Before we proceed, can you share with me the version of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) you're using right now? That way, I can provide you with the right steps in addressing the issue. 

Please know that after May 31, 2022, access to add-on services will be discontinued for QBDT for Windows 2019 and below. This includes all versions of QBDT Pro, Premier, and Enterprise Solutions v19.

This can be the reason why you're asked to buy a support contract either to get help with your move or take advantage of our special upgrade pricing. 

With regard to the pop-up message, let's run QuickBooks Tool Hub to fix the error. This contains a set of tools to address different types of problems in your company file. 

Here's how:
 

1. Close QuickBooks.
2. We recommend you download the most recent version (1.6.0.0) of the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it. The version will be displayed on the bottom right or you can select About to view the version.
3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
4. Follow the on-screen steps to install and agree to the terms and conditions.
5. When the installation finishes, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.

Once done, follow step 2 in this article to use its tools: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.

When you've managed to fix the issue, you can start working on your QuickBooks program. If you need help, you can always visit our articles from the general articles list page.

Same problem. Think intuit was hacked and now the program is fubar 

does intuit know how to fix this? I can’t open the program anymore and the tool hub is useless

Thanks for the reply. I just purchased a new Acer windows 11 computer and loaded 23. Was running ok then the error message. Can’t fix it using the tool. Jh

The QuickBooks Tool Hub can help you fix some common errors. There are times you may encounter an error message when opening QuickBooks Desktop due to the following reasons:

• Your company name may be too long
• You may have a damaged or missing QBWUSER.INI file
• You may have corruption on your hard drive
• Your program files or QuickBooks Desktop installation may be damaged
• You may have a damaged Windows operating system

I understand you've tried to fix it by utilizing the Tool Hub. I can provide more troubleshooting steps to get things back up and running.

Your company file might have been damaged. It's important to determine whether the problem is with your data file or QuickBooks. Let's try opening the QuickBooks Desktop application using the suppress method.

Here's how:

1. Press and hold the Ctrl key, then double-click the QuickBooks Desktop icon.
2. Note: Don't release the Ctrl key until you see the No Company Open window, QuickBooks freezes, or gives you an error.
3. Select a company file, then choose Open.

If the issues persist, let's run repair your QuickBooks Desktop installation since there might be components missing or damaged. I'll show you how.

1. Restart your computer.
2. Open the Windows Start menu, then click Control Panel.
3. Select Programs and Features, then Uninstall a Program.
4. Choose QuickBooks from the list of programs, then click Uninstall/Change.
5. Select Continue, or Next.
6. Click Repair, then Next.
7. Once it's done, hit Finish.

Thanks for all the suggestions, but this has now been resolved.  It was verified to be a scam caused by malware on the computer.

If you see this message, do not call [removed].

Contact Quickbooks Technical Support from within Quickbooks and they can assist you in removing the malware.

I had the same thing happen last night.  After hanging up on them using a few choice words, I called the quickbooks help line (DIFFERENT NUMBER) and support was awesome.   We used tool hub and Quickbook doctor and i am back to work with no issues.

Had this same problem this morning. Made the mistake of calling that number. Thought to call ProAdvisor support after paying for "Internet Data Protect Services" - Seems this is definitely a scam. Question is, did it come from an issue with the Intuit program or by some other hijack?

I've checked here on my end and there's no reported case about this issue and this could be an issue about the program.

It's possible that you encounter an error while using the opening QuickBooks Desktop. 

To resolve this, let’s run the Verify and rebuild tools to let this alignment tool works. The Verify Data will identify any data issues within your company file. Then, the Rebuild tool will self-resolve it. Check the steps below:

Verify data:

1. Go to File, then Utilities and choose Verify Data.

If it will detect an error, proceed and Rebuild your data:

1. Go back to File menu and then Utilities and select Rebuild Data.
2. Choose OK if you’ll receive a message to back-up your company file.
3. After creating the back-up file, the Rebuild Data utility will run automatically.
4. Click OK when you get the message Rebuild has completed.

We did the rebuild, it fixed an error but the message came up again. Unfortunately we called the number shown and were duped into buying "Intuit Data Protect Services" (but we were not actually speaking to Intuit) and granted access for them to make changes on the PC via LogMeIn. My hackles started to go up so I called Intuit directly from another phone and spoke to someone who advised us to shut down the computer immediately. We were able to contact the bank and freeze the account before the money came out, and fortunately had a backup of the QB file to use on a different machine. We will be getting the PC wiped and starting over. Hope this will prevent others from following through with this bogus message.

What would those files indicate? Unfortunately I cannot check because we shut down the computer once realizing that we were dealing with a hacker. We had a backup of the QB file so restored it on a different computer. We will be wiping the drive that was compromised.

As long as those files are on your machine you will get that "fake error message" when working on your QB Desktop files. The files are not malicious but only to trigger a social engineering process to the victims.

I am interested in understanding how you are aware of this - and if you have insight as to how those files would have gotten there? 

I've seen people in this thread say the pop up message is caused by malware. Can someone tell me the steps needed to remove the malware? I've tried using QuickBooks ToolHub, reinstalling QuickBooks completely, a full scan with enterprise grade antivirus, a Malwarebytes scan, and a SuperAntiSpyware scan. The pop-up warning still keeps appearing every time I open QuickBooks. 

Any information on how to remove this would be much appreciated. 

I have a brand new computer and this has happened 2 times to me using just one quickbooks file.  How do we remove this from the program.  I've rebuilt my data and it states that there were 0 issues.  The first time this happened I had to uninstall and reinstall the program and then it happened again yesterday for the 2nd time.  

Quickbooks is the only outside software I've loaded unto this new computer.

I had this issue; call Intuit directly 1-800-4INTUIT and they can assist in removing the files creating the error popup message. If you have a current paid subscription to QB desktop, their support to do this is included in the cost.

Since the issue persists, let's repair your company file using the Rebuild Data tool. It helps resolve minor company file data issues.

Here's how:

1. Go to the File menu at the top of your QuickBooks Desktop account.
2. Choose Utilities and click Rebuild Data.
3. On the QuickBooks Information window, select OK. 
4. Follow the onscreen steps to save a backup.
5. Let the tool repair your file. 
6. Click OK when done.
7. Go to the File menu again. Then hover over Utilities and select Verify Data.
8. Let the tool check your file for data issues.

If the system wasn't able to find any issues, select OK. But if it does, choose Rebuild now.

However, if you continue having the same problem, I suggest following Solution 2 in this article: Fix data damage on your QuickBooks Desktop company file.
