Hi there, everyone.
I can see the urgency of resolving the issue of being unable to open company files in QB Mac on Sonoma OS (v14). At this moment, we aren't able to give a specific timeframe when the issue will be resolved. Since our engineers are still working on it and conducting further investigation, I'd suggest contacting our Customer Care Team. They'll add you to the list of affected users and receive updates through email once a fix is available.
To reach them, here's how:
Ensure to review their support hours to know when agents are available.
As for your concern, mitt1. You can now purchase the 2024 version of QuickBooks Desktop by upgrading your version. And once upgraded, company file data goes to the newer version. If you encounter any issues when upgrading, I recommend contacting our Customer Care Team so they can guide you along the process.
If there's anything else you need help with, let me know by commenting below. I'm here to lend a hand.
Hi MirriamM,
I just updated my 2023 install to QuickBooks 22.0.4.692 R5.2.
In the release notes it says it's Sonoma compatible.
Can you confirm this please before I upgrade my macOS and suffer the same fate as these other poor souls?
Thank you, JBC
Right now, if running 2021 desktop version, Support provided a solution that works:
1. hold the Command key while entering log-in information to suppress open windows.
2. avoid opening the Home page until patch is released.
3. access various functions through the main ribbon / nav bar.
4. closing the application will still back up your updates.
This is a good summary. I have on my list to also disable tabbed windows, which @IntuitBrooks shed light on (I'm using QBDT 2021):
1. Hold down the option key while launching QuickBooks. This prevents QuickBooks form opening your previously used company file.
2. Select your company file from the "No Company Open" Window. Hold down the command key while opening the file. This prevents the last used windows from opening.
3. Go into QuickBooks->Settings… Select the Toolbar & Tabs icon in the 3rd row down and then uncheck the Use Tabbed Windows checkbox.
4. Avoid opening the home page.
I was able to run invoices last night and pray when the update arrives all the data is preserved. For those users on older versions of QB for which there is no upgrade path I hope Intuit provides you with some kind of a discount since this incompatibility was unforeseen.
Is there some link I go to so I can order and downlaod the 2024 version of QBs Desktop since I have the 2019 Desktop and it appears you will not be attempting a fix for that version?
The holding the command key while entering the log in info work around does not work for me on 2019. When I do this and open the register, the register appears for a 1/2 second and then crashed. I can see the register fleetingly for about .5 seconds. I can get all the way to the chart of accounts. When I click on Register, it attempts to open and then immdieatlyh crashes. It draws the screen briefly and then dies. A little work on the side of Intuit should fbe able to fix this.
You are describing my problem exactly. It would obviously be an easy fix but I'm sure they want to push us to buy software we don't need. Considering we had no option because of Intuit's lack of communication of compatibility issues, they would seem liable to provide this fix.
Did you select your action from the menu bar at the top of your screen? I found that this works for QB 23. FWIW, I upgraded to 24 and the program is behaving normally in Sonoma.
Dear Marriam,
if I can login to my intuit account and cannot find a link to buy 2024 or 2023 Mac OS QB license for 1-3 users - you are doing it wrong. Please stop telling people to upgrade to 2024 and buy license later at a price that not even known yet. you DO know once you upgrade qb version - it's near to impossible to go back. right?
Intuit made life a living hell for many loyal customers who are simply "STUCK/LOCKED". a few of my clients did try QB online in good faith - all of them backed away within a month.
This is where I draw a line, no more $ from me to intuit at this point. I will ride my older Mac until it dies with QB 2019. will decide on next steps after.
you keep upselling your customers with stuff they don't need and hold customers as your hostages. I get it you need to please your investors. good luck!
Hey Quickbooks!
I just wanted to say "Thank You!" for pushing out an update for Mac Desktop 2023 to work with Sonoma, and rolling out Mac Desktop 2024. I appreciate your support.
Have a great day.
