QB shutting down

Is anyone else having problems with QuickBooks Desktop Pro 2021closing itself down immediately after signing in?

I have tried 10 times today without success.  I even tried, "Run as Administrator,"

but that hasn't worked either.  I can't work if I can't even get the dang software to open up!!

There are times, if I hurry and click on a task, it will remain open...but this has been an

issue for awhile, and it is time for QuickBooks to FIX it, because it is NOT working today!

I friend of mine says she has the same problem.

Please help....

Yes, lots of people are seeing this issue. It's been going on for months now. See:

https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/other-questions/quickbooks-desktop-pro-2021-crashe...

https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/other-questions/quickbook-desktop-2022-crashing-an...

Ignore every shred of advise from any Intuit Employee on these threads, as none of it works. Some of the other advise may work to some extent.

Thank you for your response.  I also spoke with a representative from QB, and he helped me clear the

cache in the folder %temp% on my computer....which allowed me to finally get into QB to work.  Today, however, it is back to crashing again.

I have found that if I can get the home page to load, and quickly get into a task, then my chances of it remaining open are greater.  But this has gone on for way too long and QB needs to resolve this issue!

Maybe if we all call in and file a complaint, they would look for a faster resolution??

This isn't what I want you to experience when opening QuickBooks, jessli1. Let me make it up to you by making sure this gets resolved.

First, let's run the  Verify and Rebuild Data utilities to get this sorted out. The Verify Data utility identifies potential data damage issues while the Rebuild Data repairs it in your company file.

Verify data

  1. Click Window then Close All.
  2. Choose File then Utilities.
  3. Select Verify Data.
  4. If you see: "QuickBooks detected no problems with your data" (no further action is needed), "Your data has lost integrity" (Continue to the steps below to Rebuild Data), or specific error messages visit  the QuickBooks Desktop support site and search the error.

Rebuild data

  1. Go to File.
  2. Select Utilities then Rebuild Data.
  3. You will receive a warning message to backup your company file, press OK.
  4. The Rebuild Data utility starts as soon as the backup is finished.
  5. Click OK when you get the message "Rebuild has completed".

Second, I suggest downloading our QuickBooks Tool Hub. This checks your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) software for issues and self-resolves them. Let me show you how.

  1. Close your QuickBooks.
  2. Download our QuickBooks Tool Hub
  3. Open the file you downloaded (QuickBooksToolHub.exe).
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to install.
  5. When the install finishes, open the tool hub on your Windows desktop.
  6. Select Program Problems.
  7. Click Quick Fix my Files.
  8. Start QuickBooks Desktop and open your data file.

You can also check this article for more insights and troubleshooting steps: Fix common problems and errors with the QuickBooks Desktop Tool Hub.

If the issue continues, I'd recommend contacting our support team. They have tools to help check your system in a secure environment and perform more troubleshooting steps.

  1. Go to Help, and then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Select the Contact Us button.
  3. Enter a brief description of your concern in the What can we help you with? field and click Continue.
  4. Choose a way to connect.

If the program continues to crash, you can follow the additional steps outlined in this article: Solutions for When QuickBooks Stops Working.

I appreciate your patience while we’re working through this. Reach out to me with whatever questions you may have about QuickBooks. I’m here to assist further. Have a good one.

I am getting ready to attempt these steps - because this past week - I have noticed that I will open my QBD Premier, and I log-in, and within a blink it has shut off. I don't know what is going on, because it has never done this before. But it cannot be good for the program since i have to close the file a certain way. I am praying this works and glad to see that I am not the only one.

My program just started doing this same thing this week.  I'm about fed up with QB problems  I could keep paper ledgers faster than all the problems with this program. Truly.

I have completed all the steps and STILL my computer is shutting down. I even clicked on File and Home - and thought it would stay open, but it shut down. What is the deal? This is annoying! It has been going on for WEEKS.

I'd want to resolve the crashing problem from happening to you and other users as soon as possible, @jschwartz20.

I appreciate all the work you put into using the suggested workaround above. Our number one priority is to fix the QuickBooks Desktop crashing problem. I have a different solution to the problem, so you can get back where you left off.

Ensure that your QuickBooks Desktop is in the latest release, updated patch, and meets the system requirements to isolate the crash issue. Please note that QuickBooks requires you to use Windows natively and not through an emulator or virtual environment.

Once confirmed and the issue persists, I'd suggest doing a clean install so Windows can fix company file issues.

Do the following:

  1. Search for Control Panel in the Windows Start menu.
  2. Pick Programs and Features or Uninstall a Program.
  3. Choose your version, then click Uninstall/Change and hit Remove

After that, reinstall QuickBooks Desktop. If this didn't fix your issue, I'd recommend following Solution 2 in this article: Clean install QuickBooks Desktop.

If the issue remains, our technical support is always welcome to investigate the problem further. Follow these instructions:

  1. Go to this QBDT help link.
  2. Select your product and click Continue.
  3. Enter your concern in the box and tap Continue.
  4. Choose either Chat with us or Have us call you
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

To get a prompt response, ensure to call them during business hours.

Moreover, you can use these articles if you've encountered an installation error and other related matters:

I'll be in my bunk, so please let me know if you need any other assistance with QuickBooks. Just send me a message. Keep safe always.

I'll add my voice to the same complaint. We have Desktop Pro 2020 and it just randomly exits the program without any error messages. No problem logging back in but it sure is a waste of time!
