Join nowI need to change the revenue accounts my inventory items post to, for future as well as past transactions. If I edit items individually a pop-up box appears and asks if I want to affect just future or also past; BUT I would like to use the edit multiple item feature and change in bulk - future and past postings. Any guidance would be appreciated!
I can help you edit the revenue accounts of your inventory items in bulk, @KRyan1.
You can use the Add/Edit Multiple List Entries feature to change the revenue or income accounts of your inventory items in bulk. This way, you can modify it for future postings. I'd be happy to show you how:
On the other hand, you'll have to edit the income accounts of your inventories one at a time to update the existing or past transactions.
The good thing is, you can also add or delete the desired columns to customize your inventories. This way, you'll be able to focus on the ones you want to work on.
To monitor your inventories easily, you can run inventory-related reports in QuickBooks Desktop. Just go to the Reports menu, and then choose one from the Inventory section.
You can count on me for other inventory concerns you might encounter in the future. Feel at ease to add a reply so I can help you further. You have a good one!
Thank you - but when I do that it doesn't change my previous entries. When I do changes individually - Item by item - I get a pop up box asking if I want to update existing transactions - which I do! But when I edit multiple and copy down, how do I tell it I want to also update existing transactions?
Hello again, KRyan1.
When editing multiple items, the changes to the account will reflect on future transactions. The old account use for the items will stay on the existing or past transactions. If you'd like, you may consider creating a Journal entry to transfer the accounts. But before doing so, I recommend contacting your accountant for guidance on which account receives the debit and credit transaction.
To create a journal entry, here's how:
I'm just a post away if you should have any questions or need further assistance. Have a good one.
I don't think journal entries for thousands of parts, for 15 years of comps is a viable solution, seems like it would be faster to edit each inventory item individually which allows the option for prior transaction. BUT - Since this does work on item by item edits, IT SHOULD BE ALSO BE POSSIBLE for multiple edits also. Pease provided the steps for multiple edits - to get to that same pop up box, that allows past transaction option that is available with the item by item edit.
Thanks for coming back for more support, @KRyan1. At the moment, editing multiple items is unavailable in QuickBooks.
