Quickbooks 12.0 - The Version of Quickbooks Desktop Point Of Sale you are using does not support credit/debt card transactions

We use Quickbooks Point of Sale 12.0.  We do not use Quickbooks to process credit / debit card transactions.  However, this morning when I went to reverse an order placed today which was marked as credit (assuming it will be the same for debit), the software gives me the following prompt:  "The version of Quickbooks Desktop Point of Sale you are using does not support Credit/Debit card transaction anymore.  Please consider upgrading your Quickbooks Desktop Point of Sale to latest version."

 

First off, no I won't.  Why...because the software license we purchased from Intuit outright should work the same from the first day I purchased the software until the day I no longer use it.  Why you decided to shut this off and especially companies like myself that use your software, but don't rely on Intuit to process payments is unacceptable.  On top of that, no notice was given of this change.  In short, a big old screw you to the customers / retailers, etc., that purchased your software expecting the functionality of the software purchased outright to continue.  

 

If you want to shut this down, great.  Then offer those who use your software a free upgrade to a version of Quickbooks POS that allows us to continue working with your software (I don't need a new version, but a version that has that functionality enabled.  Either that, or re-enable the ability for stores like mine that use Quickbooks POS for everything else but the actual credit card processing.  I don't need an upgrade because QB 12.0 does what I need it to do (sales entry as we use Clover POS for our point of sale processing as well as credit card transactions and we just copy over those sales into QB to be able to do the back end, inventory control and purchase orders).

 

I am just extremely upset that Intuit can just turn off any aspect of physical software / license purchased by a consumer.  By degrading your software, Intuit is in short robbing us of our software in order for them to make more money on upgrading the software.  I am even contemplating contacting our attorney for any legal remedies that may available to us.

QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale released a service discontinuation earlier this year. We notify our customers in advance through the mail, email, and in-product notifications.

I went ahead and sent the feedback that may or may not be read or answered.

 

However, I am going a step further and posting it here since my guess is that this will go unanswered and this issue should be fixed as it was working prior to the software end of life.

 

"Good afternoon. I have an issue with reverse issue in sales history. As of 07/08/2021 I could do a reversal with no issue. Thanks for sharing your concern about the credit/debit card transaction reversal with us. Please know that all feedback sent to us is heard by our QuickBooks team. 

 

Since you're prompted to upgrade your QBDT Point of Sale to the latest version, make sure to update it first to its latest release. Then, follow the steps in upgrading your company file. Here's how: 

 

  1. Open the new version of QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale.
  2. Go to Company Operations from the File menu, then choose Convert from previous version
  3. Click Next, then enter the Company Name for your converted data file, then select the Previous Version of QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale that you are converting from.

 

Once completed, you can access all of your data in the new version of Point of Sale. See this article for more insights: Upgrade your company file . 

 

Should you need to have your issue escalated, I'd recommend you contact our Customer Care team so they can create a case ticket for your concern and forward it to our escalation team.

we are having the SAME problem...  and I feel the SAME way with Intuit.

 

Was this ever resolved? 

I now have a $2000+ receipt I need to reverse but CAN NOT!

I have the same issue. Doing a refund regardless of the method of payment is a basic feature of a point of sale system. Restricting that and forcing users to upgrade is not a good business practice. Do we have a resolution to this issue?

Have the same issue. Reversing a transaction is a basic feature of a point of sale, not allowing that is making the product useless. This is not a good business practice by intuit

It indicated that for that functionality, I had to upgrade to the newest version of Quickbooks Point of Sale.  Our version of Quickbooks Point of Sale is up to date.

 

The simple problem is this, Quickbooks decided to shut off the credit / debit transactions, but did not realize that by doing so the software would now be limited.  You want to turn off credit / debit processing on older versions of Quickbooks, knock yourselves out.  However, don't degrade the actual software to accomplish that goal.

 

Others are having the same issue and this is something that can be corrected internally by rectifying the programming and a new patch to allow reversals while still not allowing credit card processing to occur.

 

I don't think it's a big ask to fix something Intuit broke.   We paid for this software and we should have the core functionality intact.  

 

Please understand I have zero need to upgrade this software to a newer or the newest version of Quickbooks Point of Sale.  I also run Quickbooks Premier 2015.  Will you be shutting stripping functionality out of that at some point as well at your leisure?

 

Please fix your mistake and allow the core software to function normally.  Thank you.

I have some information about creating refunds. Currently, the option to turn off the upgrade prompt is unavailable. I can see how your experience would help us provide a more customer-friendly interface product. You'll want to send feedback to our engineers to help improve the product.

 

To do it, just go to Help and then select Send Feedback.

Hi, we have already sent the feedback. We are not doing credit card processing thru quickbooks. Quickbooks point of sale and quickbooks credit card processing are two separate things, please do not mix them. All we are asking is to be able to reverse a transaction in quickbooks point of sale regardless of the method of payment for people who are using their own credit card processing. Currently this feature is removed from qb pos 12.0 making it difficult for us to work every day.

As my peer @RenjolynC stated above, this specific feature you mentioned is unavailable since the QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale version is discontinued. You'll need to update the product to the latest version to continue using this feature. Contact our QuickBooks Point of Sale Care for this matter.

As of July 9th, when I last had to do a return before I posted the issue, I was able to issue a refund without an issue.  How is that possible if you discontinued access to add-on services??

