"Find Match" for PayPal Bank is not working

  1. I used to use QB desktop. When I switched to QBO, I uploaded all my information.
  2. I uploaded my original "PayPal" account data including register, etc. This data spanned up to mid-March 2019.
  3. In QBO, I connected to my actual PayPal account and it created a Bank Account called "PayPal Bank". The data in "PayPal Bank" thus overlapped with the data from QB Desktop by about 3 months.
  4. I excluded all transactions prior to 1/1/2019 for the "PayPal Bank" account.
  5. Many of the entries in "PayPal Bank" were transfers from one of two Bank of America accounts (one inactive and one active).
  6. Now, I am in my my Bank of America account trying to match transactions to "PayPal Bank" and it appeared to work for most of the transactions in Q1'2019. I then realized it was incorrectly matching transactions in the QB Desktop PayPal account.
  7. I then deleted (made inactive) the QB desktop PayPal account hoping that the matching would shift to search only in the "PayPal Bank" account. It was not needed since the first quarter's information was already captured in the "PayPal Bank" information.
  8. Again, while in the Bank of America bank account, if the paypal transaction is marked (Action) as a Transfer it does seem to find the matching transaction in the PayPal Bank account. If marked (Action) as an Add, it does not find it even though the matching record is easily found by me in the "Reviewed"  tab of the "PayPal Bank".

Do I have to match all records that can be matched, or can I just manually enter the ones it cannot match?

"Find Match" for PayPal Bank is not working

Hello there, @SkyFall!

You'll have to match all your records in both PayPal and BOFA account so you won't miss any transactions. This way, you can easily reconcile them and you won't encounter any discrepancy along the way.

I'm adding a few references here for ideas about reviewing your transactions in your account register after categorizing them.

I'll be here if you have any other questions. Have a good one!

"Find Match" for PayPal Bank is not working

Thank you for confirming that I have to match transactions.

So now, I'm in a really mess because QBO will not "find" matching transactions in my PayPal Bank account. However, I did notice something new. If the transfer is from PayPal Bank to my Bank of America account, then it does find and match the transaction. However, if the transfer is from my Bank of America account to PayPal Bank, then it does NOT find/match the transaction

Hi @SkyFall,

You'll need to add your PayPal transactions manually for them to post on your sales reports. Let me guide you how.

  1. Go to +New.
  2. Select Invoice or Sales receipt.
  3. Type in the details of your transaction.
  4. Hit Save and close.

After that, match them to your downloaded transactions. Please see this article for details: Connect to PayPal FAQ.

I'm also adding this awesome article about the differences between Connect to PayPal app, Sync with PayPal app, and PayPal Bank Feeds for your reference.

"Find Match" for PayPal Bank is not working

Thank you but this is exactly what I am trying to avoid. I want to figure out a way for QBO to automatically match transactions to my PayPal Bank connected transactions.

It works for transfers into my Bank of America account, but does not for withdrawals from my Bank of America account. How is this not a bug? I am looking for an automatic work around, not a manual solution. My business is highly dependent on PayPal and this not working is not acceptable.

"Find Match" for PayPal Bank is not working

Thank you for responding, but this manual solution is exactly what I am trying to avoid. My business depends heavily on PayPal and I cannot be wasting time on a manual solution when this should work automatically.

As stated before I discovered that when there is a DEPOSIT into my Bank of America account from PayPal Bank, then matching does work. However, when there is a WITHDRAWAL from my Bank of America account into PayPal Bank account, then matching does NOT work.

This appears to be some kind of bug and I would like to hear of a workaround, or letting me know if it is being reported to the development team. I spoke to someone on the phone yesterday to describe my issue, but I did yet have the info I just provided in this post.

Anyone else having this issue with PayPal Bank?

"Find Match" for PayPal Bank is not working

Hello there, @SkyFall.

Let me provide some information about your Paypal Bank in QuickBooks.

The transactions will depend on the Paypal that they will send to QuickBooks. As a workaround, you can follow the steps provided by my colleague above to manually add your Paypal transaction.

To learn more on how to handle downloaded transactions, check these articles:

"Find Match" for PayPal Bank is not working

After reading the reviews on the app "Connect with PayPal" there is no was I am installing it. I do not even understand why this app is even needed. I have added PayPal Bank to my QBO account like any other bank.

QBO has a bug and unfortunately, I keep getting the same very basic advice or telling me I need to enter transactions by hand. I am well aware that I can enter transactions manually. What I am trying to do is find an automated work around AND acknowledgement from the QBO team that this is a bug and that someone is working on it. Small businesses depend greatly on PayPal and something this basic should be addressed.

If the answer is "you are out of luck", then so be it. But, can someone READ and UNDERSTAND my original post, read the new insight (matches work in one direction between accounts but not the other), and make a reasonable (non-newbie) suggestion.
