Good Morning!
From my understanding QuickBooks Pro 2020 Desktop will be ending support in May 2023.
My client has QuickBooks Pro 2020 Desktop (paid for it once, not a subscription product) and wants to know if he will be forced to switch to QuickBooks Online or can continue using the QuickBooks Pro 2020 Desktop.
He has 3 users, one with limited feature access. BUT he does use QuickBooks for Merchant Services (credit cards and echecks).
Will he not be able to use his Desktop Product and Merchant Services after May 2023?
Thank you,
Lauren
When QuickBooks sunsets, everything will keep working except connected features like bank feeds and the merchant service.
One solution is to use a different merchant service that's not integrated with QuickBooks. Or, if the client must use the merchant service, then he'll need to upgrade.
Good Evening,
From my understanding QuickBooks Pro 2020 Desktop will be ending support in May 2023.
I have QuickBooks Pro 2020 Desktop (paid for it once, not a subscription product) and wants to know if I will be forced to switch to QuickBooks Online or can continue using the QuickBooks Pro 2020 Desktop.
I do not use any merchant services that I am aware of, as I do not accept credit/debit payments.
Thank you

I can share some clarifications to help you choose which product version to use, DirginWater.
QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2020 will continue to work and we won't force you to switch to QuickBooks Online (QBO). With the discontinuation, you won't be able to subscribe to live technical support and other Intuit services. I'm adding this article for additional information about this: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.
If you want to receive any security updates, I suggest upgrading QBDT to the latest version. That way, you'll be able to continue and enjoy the latest features and functions. Please browse this article for the detailed steps: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop.
On the other hand, you can move the company file to the Online version anytime. QBO offers features such as automatic bank account updates, the ability to access your books anywhere you have internet access, and more. For the full list of subscription features, check out the QuickBooks Online pricing page.
Whenever you're ready, check out the Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online link for complete instructions and detailed steps about exporting data.
Thanks for allowing me to help you today. I'm always right here if you ever need me again. Have a great day ahead!
You can still use it after May 2023 but you can't import bank statements data in *.qbo files any longer. You need to register it manually or use a 3rd party tool to import csv/xls files.
We are in the same boat and it appears we cannot import csv/excel files. What is an example of 3rd party software that is available to import this data into QBDT 2020 Pro?
Thank you for joining the conversation, JThom6.
Using third-party software requires a supported version of QuickBooks. However, if you really want to try one as suggested by Fiat Lux - ASIA, I can guide you through finding an app. However, I can't guarantee that it will work.
We are also unable to suggest what suits your business needs since many developers create apps for QuickBooks, and their products have different features.

@JessT RE: Using third-party software requires a supported version of QuickBooks.
It doesn't. Did you just make that up?
@JThom6 RE: What is an example of 3rd party software that is available to import this data into QBDT 2020 Pro?
To import CSV/Excel files, use our BRC IIF Transaction Creator
To import OFX/QFX or QBO files, use our OFX/QFX/QBO to IIF Converter
Hello,
I am an IT support engineer and last night one of my customers emailed me in a panic telling me that they have been advised that QBDT 2020 Pro is to be killed off at the end of this month (and we have a bank holiday at the end to make matters worse) and that all data will be lost and the only way to save it, is to export it to CSV files etc.
I have read your reply from last year but would like to clarify by asking some questions.
I accept that the QBDT 2020 Pro will be retired but is there an upgrade path either desktop or online.
I see that there is a QBDT 2024 Pro version. Can they upgrade to that?
I have read an article that suggest that you cannot but you can to QBDT 2024 Pro Plus which is subscription based. Is this correct. (Another example of companies milking their customers in my opinion)
If there is no upgrade path is it true that that all data will be lost as the 2020 version will not function after May 31st? Under UK law companies are required to keep t heir accounts data for at least 6 years.
At the end of the day the customer prefers not to move to an online version so please advise alternatives
Thank you
Steve
You are using QB Desktop 2020 UK version with a non subscription, correct? You will be fine.
Let’s address your questions regarding QuickBooks Desktop 2020 Pro, Steve.
To begin with, please be informed that since June 2023, QuickBooks Desktop has been discontinued in the UK, but some former subscribers are still able to use the software. Starting in May, access will no longer be possible for subscribers using QBDT 2016 and above.
If your customer doesn’t upgrade by May 31, 2024, they won’t have access to live technical support or other integrated services (like payroll and online bank feeds) for QBDT 2020 Pro. However, they will still have their data and can access their existing company files without the latest security patches and updates.
With this, we strongly encourage all users to migrate to another software solution before this date.
Moreover, they can upgrade to the QBDT 2024 Pro version, which is subscription-based. It offers more features and services compared to the standalone Pro version.
Additionally, you can check out this article to learn the reasoning behind the discontinuation of QuickBooks Desktop in the UK: QuickBooks Desktop discontinuation support.
Let me know if you need further assistance with your QuickBooks Desktop Subscription. Keep safe.
