUT.SECURESERVER.NET, port 587. Bingo, it worked!

I have called Godaddy and QB tech support to offer my solution, since both have continued to get calls about this.

Hope this helps others.
