Let me provide ways to help you edit your template in QuickBooks Accountant Desktop, @Ralph7797.

I've replicated the same process on a different desktop accountant version and found that the layout designer button is available when editing any sales form templates except for the Bill payment form. Refer to the sample screenshot below:

Therefore, I recommend performing updates and repair troubleshooting to get the latest updates and fix common issues.

Here's how to update:

  1. Go to Help and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Select Update Now, and tick the Reset update box.
  3. Then click Get Updates, and wait for the updates to finish.
  4. Once done, Close QuickBooks.

Once you've completed the update checks, you can download QuickBooks Tool Hub, which includes the Quick Fix My Program and Diagnostic tools to help you repair any issues with your program. Check the Solution 1 and 2 in this article for detailed steps: Repair your QuickBooks Desktop for Windows.

Additionally, you can check this article to learn how to use and customize form templates: Use and customize form templates.

For future reference, refer to this article for running reports to track sales and expenses: Customize customer, job, and sales reports.

Feel free to reach out if you have other questions about customizing forms. I'll be around to help. Take care.

I was trying to use the "layout editor" with the Bill Payment template, and the layout editor appears to only be available when editing income/sales forms.

Thanks for replying to the thread, Ralph7797.

I have replicated the issue you reported in our system. The layout editor seems to be available only when editing income/sales forms. However, the Bill Payment template is currently unavailable.

I know how convenient and time-saving it is to have it added, to QuickBooks Desktop. I highly recommend sending your feedback to QuickBooks so our developer may analyze and include your suggestions in future releases.

To submit feedback, here's how:

  1. Login to QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Choose the Help option.
  3. Select the Send Feedback Online option.
  4. Choose the Product Suggestion option. A pop-up window will appear.
  5. Enter your feedback suggestion.
  6. Select the Send Feedback button.

I have included an article for you to read, in case you are interested in learning more about creating and using custom fields in QuickBooks Desktop.
