How can I open my quickbooks 2016 desktop after updating my mac to big sur

The QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2016 is a version that's already discontinued. 

With that said, this specific version is incompatible with the new macOS version. You may consider getting an upgrade to QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2019 or newer, which is a supported version.

Currently, we don't have a specific date when will be the latest release update for the new macOS version. However, you can visit this link to stay in the loop whenever any updates regarding the compatibility of Big Sur to the other versions of QuickBooks for Mac are released: Intuit’s support policy for QuickBooks for Mac running on macOS 11 Big Sur. 

Furthermore, I encourage you to update your QuickBooks regularly. This way, any available updates will sync into the program immediately. Here's how:

1. Go to the QuickBooks ▼ drop-down, then select Check for QuickBooks Updates.
2. If a newer version is available, select Install Update.
3. When prompted, select Install and Relaunch.
4. When the update is complete, QuickBooks for Mac automatically opens.

Let me share some details on how you can open the program and update QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) for Mac.

Since QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2016 is a no longer supported version of QuickBooks. This affects the compatibility and system requirements with Apple's new macOS 11 Big Sur.

You'll want to go back to the old operating system (OS) while we're working on Big Sur. You can reach out to the Macintosh Technical Support Team to revert your OS to the previous version.

Once you're in the old OS, you can create a backup of your company file to ensure you'll have an original copy that you can restore in case of data loss. When done, head to the Download Center at this link to get the latest version of QBDT for Mac.

Once Mac OS Big Sur becomes compatible with QBDT for Mac, you can upgrade again your operating system.
