Buy nowI read the article, but it doesn't mention QB Enterprise https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/money-movement/microsoft-ending-suppo...
We can pay for Windows 10 security updates for at least a year longer, I don't want to replace a bunch of good PCs, and we have custom software that integrates with QB. Is Intuit going to block me from using desktop Enterprise after October 14? Or limit its use in any way? We do not use QB for payroll, credit card processing, or any other service.
No. You can still run QB Desktop 2024 after October 2024.
Thanks for taking the time to reach out to the QuickBooks Community, @pt123.
How are you doing today? I hope all is well.
You can continue using QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise on Windows 10 for now. QuickBooks is fully supported on both Windows 10 and Windows 11. However, Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. After that date, Windows 10 will no longer receive security updates, and QuickBooks will also no longer support running on that operating system.
That means you don’t have to upgrade right away, but we do recommend planning ahead. Moving to Windows 11 (or a newer supported operating system) before October 2025 will help keep your QuickBooks data safe, including sensitive customer and employee information, and ensure you remain fully supported.
Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any additional questions or concerns. Take care!
Appears QuickBooks is recommending to upgrade to Windows 11 due to security updates being discontinued By Microsoft on Oct 14, 2025.
Some are buying Extended service contracts with Microsoft for their Windows 10 O.S.
Will QuickBooks continue to work with those?
Will QuickBooks continue to work and update using the the following version...
I am using Quickbooks Enterprise desktop
I am running Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC (Long Term Service Channel) Version 10.0.17763 Build 17763 version 1809
Microsoft states this version will continue to receive security updates until January 9th, 2029
please advise
I understand that there are users of QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) having a challenge upgrading to Windows 11 because of the extended contracts they have with the operating system, @MOP56. I also appreciate your gesture for sharing essential details of your concern as well as for asking specific questions to achieve your goal. Nothing to worry, I have information that can answer your queries.
As my colleague stated above, QBDT Enterprise will continue to work even if you do not update your Microsoft Windows to 11. But your QuickBooks data, including sensitive info from customers and employees will be at security risk and you will still be advised to update your operating system to help protect them.
Once the specified date of Microsoft comes that they will no longer provide security updates or support to the older version, QBDT will also follow it.
This means, if QBDT has an update, it might ruin your account or not work because Windows 10 is not a suitable operating system for it, since the new one will have functions that are not available to the previous structure.
For other queries that you forgot to raise here, check out this article to learn more about the future updates Microsoft is implementing: Microsoft is ending support for Windows 10 OS.
The security of your business data in QBDT is our utmost priority; that is why implementing updates, especially when it comes to the operating system is essential. Feel free to return here if you need additional clarity with the changes.
Hi there, the provided answer seems as confusing and contradictory as the official Intuit statement.
"QBDT Enterprise will continue to work even if you do not update your Microsoft Windows to 11."
"Once the specified date of Microsoft comes that they will no longer provide security updates or support to the older version, QBDT will also follow it."
As the original poster asked, will getting the extended service plan for security updates for Windows 10 ensure that Quickbooks will continue working on Windows 10 systems?
I will explain how the end of support for Windows 10 affects QuickBooks Desktop, GlowStore.
Please know that QBDT will continue to function on Windows 10, even though Microsoft will no longer support this OS after October 14, 2025. However, it is important to note that any future QuickBooks security updates or patches released after this date will be specifically tailored for supported operating systems only.
While obtaining an extended service plan offers various benefits, it does not guarantee that updates will include the unsupported operating systems.
Feel free to leave any additional questions in the comments, and we'll be happy to help.
I have QBs Accountant Desktop 2024 - If I haven't upgraded to ver 11 as of October 14, will I still be able to use my program for payroll purposes? Seems I need to get a new computer as mine isn't compatible to 11.
I appreciate you bringing this up, Baabs. Let me clarify everything so you have the correct information and next steps.
Your QuickBooks Desktop Accountant 2024 will continue to work for payroll after Microsoft ends support for Windows 10. However, since your computer is not compatible with version 11, and Windows 10 will be unsupported, it will not receive security updates or technical support.
While QuickBooks itself will continue to function, Intuit will concentrate its troubleshooting and updates on supported systems. To safeguard your business and ensure reliable payroll processing, it is advisable to plan for an upgrade to a new computer that is compatible with Windows 11 and QuickBooks version 11.
Please feel free to revisit this channel with any further questions.
Thanks. New question... I have a client who may risk it and not upgrade. I typically back up his information and work on it in my office. Will I be able to upload his information to his file in my office - or ?
You're welcome, Baabs.
Yes, you can upload your client's information by updating their company file to the version you're using to ensure compatibility. The file will remain accessible as long as the QuickBooks Desktop version matches the company file's version year.
Please note that this process is irreversible. Once the company file is converted, it can't be reverted. Since the company file has been updated, you can't transfer the information back to your client.

As I stated Before, I have Windows 10 LTSC (Long Term Service Channel) I continue to receive updates from Microsoft (an will until 2029). Yet this morning this is what I saw when I logged in to Quickbooks (below) I had no choice but to press "accept" if I wanted access to my file...
I'm sure from Intuit's perspective, LTSC users are very few and they wouldn't bother about it.
Yes - what the "do' or "don't do" is far different from what they said
We are getting the prompt "Unsupported Windows 10 OS Detected" and won't let us continue until we enter the word "Yes". However we are using Windows Server 2022 21H2 which is still a supported OS.
We are using Retail 24.0 Release R16P of Quickbooks Desktop Enterprise.
Are any of your users accessing the QB server with their Win 10 PC?
Thanks for getting involved with this thread, tzshaner.
If you're using Windows 10, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates or support for PCs running Windows 10 after October 14, 2025. For this reason, it isn't recommended to use QuickBooks 2004 on Windows 10. The installation of QuickBooks isn't blocked currently, but it's highly recommended that you use a supported version of Windows to confirm your data's secure.
Microsoft currently supports to following operating systems which are compatible with QuickBooks 2024:
Linux and Windows 10 S Mode aren't supported. QuickBooks requires that you use Windows natively and not through an emulator or virtual environment.
You can learn more about your product's system requirements by reviewing our System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2024 article.
If you meet all requirements, but are still encountering the message, I'd recommend getting in touch with our Customer Care team. They'll be able to pull up your account in a secure environment, conduct further research with you, and create an investigation ticket if necessary.
I'll be here to help if there's any additional questions. Have a great Monday!
It is a remote desktop server that all my users are remoting into. Their individual desktops are all windows 11 machines.
The only computer that has quickbooks on it, is the remote desktop server running on Server 2022 21H2.
Same scenario here with Server 2019 Standard. QB Support said they will roll out an update later this week.
Same thing on my Win Server 2019. Anybody know how to suppress the warning?
I am also seeing this issue with Windows Server 2019. If anyone knows when they will put a patch out or has a workaround please let me know.
We're also getting the "unsupported OS warning" on Windows Server 2019 Standard. Intuit dropped the ball on OS detection badly.
I get the "unsupported OS" warning despite the fact that I'm using my MacBook to access QBE running on Windows Server 2019 Standard with the Windows App.