NO!!!! Incorrect.  The product does not work for us because sometime between the EOL (end of life) of the software and July 10th posting, something was done to in short screw this up.

I did not add those features when I purchased the software or in any of the patches / updates until such time as you discontinued the product.  Credit card processing was included in the original software, was not an add on.  Refunds and exchanges were not added-on, that was part of the original software.  I hope you see where I am going with this please.  

 

Once again, if you want to turn off credit card processing, go for it.  Never used it.  However, when turning off a "add-on feature" impacts the operation of the original software, this becomes an issue.  I should not need to upgrade the software because you decided to turn off something that is not used by myself and I promise you a vast majority of users and then the "unintended consequence" is degrading the program.  What's next, invoicing....purchase orders??

 

So, let's try this again....can you please get in there and turn off the credit card processing without screwing up the rest of the program....pretty please?  I don't think it's something too complicated to address and resolve for the users of your software who paid good money to have software that works as originally intended.  If not, extend those users a new version of your software to make up for the degrading of the software.  Unintended consequences are still consequences.

*There is no info about removing a basic feature of the software.  Only "Add On" services are supposed to be removed.... and I'm fine with that.  But, now I have a $2000 CASH Sale (CASH = No Payment Service; Inuit has no part in it, no credit card, no transferring of info, NOTHING.) that I now can NOT Reverse??

 

My salesman made a typo: but, now I can not reverse a CASH sale receipt?!?!?  How can this be acceptable?

 

I did NOT subscribe to ANY subscriptions... so why are you changing software that I purchased?

 

NOTE: I have submitted two Feedbacks (weeks ago), still with no reply.  I have done a live chat, asked for a manager to call... that was 1.5 weeks ago -still no call.  I do not look forward to contacting Inuit again, since it usually results in many hours of my life wasted and nothing being done.

 

I can tell Intuit does not care.

 

Removing Features that were Not upgrades or Add-ons?... Maybe I should let our attorney contact them?  Anyone else want to get on this band wagon?  Give me a call.

I cannot begin to comprehend how they can do something like this after the fact.

 

So, this is how it works.

1.  We send Intuit feedback on broken software

2.  They receive the feedback

3.  They ignore it

4.  Rinse and repeat.

 

Until companies can be held accountable for shady practices like this, we the consumer lose and the corporations win and the corporations don't care in the process.  There was a time when corporations stood behind their products and did the right thing to ensure that the customers that pay for their goods and/or services were the # 1 priority.  Sadly, that is certainly not the case at Intuit.

Is this a JOKE?  Inuit now has Locked me out of the software?!  I can not reinstall this software???

 

I purchased this software, I did not buy a subscription.

There are a few reasons why you're unable to open your file. It may be the data is damaged, or the connection to the file is lost. 

 

If it didn't make any difference, I suggest reaching out to our customer care support so a live agent can take a better look at this. They have more tools to investigate this issue.

We are having the same problem! We use QuickBooks POS Desktop v12.0 and since early July 2021 we are not able to reverse cash receipts. It is outrages that Intuit has removed a built-in service from a product that we have paid for (to include that service) and now has discontinued the version and is asking us to pay for a new upgrade!

This is like going to buy a brand new suit at a store, but at night the salesperson comes to my wardrobe, removes a sleeve from my suit jacket and when I complain, I am told to purchase a new suit!

Oh, a suit is not a software?! What is the difference if Microsoft removed the delete option from its MS Word 2013 and asked the users to upgrade to MS 2019!!!!

Why don't you just discontinue the service and leave it just like it is. 

I want the reverse receipt option back! Keep the software discontinued if you want - if I want to buy a new product from you, is my choice not yours!

I am having the same issue.. I DO NOT USE INTUIT Credit charging services but BLOCKING my ability to REVERSE ANY order at all because of Credit card charges. The order i am trying to reverse in 18 are CHECK payments.  

 

NOw INtuit literally holds your business HOSTAGE unless you pay the 5k to upgrade.  Yes 5K to release you to be able to do business.

 

This is BS that i was not told when i PAID 5k to get in to this piece of SHIZ software that when it Sunsets my ability's to USE IT WOULD BREAK unless i pay another 5k  This is actionable in court.

We just hit this as well.

 

We do not use nor have we ever used Credit or Debit cards with POS, yet we're getting this error - it feels like extortion to upgrade to be quite frank. We are using v18, and are now faced with an inability to simply reverse receipts. This is a show-stopping bug, and it shouldn't be treated as some sort of crowd-sourced feedback request (and I am referring to the "if we get enough people complaining, then we'll do something about it" approach).

 

The notice said nothing about this happening - it only referred to the disablement of online connected services, which we are not using.

 

Now what? We are not about to spend thousands of dollars on a new version.

This is absolutely atrocious behavior by Intuit and it needs to be remedied ASAP.

 

We just upgraded to v18 at the end of 2019 and paid over $10k for it. As far as we know, Intuit was still selling v18 last year. It's completely baffling to disable a critical function of an expensive software just 1 year after you stop selling it just to force people to pay again to upgrade.

 

Intuit needs to reverse whatever they did and if they can't do that in a timely manner, they need to offer free upgrades to all customers affected by this. In fact, they should compensate small business owners for any IT costs related to the upgrade.