Thank you to the person who posted a possible temporary work around for sending invoices.. Since updating QBDT21 to Sonoma OS I’ve not been able to open my company file…
I’ve yet to try this possible work around mentioned earlier.. but if there’s anyway for me to send invoices, I’m going to have to try it…
I’ve spoken with 2 people at Intuit’s customer support and their advice has been to purchase Quickbooks for mac 2023…
Again, I’m currently running Quickbooks 2021…
When I asked if there would be a patch to fix the issue with QBDT2021 not opening on Sonoma the representative said they weren’t sure when or if there would be any patch available.. (they also didn’t know exactly when QB24 was going to be released).
I feel like there is a better chance of getting help on this forum then calling their service center… A QB team member on this forum has said there is a patch coming- but not sure when it’s expected..
Really hoping there is a patch coming soon…
Otherwise it seems like the options are to downgrade back to the previous operating system, or run qb21 from a different computer that hasn’t been updated to Sonoma, or purchase QB 2023.
Really infuriating and so bad for small businesses. How could anyone recommend this for businesses large or small? Trying to practice patience and believing this will be resolved, but dang, it’s hard.
AGAIN- Please fix Quickbooks for Mac 2021 and allow it to open with Apple’s new operating system Sanoma 14.0. Please help! Thank you.
I believe (hope) QBDT 2021 will be supported. I saw a press release this Summer stating versions 2020 and earlier are no longer going to be supported...
They state in the release that "We notify you in advance (through email, in-product notifications, the mail, and this page) as services for older versions of QuickBooks Desktop are scheduled to be discontinued." and I never received such a message for QB 2021, so it would be a blindside.
Hi there everyone. I understand how frustrating and inconvenient it must be for you to encounter these issues with Quickbooks for Mac. I can sense your frustration and the difficulty in maintaining patience while waiting for a resolution.
Allow me to share additional information about this issue and provide clarifications.
According to our latest update, customers who have already installed the patches should not encounter any compatibility issues when updating their MacOs, @jbcrane.
However, we're still receiving reports from customers who have not yet received the new patches and are still facing the same issue. I recognize the urgency of resolving this matter and assure you that our dedicated Product Engineers are working diligently to isolate and address the problem as quickly as possible.
If in case some of you here whose not yet included in the list of affected users, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Custer Care Team so you'll be included in the priority list and get timely updates. I'd be including the steps for the benefit of everyone:
As for your concern @mitt1, while we don't have a direct link for QuickBooks Desktop 2024, you don't have to worry since once a new version of QuickBooks is available which is QBDT 2024, you'll get a message when you open QuickBooks and we make the upgrade easy for you. Check out this article to be guided on the upgrade process: Upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop subscription.
Lastly, it's great to hear that the update has resolved the compatibility issue you were facing with Sonoma, @envelopes. It's nice knowing that we're able to help customers like you and many others so you all can get back to business.
Moreover, I've included these articles to help you learn what's new in QuickBooks Desktop 2024 and find out what your computer needs for the best experience:
Thank you for your understanding and trust in our support. Should you have any further questions or require additional assistance about this issue, please do not hesitate to reach out. I'm here to support you all the way and provide the information you need. Keep safe.
I just want to reiterate that the crash had been reported well *before* public release of Sonoma during the beta period, and while I'm sure there are breaking changes on Apple's part, the entire reason they provide such a beta period is to provide companies such as Intuit an ample time window to test products, fix them, and release updates prior to major macOS releases. This is a very established and understood process. It is 100% a product management issue of Intuit --- not Apple -- failing to follow the basic requisite development process requirements of the platform (macOS) the products (QuickBooks for Mac) are built upon. It is incredibly disheartening to see Intuit staff repeatedly blaming Apple for an issue Intuit had plenty of time to fix, in addition to a lack of active customer notifications prior to Sonoma general availability.
Just bought Quickbooks for Mac 2024 for $680 (annual fee for use). Am now able to open my Quickbooks 2021 file. Thanks Quickbooks.
