@JohannaHarmo You can download the installer file from Intuit website. However, you should contact Fiat Lux and ask them for a trial code.

Another option, you can use the trial version of QB Desktop 2024 without a code.

A clean reinstall of QuickBooks Desktop 2016 (QBDT) will resolve the stuck Split pane, and yes, I recommend uninstalling first for a thorough fix.

Please note that QuickBooks Desktop 2016 is discontinued and incompatible with newer Windows versions, which can cause unexpected behavior. I recommend upgrading to a current version to stay supported with the latest software updates and system improvements.

Before you start, make sure you have your QuickBooks Product and license number, and make a complete backup your company file.

Here's how to perform a clean reinstall:

  1. Close QuickBooks completely on your computer.
  2. Go to Control Panel and select Programs and Features.
  3. Choose QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2016.
  4. Click Uninstall/Change, and follow the on-screen prompts to remove it.
  5. Once uninstalled, reinstall it.
  6. After reinstalling, open the register and verify that the Splits pane is functioning as expected.

Jay:
I appreciate the prompt, complete response. By “newer versions of Windows”, I assume you mean Windows 11?  QB2016 has worked well for years on my Windows 10 systems, plus 1 Windows 11 PC, until recently.

Yes, that's correct. Windows 11 is the newer version of the Windows OS. Since QuickBooks Desktop 2016 is discontinued, it may not work reliably on Windows 11 and could cause unexpected issues. I recommend uninstalling the old version and installing a supported, newer version of QuickBooks Desktop to avoid problems. Alternatively, you can continue using QBDT 2016 on its supported Windows version (Windows 10) with no issues.

@JohannaHarmo What Windows OS do you run? Win 8.1, 10, or 11?

It should also work on Windows 11, I think.
