Incorrect Print Spacing on QuickBooks-Compatible Checks

I recently installed QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2024. After a recent update, I noticed that my default printer for Checks/Paychecks had changed to Microsoft OnNote.  It was no problem to change my printer back over to the correct laser printer.  I used the Alignment feature to make sure that the printed information lined up correctly on my QuickBooks compatible checks (that I have been using successfully for years).  However, when I print more than one check per page, only the TOP check of the page lines up correctly with the pre-printed lines of the check.  The bottom checks are printed progressively worse out of alignment.

Essentially, the printing template for checks in QuickBooks is no longer spaced correctly to match up with my checks.  I have attached a (redacted) printing example on my check stock that shows the problem.

Troubleshooting Done So Far:

  • Adjusting the alignment changes the entire page up and down and there seems to be no way to adjust the spacing in between the checks.
  • I tried opening another company file to see if this issue was unique. It was not. The default printer had changed and the incompatible spacing occurred when printing out of a different company file.
  • I have tried reinstalling the printer and printing on different printers. The spacing issue persists, so it appears to be an issue coming from within QB and is not an issue with the printing device(s).

This appears to be a formatting error in the latest QuickBooks Desktop release.  Will this be fixed soon so that I can print more than a single check at a time?  Thank you!!

Thank you for your prompt reply!

The solution was to manually update each of my printer drivers to the correct manufacturer driver.

I tried all of your recommended steps, except for allowing tech support into my computer (which was an absolute disaster the last time I allowed it, but that's another story).  I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling QB 2024 with no effect.

I kept coming back to the strange situation that my default printer had somehow changed to Microsoft OneNote, so I did some more digging in the printer settings.  It turns out that for some reason ALL my printer drivers had been replaced with the generic "Microsoft IPP Class Driver".  (I have 6 printers from 3 different manufacturers, and every one of them was effected by this problem. Also, each of my computers with Windows 10 or 11 had the same strange driver change happen on them!  Notably, my Windows 8.1 computer was unaffected.)  I neither know how this initially happened nor how the problem was perpetuated during my removal and reinstallation of my printers.

Time will tell if my drivers get arbitrarily changed again...

Incorrect Print Spacing on QuickBooks-Compatible Checks

I'm glad to see you here in the Community, @plusone! Thanks for sharing all the details about the printing issue you've been facing after the QuickBooks Desktop release. I'll make sure to give you some helpful tips and direct you to the right support team who can take a closer look into the matter.

Most printers work well with QuickBooks. Since you've just installed QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2024, it is important to verify whether your system meets the minimum requirements to enable optimal performance when running QuickBooks Desktop 2024. For more details, see this article: System Requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2024.

On the other hand, you'll want to ensure your Adobe Acrobat Reader is updated to prevent the issues you're having. Check the Adobe website for detailed instructions on how to update Adobe Reader/Acrobat. You may also need to repair the installation of Adobe.

However, if the issue persists after updating and repairing your Adobe, I highly suggest contacting our Phone Support team. They're able to check your account using their screen-sharing (remote access) tool and investigate this further. They can also try other troubleshooting steps to fix this for you.

Here's how to get in contact with them:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Go to Help.
  3. Select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  4. Click on the Contact Us link and choose a topic.
  5. Enter your account information and click on Submit.
  6. Click on the Start Message button.

You can also refer to the Support hours and types link to contact us at a time convenient to you. Then, go click QuickBooks Desktop for more details.

Incorrect Print Spacing on QuickBooks-Compatible Checks

The spacing is so off for the Intuit wallet checks they are almost unuseable and my print driver is current.  The align  in QB is useless since it moves all lines of text together
