Manage your QuickBooks Desktop: Download, update, install, or upgrade

Learn how to download, update, install, or upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop.

Find out where to go to get QuickBooks Desktop and which versions are still available. This helps you determine if you need to update or upgrade your software.

Step 1: Find out where to download, update and sign in

  1. Go to the Downloads & Updates page to download your version of QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Get the download link specific to your product. 
  3. Sign in according to your specific role.

Step 2: Download your installation file

  1. From the Downloads & Updates page, select your country, product, and version.
    Note: If you want to know the version that you use, you can always check your product info.
  2. Select Search, then select Download.

You'll need to enter your license and product number when you install QuickBooks Desktop. Here’s how:

  • ProAdvisors: You can view the software details in the ProAdvisor section of QuickBooks Online Accountant.
  • Email: You can find the purchase confirmation email you received from Intuit by checking your Inbox or Spam folder.
  • Account: You can sign in to your account and view your license in the Products & Services section.
  • Original packaging: You can look for the scratch-off label next to the UPC code if you purchased a CD.
  • Lookup Tool: You can use the License Look Up Tool if you’ve already registered your software.

You can reinstall or move your QuickBooks Desktop software to another computer with the migrator tool. This gives you a safer way to move your files and software settings to a new computer.

If all you need to do is update your QuickBooks, you can update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

You can upgrade your company file to a newer version if you already have QuickBooks Desktop. This allows it to work in newer software versions.

You can upgrade your QuickBooks Desktop software for improved security and performance.

Note: Intuit no longer sells QuickBooks Pro or Premier to new customers. If you don't have an active QuickBooks Desktop subscription, we suggest you get QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise.

You can manage older or discontinued versions of QuickBooks Desktop that you can't download. Here is what you can and can't do:

  • New registration: Discontinued products can't be registered for the first time.
  • Re-registration: You can re-register discontinued products if they've been registered before and are being reinstalled.
  • Support: Assisted support for discontinued products is no longer available, but you can contact us to get the validation code.
