I appreciate you for getting back to this thread, @Filander1961.
Let me chime in and clarify things for you.
Once you reach the screen displaying the message "There's a new version - Install Now," simply proceed by clicking on the Install Now button. Rest assured, this action will only install the latest update for the Desktop version, and not the cloud version.
If you're still having issues opening your QuickBooks Desktop file, you can utilize this resource for the detailed steps: QuickBooks Desktop won't open.
Moreover, I'll be sharing this link to help manage your QuickBooks Desktop account and services with the Customer Account Maintenance Portal (CAMP): Manage your QuickBooks Desktop subscriptions and services.
Please let me know if you still have issues installing and upgrading QuickBooks. I'm here to help get this working for you. Keep safe!
The same question from 4 weeks ago. Can you login to your CAMPS as the Primary Contact and find your license code there?
What converter with a one time fee? I don’t see it in the thread…..
Which QB Desktop year version? 2020 or newer?
What converter with a one time fee? I don’t see it in the thread…..and also, I just stumbled on this, but not advertised by quickbooks much, greedy bastards…
I apologize if this is posted twice. I am looking at other options, but then I saw this, which quickbooks doesn’t really advertise loudly. At all.
QB Desktop 2020
You can't use the converter tool to work with an outdated QB Desktop (e.g 2020). Your option is using the importer tool. It's one time license

Another option, upgrade your version to a newer one with a non subscription license.
I would like to upgrade to a non-subscription license but all the quickbooks pro I have found have licenses owned by other companies, and they are just for a year...which seems like a subscription. Where would I find a copy that I can buy outright and upgrade from my 2020??
Thank you.
Hi there, @Hippocampus24.
Allow me to chime in and provide information about non-subscription licenses in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).
Currently, QuickBooks Desktop no longer offers non-subscription licenses. QBDT has changed its pricing model and now offers only a subscription-based option on its website.
However, if you want to buy a non-subscription model of QBDT. I suggest buying it from authorized resellers, software retailers, and online commerce platforms.
You can also visit our website for more tips and other resources you can use in the future: Self-help articles.
Please leave a comment if you have any other concerns about the subscription or other QBDT-related concerns. I'll be here to assist you.
Do you only work solo with no payroll?
Hello,
I need some clarification on the discontinuation of QBDT 2020 Pro.
This thread jumps from the 2020 version to the 2021 version which my client does not have.
They have QuickBooks Desktop 2020 Pro
On Friday, they sent me a panicky email telling me that their QBDT 2020 Pro is being killed off on May 31st and that all data will be lost
This is what they sent me
Hi Steve
Do you remember those late evening calls you made once to QB Helpline – a lady in Holland was very helpful, a lady in the UK was not quite so! Well, the Desktop version is being withdrawn for maintenance subscription on 31 May, but worse still, all the client data is to be wiped clean at the same date.
Whilst both Tina and Ashish are handling transition from QB to Xero for their managed clients, this only makes the current year safe in Xero, leaving the last 6 years data inaccessible.
QB advise transferring all the 6 year data as CSV files which has both procedural and storage issues. Whilst I get Tina and Ashish to ensure all QB client files are listed for transfer, including any in the process of transition, can you address the procedure issue (Jasmin is receiving the QB instructions shortly) and work out our storage scheme please.
Note 31 May is a Friday, two weeks from today, less public holiday on Monday 27 May.
Many thanks
Michael
It seems overkill that the 2020 version will have its data wiped.
Am I correct in thinking that the data will remain intact but no new updates, security fixes, no access to add-on, payroll and Internet banking will be available. Just historic data
Thank you
Steve
You are asking about QB Desktop UK version. If you have QB Desktop 2020 UK version with a non subscription license, you will be fine after this month.
Let me ensure to go into details and provide the necessary information regarding QuickBooks Desktop's discontinuation, @AtmosSteveVR.
Intuit has announced the discontinuation of QuickBooks Desktop 2020 as of May 2023. That said, Intuit will no longer provide software updates, security patches, or technical support for the 2020 desktop version of the software.
However, if you have the non-subscription (standalone) license version, then there is nothing to worry about, as it will still be accessible as is. Otherwise, you'll have limited access.
Therefore, we can either upgrade to the latest version or switch to QuickBooks Online.
Furthermore, you'll want to check this article and understand how your features and data move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online if you consider migrating: Learn how features and data move from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online.
The Community is here if you require additional assistance with QuickBooks Desktop's discontinuation. I'll keep an eye out for it. Stay safe.
My Quickbooks 2020 Pro won't open. It partially opens but I can't go into my screen to create invoices or record bills. The options across the top of the screen are there but when I click on them they don't open. It's like it is locked up.
Can you open the sample file?
Thanks for joining the Community and getting involved with this thread, amymay.
When QuickBooks freezes up, there's several possible causes:
If you're able to use your Verify Data utility, I'd recommend troubleshooting with it initially. This tool identifies known issues within company files and informs users if their Rebuild Data option needs to be utilized afterwards.
Here's how it's used:
In the event its results show a "Your data has lost integrity," message, this indicates there's damage in your file. You can use the Rebuild Data utility to fix it. For specific errors, there may already be a resource for them on our support site.
If it displays a "QuickBooks detected no problems with your data," notification, or you've searched our help articles and didn't find any existing resources about the specific error it displayed, you can move on to troubleshooting with our QuickBooks Tool Hub. You'll also want to try this process if you're unable to use your Verify and Rebuild utilities.
Here's how:
If your books are still freezing, you'll want to try running the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic utility from your Tool Hub.
In the event your books continue not freezing, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up the account in a secure environment, conduct further research with you, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.
Please don't hesitate to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Have a great Friday!
