Inputting mileage on Quickbooks Online (extremely slow)

Hello, is anyone else having issues with the mileage section of Quickbooks Online? Whenever I try to input my mileage from my computer the webpage runs so slowly that it takes me forever just to enter one trip. Unfortunately, customer service has been nearly impossible to get in touch with. I've had this problem since July. I've been using the phone app, but that is slow as well and you can't do round trips from the app, so inputting takes twice as long. Does anyone have any tips?

We haven't received any reports about the latency when entering mileage, futurepathwaysllc.

I can see how important it is for you to track your mileage in QuickBooks Online. We take performance issues seriously. Let's check the following information below to help improve the system performance:

  1. We recommend using Chrome to get the best experience in QBO. If you're using it, please make sure you have the latest release.
  2. Ensure your operating system is updated and you meet or exceed the System Requirements.
  3. Verify your internet speed.

If everything is okay, you might have encountered a cache issue as a result of having too many internet files stored on your browser. To fix it, we can do some troubleshooting steps. Let's start by accessing your account on an incognito window. This mode help since it doesn't store any site data.

Here are the shortcut keys to use:

  • Google Chrome: Press CTRL + Shift + N.
  • Safari: Press Command + Shift + N.
  • Mozilla Firefox: Press CTRL + Shift + P.

Go back to your regular browser and clear its cache if it works. This will remove all browsing history and refreshes the system. You can also use a different supported browser.

If the issue persists, I recommend reaching out to our QuickBooks Online Support. They have the tool to pull up your account and submit a ticket for further investigation.

Support hours are from Monday to Friday from 6 AM to 6 PM PT and Saturday 6 AM to 3 PM PT.

Additionally, you can visit our Help Articles page at any time. Here you can find topics and discussions to help you in completing some of your QuickBooks tasks.

I'll be here if you need further assistance in QuickBooks. Have a great day.

Neither my cache or using an incognito window solved the issue. It has gotten SO frustrating. I have tried multiple times to get this issue solved. My partner used to fix computers and is now a software developer. I had him take a look at this issue as well. He said that it's simply a problem on QB's end. I believe him because we've tried to solve the issue on 3 different computers, on incognito mode, and in a few different browsers (including Chrome). I don't have time to sit on chat for a 3rd time with QB Help because they usually spend the first 25 minutes running through the same questions, no matter what I say in my original message to them. The customer service is honestly so slow that it may just be worth finding a different bookkeeping software at this point.

I have just tried clearing my cache and incognito mode on Chrome (again). It doesn't work. My partner is a former computer repair person and current software developer. He has tried on his computer as well. He said it's simply an issue with QB. Unfortunately, I don't have time to sit on ANOTHER chat with QB support. No matter what I put in my original message they run through the same questions for the first 25 minutes and then can't help. I think I should consider switching to another bookkeeping software at this point. My bank account always gets disconnected from the site as well. It just doesn't seem like a great system anymore.

I have had the same issue for months. I have put off categorizing my miles since may in hopes that the issue would be resolved. Sad to see QB saying they aren't aware of the issue. Categorizing 150 trips/month is not fun on the App.

This is not the impression we wish to leave you with, @CGPrec23

The most frequently used pages in QuickBooks Online should load in under 10 seconds. We continuously check our systems to make sure we are achieving this target.

Although QuickBooks Online is a web-based service, it also depends on the processing speed, RAM size, and Internet connection bandwidth of your computer or device to function as intended. A deficiency might impact performance in any area.

With that said, I recommend checking that your system meets the basic requirments to help narrow down the reason for the slow preformance.

If your system seems to fit the basic requirements, you can always check the speed of your internet conntion (bandwidth) by running a Google Speed Test

You can see alternative ways to improve your speed in Why is my QuickBooks Online slow?

However, if none of these suggestions are working for you, I recommend contacting our Technical Support Team. Our engineers have an ongoing investigation (INV-80477) for this concern.

By contacting our tech support, an agent can review your account in a secure envioment and get you added to the list of affected users. This way, you'll receive email updates of the progress of the investigation and will be notified once it's resolved.

Please let me know if you have any follow up questions or concerns. Take care!

Inputting mileage on Quickbooks Online (extremely slow)

This was not a problem in previous versions of QuickBooks desktop. The slow loading started in QuickBooks 2023, or whatever version moved the mileage tracking program from the desktop app to an online loader. This did nothing to improve vehicle mileage tracking capability, but instead made everything slower.

The desktop version allowed the job number to be typed, with the list being character sensitive. Just like with timesheets, the client name or job would pop up as the name was being typed. Now only the client name will pop up. The entire list must be scrolled through to use a job number or name. Very cumbersome. The class and the item will pop up when typing, but it takes a long time before it does. Sometimes it's faster to scroll through the list. The Vehicle is not character sensitive, and the user must scroll through the list.

In short, QuickBooks took an already cludgy dialogue box and made it worse. Oh, and now we have to buy an annual license at $1K per pop instead of a once-every-three year $350 downloadable or CD upgrade. Way to go QuickBooks. More cost, less quality. I hope the CEO got a raise.
