QB Enterprise 2020 Edition
When making bills and invoices that are dated more than 2-4 days before the current date, QB takes about a minute to two minutes to process. I have narrowed the problem down to being - it is a few line items I have that are in the negative.
If we make bills/invoices that are dated the same day - no problem. Try to go back a few days - and the screen gets stuck on "recording transaction" for about 2 minutes. I can't even edit an invoice from over a week ago because it makes QB have to force quit. I have to save the file as a PDF and then edit it on my computer.
I have done the following NUMEROUS times:
-verify and rebuild
-rename file
-relocate file
-uninstall and reinstall QB
I have stayed on the phone with QB agents for literally hours.
The case was escalated to QB Data team and they returned the file saying they had fixed the issue. They didn't. The problem still exists.
I cannot send the file to QB Data Team again - I had to re-enter every single transaction we did in the time it took QB to review the file. Sure they warn you of this - but it took them 6 days to return the file to me. Who on here cannot operate their business for 6 days? Ridiculous. I had to run payroll in that time frame, invoice numerous customers, run credit cards, and enter drafts for large amounts. Truly unbelievable that QB's only solution is to send the file in and wait. I am so frustrated and am hoping someone on here has experienced this problem and found a solution.
Edited to add - another user commented on his post that he was having a similar problem and discovered it was FIFO messing him up.
I do have FIFO on -- but I can't turn it off! We used to use average costing and QB grossly messed up our P&L because the average cost was so off.
We sell fuel. The price changes daily - sometimes even during the day- and QB was using an average cost for many years. We were purchasing fuel for $1.75 and QB's average cost was $.92. I need to use FIFO, but also don't want it to take forever to make invoices.
Hello, @stevendupuisoil.
I appreciate you for trying the different solutions to process invoices and bills seamlessly. Let's perform some additional troubleshooting steps to resolve this right away. Usually, when clicking the Save and Close or Save button, the transaction will automatically be saved and won't take a minute or two to process it. Since you've experienced a longer time to save them, this could be caused by the following:
For now, I recommend running the Quick Fix my Program from the QuickBooks Tool Hub to fix the uncommon issues in your software. Here's how:
However, if the issue persists, you may consider upgrading your QBDT software to the latest version available or update your software to the latest release. This way, you can keep QuickBooks up-to-date and ensure to have the latest features and fixes.
If that doesn't make any difference, I encourage getting back to our Support Team so a representative can open the previous case you had, and investigate this behavior securely. To contact support, select QuickBooks Desktop Help from the Help menu, then tap on the Contact Us button.

I have done all of this ... NUMEROUS times. I cannot begin to tell you how many hours I have spent the last two weeks with QB help and going through the same steps you mention.
I appreciate you for trying those troubleshooting steps, @stevendupuisoil.

I am having this EXACT same problem. Started happening around the same time as the posts.
Did you get a solution that isn't turning FIFO off?
Its so frustrating to call in to Intuit and they regurgitate the same things over and over that I've already done. I feely our pain!
Hi Ben,
I appreciate you letting us know about this.
I understand that businesses need to have sufficient tools that don't eat much of the time of the workers. I would recommend contacting our Enterprise Support to check your company file, and they can gather more details to investigate this. I know you've already done this, but I would appreciate doing it again until we get to the bottom of the issue.
If you have other questions, just comment below.
I already contacted Intuit support. I've spent 10+ hours on the phone with them over the last 4 weeks.
They all have the same checklist, which i've done multiple times:
Even Intuit's support team members admit that FIFO and Advanced Inventory isn't something they can support well.
When I turn FIFO off, the transactions immediately speed up. When I turn it back on, the same transaction CRAWLS. Just changing the date of a sales order from September to November take 10 minutes. But after I change it, I can invoice it like normal. Sales orders written today work great.
I can't delete some PO's either - IE - an open PO form July take 30+ minutes to delete. Again - i turn FIFO off and the same PO deletes immediately.
Its acting like FIFO is calculating for open sales orders and unreceived PO's. Which makes no sense because FIFO should only be based on the date of the invoice and receipt of a PO right?
I appreciate you for performing all the troubleshooting steps to resolve this issue, @ben_g.
Yes, you're right FIFO will base on the date of the invoice and receipt of a purchase order. It's an accounting method in which assets purchased or acquired first are dispose of or the firsts sold.
Also, I'd like to inform you that this issue has already been reported to our product engineers/developers. I know that you already called but I'd still suggest contacting them again so you'll be added to the list of affected users. Once added, you'll automatically receive an email notification with the latest updates. Just provide this investigation number for easy tracking: INV-35069.
Here's how you can get in touch with an agent:
For now, the only options we have are to work in single-user mode or to turn off FIFO as a workaround.

@JoesemM - it doesn't work right in single user mode either. Saving the same transaction in single user did not work for me.
My customer is having the same issue. The only thing I have found that works is rebooting the server. My guess is the Quickbooks is having a memory leak or the database has consumed all memory and it is starting to use virtual memory (using hard drive space as virtual memory - it is much slower). Rebooting will load everything fresh. This usually works for a few days. Scheduling the system to reboot overnight is the only thing that has worked so far.
Quickbooks should move to SQL server to hold data. They cling to old proprietary technology to keep users from being able to move to another software package.
