Item Notes Disappear (Enterprise Solutions-Mfg and Wholesale)

"Notes" disappear for Non-Inventory Part after entry. They save sometime and disappear at random.

I see options for work arounds-however what is the proper function of item "Notes" if I can not enter, well a note for future reference?

Item Notes Disappear (Enterprise Solutions-Mfg and Wholesale)

Good day, @safoglio.

Can you share with me which section of QuickBooks Desktop you're trying to save the note for non-inventory items? I'd also appreciate it if you can add more details about the concern and share a screenshot with us.

Please add your details to this thread and I'll be more than happy to help you back. Have a good one.

List>>select an item>>Edit Item (see the Scree shot attached)

The notepad is where we add information needed for this particular item.

These notes often disappear after saved causing a lot of confusion and frustration.

Thanks for providing a screenshot and adding clarification, @safoglio. I know some cause by the disappearing QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) notes in your list item. Let me share some troubleshooting to fix the issue.

Once you have entered the necessary information in the notepad and clicked OK, a dialog box asking if you want to save the changes should appear. To keep the notes, click the  OK button in this dialog box.

See the screenshot below for your reference.

If you've done these steps and the issue persists, you'll want to ensure your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) is updated to the latest release. This way, we can guarantee the program runs with the newest fixes and patches. I'll show you how.

  1. Go to the Help menu, and select Update QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Select the Update Now tab.
  3. Click Get Updates to start the download.
  4. When the download finishes, restart QuickBooks.
  5. Then accept the option to install the new release when prompted.

Refer to this link for more details: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.

If this issue persists, I suggest downloading our QuickBooks Tool Hub and running the Quick Fix My File to fix this issue. You can refer to the steps outlined in this article: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.

If you want to learn how to track your inventory at different locations, refer to the steps outlined in this article: Set up Advanced Inventory.

You can always get back to me if you have any other concerns about inventories in QBDT. I'll be around to help you anytime!

Item Notes Disappear (Enterprise Solutions-Mfg and Wholesale)

I just updated our company to the 2024 Quickbooks Enterprise - Manufacturing and Wholesale yesterday.  I have an employee who would like to start utilizing the Notepad feature within the inventory items.  She has commented to me that these notes are not saving.  I tried to add a note from my admin user profile and it is not saving.  Any suggestions?  Is there a known glitch with this feature?

There have been no reported cases similar to yours, Whaley.

Data damage may have caused unexpected behavior in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), leading to not saving the notes within the inventory items. To address this issue, we will follow a series of troubleshooting steps to verify and rebuild your company file. These recommended actions are specifically designed to help you resolve common problems in QuickBooks.

Let me guide you through the steps:

Verify data (scan company file for errors or data damage)

  1. Close all windows by going to Window and selecting Close All.
  2. Navigate to the File menu and select Utilities
  3. Select Verify Data. If you see:
    a. QuickBooks detected no problems with your data—your data is clean, and you don’t need to do anything else.
    b. An error message—search for it on our QuickBooks Desktop support site for how to fix it.
    c. Your data has lost integrity—Data damage was found in the file. Rebuild your data to fix it.

For detailed steps on rebuilding your company data, I recommend referring to this article: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop. It provides comprehensive instructions on how to perform the process to ensure the integrity of your company data in QuickBooks.
