Quickbooks will no longer work on my laptop once I updated to Sonoma 14 / Apple. Does anyone have any idea what I should to to get all my records back etc... Upgrade to 2023 Quickbooks? Reinstall my 2020 system?
Make sure to update your OS to Sonoma 14.1
I understand the importance of keeping all of our records, @fognomad.
Let me share some information as to why you're currently unable to access QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) Mac 2020 and help you get back your data.
Sonoma is the newest yearly macOS version. Updating your operating system will bring some compatibility issue on your QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2020 edition. With this, will no longer release new patches since this is already an outdated version of QuickBooks.
To keep your business up and running, we highly suggest to stay with your current macOS. If you prefer to have macOS Sonoma, we recommend getting the supported version which is QuickBooks Desktop for Mac 2023 or 2024.
If you ever consider purchasing the supported version, visit this website: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/desktop/enterprise/contact/
Alternatively, if you can use the lower versions for QBDT macOS, not the Sonoma version, we could access that to get your records back.

I just updated my QB desktop for my Mac today and now I am unable to do anything I have to restart my computer in order to close out QB. So are you saying that our desktop version will no longer work?
I understand that this is an essential aspect of your business, Lindsey.
As my colleague @Erika Kaurine mentioned, the Sonoma operating system launch brings some compatibility issues with QuickBooks for Mac.
Please know that you can only upgrade or install QB on a Mac machine and not on the Sonoma OS release due to your discontinuation of the QB Mac application.
Alternatively, you may use the lower versions for QBDT macOS to get your business back up and running again.
In case you are interested in acquiring the supported version, please visit this website: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/desktop/enterprise/contact/

I also have QB for Mac 2020 (version 19.1.16.1140 R17.3) and am waiting to download the latest Apple Sonoma 14.1.1 update on my AMcBook Air laptop. Dear @fognomad, should I hold off for now until we have official confirmation from Intuit that it is compatible?
Thanks, Daniel
@DTMacTeam_Ben was able to confirm in the past that Mac2020 works with VenturaOS
I'm currently running QuickBooks 19.1.16.1140 R17.3 with MacOS Ventura 15.3.2.
Just waiting to find out if QB for Mac2020 will continue working with the next MacOS Sonoma.
Thanks again, Daniel
QB Desktop 2020 is outdated and Intuit won't publish any official confirmation. You can run QB Desktop 2020 on Sonoma 14.1 at this time. But you should understand that when Apple releases a newer update (e.g. 14.2), you may encounter other issues and Intuit will not bother about them. If that happens, you may have several options to consider.
Dear @4Gal, I updated to Sonoma 14.1.1 and QB2020 for Mac seems to be functioning fine. However, after saving the backup yesterday when I tried open the file today it says “it could not be opened because it is “”Read Only.”” Please copy the file to the Documents directory and open from there.” How do I do that? Please I need help ASAP, I lost months of all my reconciliation I did last night.
Secure your QB backup file and QB working file in another folder. Then reinstall your QB Desktop program. Did you encounter the same error message?
Dear @4Gal, thank you for this quick reply. How do I do that exactly? I wish I could speak with someone on the phone
Dear @4Gal, I was able to reach someone in customer service and figured out how to open the program from my backup file. However, I'm now having MAJOR issues with reconciling my accounts. The info that I'm inputting into the account is not showing up in the reconciliation area. I even tried Rebuilding The Data many many times and I still continue having a Detected Errors message when I Verify Data. What are my options now? @ShyMae, @Fiat Lux - ASIA, @Erika_K. Have you @fognomad and/or @LindseyAnneS had any luck getting your MAC2020 working properly with the Sonoma OS? Thanks everyone for your help.
Hi DanLA.
I understand that you're encountering errors with your reconciliation and have already taken some initial steps to address them. However, please note that your version of QuickBooks is no longer be supported, which could result in certain features becoming dysfunctional due to updates in the computer's operating system.
You may want to consider purchasing the latest version of QuickBooks for Mac to ensure that you have access to the most up-to-date features, compatibility with the latest operating systems, and ongoing support from our phone and chat agents. Upgrading to the latest version can help you avoid potential issues related to outdated software and ensure a smoother experience with your accounting and financial management tasks. Just contact the phone number of our Sales team above.
Let me know if you have other concerns in mind. Take care and have a good one!
I'm not sure if your company file is corrupt or there is a new technical issue when running QBD 2020 on Sonoma 14.1. Contact me in private and we can help isolate the problem.
sorry I'm late in replying. QB and thanksgiving took all my time. I would not update if you are using QB2020. It may work for others but not for me. I would take no chances. They are saying over $600 for QB that will work on Sonoma...I wish I hadn't updated... I am a very small business. They screwed me over.
Went to Sonoma 14.1 without thinking anything about QB. Bad decision. Do not upgrade.
I updated to 14.1 and QB2020 would not work on my laptop period!!!!! All my 2023 records are stuck somewhere on my laptop and cannot be reached.
daMon
but my QB202 quit working with Sonoma 14.1. Do I have any options?
I'm a small business and paying $600 for QB2024 is stupid in my mind because QuickBooks has no - zero - customer service. I'm frustrated and most of what my QB2020 was supposed to do it didn't. I've lost 10 months of my records for 2023 and there was no warning. What am I supposed to do. QuickBooks won't say anything but give me more money. Frustrated!
Contact me in private and we can share some options to consider including getting cashback if you buy QBD 2024.
When I open my Quickbooks Desktop Mac running 19.1.13.1070, It will not allow me to upgrade to the R17.3 (19.1.16.1140) even though it prompts me to do so. I would like to upgrade, but QB just quits on it's own and creates a crash email. This crash email never resolves and I can never send it. I am running Sonoma 14.1.2. I do not want to loose my Quickbooks trying to upggrade. Is there a proper procedure for this upgrade? Or are we all alone? Good luck to all of us.
Try to reinstall your QBD program to make sure.
Where would I install QB Desktop for Mac 2020 from? I originally installed it from the internet. Is it still available on the internet?
