Line items dragging while trying to select text

Anyone else being driven mad over the line items dragging while you're trying to select text? Whether you're trying to select some text to copy and paste it or to edit/delete - you can no longer select text without QB trying to drag the entire line item somewhere else. Used to, if you wanted to drag and move a line item you simply dragged it by the little handle on the left of the line item and you could select and edit text normally the same way you can in any other software. Why would QB make this change other than to drive us crazy?? It's not an improvement, it's just one in a long list of constant changes they make for no other reason than to make their product less functional and to drive their customers crazy.

 

Quickbooks - let me save you from conjuring up another one of your nails on a chalkboard auto responses.

"I understand your frustration. This is not what we want to hear from our customers. We've made this wonderful improvement for your benefit, we have no intention of correcting the issue - You're welcome!"

I hear your sentiments, Teletoast. Let's figure out why your line items are dragging while trying to select text.

 

First off, may I know what transaction you're trying to edit? If you're referring to line items on your invoices/estimates, you may be using the new layout experience. It could be the cause of why you can drag the line items when selecting a text. To avoid this from happening, we can switch to the old interface. For visual reference, I've added screenshots below.

 

For Invoices

However, if you're already in the old layout and experience line items dragging, accumulated cache files in your browser may cause these. To sort this out, We can do some basic troubleshooting steps. Start by opening a private browser or an incognito window on your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account. Based on your browser type, please refer to the keyboard shortcuts below:

 

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

 

After signing in, go to your line items and select a text to edit. If this resolves the problem, return to your default browser and clear the cache to refresh the page. Alternatively, you can also use other supported browsers

Clearing cache and restarting the browser did not work.

Since these steps didn't work, I recommend submitting your feedback to our Product Developers so they can consider adding this back in the near future. Here's how: 

 

  1. Go to the Gear icon in the top right-hand corner. 
  2. Press the Feedback option. 
  3. Enter your suggestions. 
  4. Tap Next to submit your feedback.

So what you're saying is this is not a malfunction but yet again one of the many many, so called QB "improvements" that make QB terrible to work with. A quick scroll through the problems posted by users on this site your customers, in mass, are sick of dealing the the constant changes that make everything harder to use. Do you have any idea how much time I've wasted reporting these "improvement" malfunctions through the feedback option you have suggested and never received a response or had the issue corrected? Feedback option is a black hole going to nowhere. They don't care or listen to what customers want - they roll out endless changes of what they want despite our needs or complaints.

Did you find a solution to this? I'm having the same issue, I just want to select a line of text but instead it wants to grab the box and move it around. There's no way this is intentional is there lol. How are we supposed to select a certain line of text if this is the new format?

Hi there, office-fireprote. I can see you're having difficulties copying text on your invoice.

 

If you find working with the new layout challenging, you can switch back to the old layout to easily copy texts.

 

Here's how:

 

  1. Go to Sales. Then, select Invoices.
  2. Look for an invoice to open.
  3. On the upper right corner, click the Old layout to switch back.

 

However, if there is no option to switch back, I recommend sending feedback to our product developers to request a feature that allows copying text without dragging.


Here's how:

 

  1. Sign in to your QBO account.
  2. Click the Gear icon at the top, then Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Press Next.

 

Once done, our designated team will review it. You can track your future requests through the QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website.

 

As a workaround, you can follow these helpful steps in copying selected text in your invoice:

 

  • To copy all the text on the field, you can Press Ctrl + A. Then, Ctrl + C to copy.
  • To copy some selected text, press Shift + arrow left or right. Then, Ctrl + C to copy.

This has not been an issue until today. It happens with the quickbooks online desktop app as well as any browser.

 

This is an age old crap response of submitting feedback, that never works.  I have been a loyal quickbooks user for almost 20 years.  Of all of the issues i have experienced with qb over the years this is right up there with data corrupted files oddly changing calculations and inaccurate trial balances.

All of us are experiencing this same issue now. To clarify, we are using the OLD template already, have already tried using incognito browser windows, and have cleared the cache, all without solving the line item dragging issue when trying to select specific text. There is no current solution to this issue that you have provided.

 

This is a huge glitch and needs to be addressed. It is making my estimates take so much longer. What an incredibly inefficient "update."

@TeleToast  I swear, every time I see a QuickBooks representative suggest that it is a browser issue, it feels like hearing a manufacturer of square tires blaming automobile manufacturers for the poor performance of said tires.

 

It's just fascinating how basically every other website and app out there has no problem existing, and yet, here QuickBooks Online is.

Same issue here, I'm seriously considering switching to some other accounting software now, this is ridiculous.

 

Quickbooks, if you want to add the option to drag and drop line items, do it only using a little icon on the left of the line items, THEN it would be a useful feature. Now we can't select text using our cursor, which is a MAJOR software glitch.

Has anyone else noticed spellcheck is now broken as well?  It underlines the word in red as it does with any other program or webpage. But the suggestions are not there

 

For all of you equally frustrated.  What other programs have you looked at?  I need the basics of accounting that qb promises. I need to be able to create items and custom chart of accounts.  It would be nice to have integrated banking, merchant services as well as integration with online sales stores. With this particular business need, i am a sole proprietor with no employees. So payroll is not a necessary function.

I am giving the trial of zoho a shot. Im intrigued by Xero.

Having the exact sam issue. Cannot select text anymore on line items of an invoice. Instead the action of double clicking on the text initiates movement of the whole line item block. Please fix this ASAP. There are so many other things wrong with this software and we don't need another issue to try to figure a way around it. I mean, this software cannot even save an invoice as a PDF with the invoice number on it!!

The invoice number on pdf's!!! EXACTLY! That was one of their other great "improvement" malfunctions of the week. It used to do that and changed it so that it doesn't. WHY?!?!? They have all the makings of a great product, they just keep ruining it and it almost seems intentional. Is QB owned by a foreign adversary trying to wreck our economy by slowing us down and driving us crazy?