RIP... Nothing but love for our friends at Intuit (sarcasm). If you can't convince them to buy new software based on the merits of the software, just wait for something to brake and make them grab their ankles.
Thank you sir, may I have another!
Look I get it...
Intuit has to make money. No one expects them to maintain super old software for ever. Other companies sunset older software and encourage their users to get the latest and greatest.
As much as my QB2019 does what I need it to do I know they would not keep maintaining it for ever.
The problem is the way this whole fiasco went down. A simple OS upgrade brings the whole community to its knees. No way Inuit didn't know that this would happen on ALL THEIR FREAKING VERSIONS!
Instead of warning us they rub their hands Machiavellically and wait for everyone to go dark and then watch their registries go cha-ching, cha-ching with thousands of desperate users trying to get their company data to work.
Its just wrong, its disgusting really... Make freaking software people will WANT to upgrade to.
I would upgrade from 2019 if I had an alternative that didn't require a yearly fee. It's just greed, plain and simple. Your yearly or monthly fee software gives me literally nothing I will use more than what I have in 2019. Heck, I would upgrade to the 2024 if I didn't have to keep buying it EVERY FREAKING YEAR.
Treat your users like people who are doing YOU a favor not the other way around. Geee, Intuit, thank you for letting me have the honor and privilege of using your software while I pay you a fortune.
I have 8 company files (no I'm not a huge corporation, I'm a one man shop with 7 vacation rentals). To go online I'd have to pay $240/month for their "Essentials" package--AND THAT IS THEIR 50% OFF PRICE. In a year it would be $480/month! Come on....
OR... I can go for Mac desktop version 2024 which starts at $799/yr--EVERY YEAR!
How about this Intuit. Admit and apologize to all of the people who you've given a week of sleepless nights that you screwed up, fix 2019, 2021, 2023, 2024 (I know you already fixed 2024). give us a reason to upgrade or a way to upgrade that is actually palatable. I would buy 2024 just like I did 2019 and the 6 versions before that one if it had some cool new features, doesn't have to be much, and if it actually worked--as long as I could just buy it ONCE like decent people.
Don't get me wrong. I AM ANGRY but I also like your software I just HATE how you treat us, the people who are paying you their hard-earned money. we should feel pampered and taken care of not like we are a bunch of people who you only slightly tolerate.
Please fix 2019.
Otherwise it's ADIOS AMIGOS. I've been looking at wave. It seems to do everything and more than what I could do with 2019 and ITS FREEEEEEEEEE!
It's just very painful to move to a new platform. and tax time is going to suck if I have to splice together a bunch of reports.
Lucky for me I have an old computer with macOS Catalina on it.
I would upgrade from 2019 if I had an alternative that didn't require a yearly fee.
If you don't mind to use the trial version of QB Desktop Windows, you can use it for good on Parallels.
Same issue. How did you downgrade MacOS?
:JB
Looks like an update to QBDT Mac 2021 dropped this morning. Updated to QuickBooks 20.0.12.1076 R13.3 and although I didn't have the courage to click on the Home button, it did allow me to make a few banking entries that I couldn't make earlier because of the Sonoma bug.
Yea, but that does suck. I don’t want to use parallels. I’d rather jump of the ship and try something else. Besides, why do they offer a windows version that works that way and not a Mac version that works that way? That is my whole gripe.
why do they offer a windows version that works that way and not a Mac version that works that way?
Because their Windows team is still using the old fashioned way
Just updated to QuickBooks 20.0.12.1076 R13.3, Sonoma crash issue seems to be resolved! Can get to the Company Home Page, even the Snapshot screen is working.
I too was able to run the update and things seem to be back to normal. @IntuitBrooks or anyone at Intuit, can you please answer the following questions:
1. When will the Downloads page have the latest version of QB2021 (looks like it's still the previous version and I want to download this version and save as a back-up)?
2. Is it safe to turn window tabbing back on?
Thank you for your efforts!
